To do it right, slowly reduce fresh pomegranate juice down into a syrup in a saucepan with orange zest. Bypass the white sugar. Utilize the native sugars of the fruit itself for the most compelling result.
I would argue that, while surely delicious, what you’re suggesting isn’t the same thing as what Jason made here. Reduced syrup is different than sweetened juice. And I suspect that sweetened juice is brighter and has a different impact on the cocktail. As I say…reduced pomegranate syrup can’t be anything but delicious. But I’d bet it makes a different Jack Rose than the one in this video.

Lol that's called a pomegranate juice concentrate. Grenadine is a syrup. White sugar is not going to kill you.
