  • This is a raw and honest review between our experience between Iridium Go and Inreach service while cruising and sailing. We are giving our honest review of the different Satellite service as we are on our Ocean Crossing From Cabos San Lucas, Mexico To Hawaii on our 1988 Catalina 34.

I use Inreach and I like it. Up to 25 people are on my message list and they can see where I am at all times. That's an important feature for me which is not available on the Iridium Go. Yes it is cheaper to buy and use and you have the SOS feature as well. Cheers, Richard

For the Salty Dog Rally to the Caribbean last month, we lost Starlink just prior to departure. The Iridium Go Exec was very slow and quite expensive the data used accessing email and Predict Wind gribs. The InReach was our daily texting back and forth with family. For the yearly price, the InReach will always be a back-up

Good to see a dispatch again. Found you on the C34 forum when you bought the boat as then named Black Dragon.

That's awesome! I love that boat and it's a lot more capable then the armchair's sailors would think!

Inreach is essential. Starlink seems promising. But always carry and irdidium satellite device

Not sure what your missing but Starlink is already being used by cruisers. Not "next year"...Today.

Right but starlink doesn’t cover whole world . Always keep an inreach on safety plan so you can call for help if needed

At the time that video was shot. I believe Starlink was just in beta testing and had very limited coverage.

crossed the Atlantic in may, and Starlink proved to be quite unreliable. Apart from that Elon shut down the RV plan on oceans and open water which most cruisers were using. So no more Starlink for me.

That’s a bummer. I know a lot of people were excited about the service, I assume it didn’t make financial sense covering that major space with minimal users. I guess we still will have to wait a bit long to get affordable high speed internet at sea.
