I got an electric ⚡ one decades ago to use at work, but it blew a fuse. All my coworkers were pissed cuz no one could even use the microwave for a week. Never tried one again, but I rarely drink tea now and I just use the microwave.

It's a beautiful place. I'd like to make a suggestion for the laundry room. Remove the existing shelf/table to the right of the w/d. Put in a new table/cabinet to the right of w/d filling the space left to right and the same depth as w/d. You could do a hanging bar or shelves over it. To get a longer table for sorting/folding, have a hinged, fold down table attached to the wall to the right of the w/d that will fold down in front of the w/d. It will fold up leaving you access to the w/d when needed but give you a much better folding/sorting area.

I too have a 30 year old whole house vaccuum that we installed when we built our home. It has only been serviced a couple of times! I would never go back to a regular vacuum. The vacuum's powerful motor resides in our garage, so all the dust & debris leaves the house. You should definitely check out having your motor serviced. It is more powerful than other vaccuums when working correctly. I don't recommend a separate hose for up and downstairs however, to keep your hose from being damaged in transit, I do recommend buying a protective fabric sleeve for it. The other item you may need to get is a new power head. It contains additional power and a beater for carpet. Can't imagine you would be spending $1000 for the servicing and two items. When working property, house vacuums are amazing. I have had up to 3 animals at a time and it works great for pet hair! Good luck!

I have central vac and I’m in a one level 2,000 sq ft home built in 1965 with all original hardwood floors and some area rugs. The previous owners installed it in the 90’s, and it still works great. I found when the canister fills up the suction is less. But it’s all original parts. The hose is cumbersome. I still use it about once a month for thorough (move the furniture, remove the cushions kinda stuff) cleaning. I have a Roomba and a Dyson for in between, easier use cleaning. Love my Roomba! Especially when you’re prepping to entertain. Set it loose and let it do its thing while you prep food, drinks, set the table, etc. If l ever moved, central vac would NOT be my choice to have.

My house came with Central Vac. The house was built in 1974. I bought the house in 2001 and the only time it had been turned on since was during the home inspection. The prior owners also did not leave me with any of the hoses or attachments and when I looked into it the cost to get all the hoses and attachments was about $300. So instead I just have vacuums on each floor. I have the Roomba as well and I just move it to the different floors during the day while I am out of the house it is the best for keeping debris off of the floor but you still do need to vacuum baseboards and under certain furniture.

And a separate shop vac for the car and really dirty jobs. Your place is so beautiful. I thought you had said you bought a condo, so I was expecting something much smaller. I love my central vac! We put one in our 2 story home during construction 19 years ago. It has a lot of power similar to a shop vac. We keep the hose under our bed or in a closet. I don't find it difficult to carry the hose up or downstairs at all. We do have an additional hose in our basement just for convenience. The vacuum head is very lightweight and so easy to push. Now you can get the kind where the hose retracts back into the wall, which is great. Your new home is beautiful, Angie!

We have an Oreck (40th anniversary edition) that we got from my MIL when she got a new one. That makes mine something like 18 years old and it still works great! Nina (our tabby girl) sheds like a fiend and this thing sucks it all up. The fan housing broke on it last year (not bad for 17 years old at the time). I found the replacement on Amazon, did a 20 minute “surgery” to put the new one in (all by myself!) and it was as good as new! It’s lightweight enough to carry around, small enough to fit in a closet and does the job.
Get yourself a good vacuum that you like. I can’t imagine that the central vac will easy to service when stuff happens. With a regular vac, you can put it in the car and take it to an authorized service center.
Love those Sofft booties! I’m a huge fan of Sofft shoes.

I have a roomba and a lab cross. And my house is 3 stories. It fills up before it can finish the job on our main floor, which is about the same size of Angie’s. It now resides in the basement that we hardly use. Works well there to pick up dust.
I also have an upright Dyson. While it’s great, it fills up quickly. Weekly deep clean of just my main floor fills 3 times, even with regular light sweeps during the week.
I have a separate carpet vacuum for upstairs that works specifically for dog hair. It’s also great, but also fills up quickly. I can do the main bedroom & hallway before needing to empty it.
We just repaired our central vac (electric component in the handle less than $100), and it’s convenient because I don’t have to stop to empty my canister.
Anyway, the point of all my rambling is, dog hair.
If emptying the canister multiple times while vacuuming doesn’t bother you, then a good upright vacuum makes the most sense. Also great for quick cleanup, where you don’t have to drag the whole hose out.
On the other hand, if you prefer uninterrupted vacuuming, the central vacuum is worth it. Good suction. Good attachments. Empty canister less frequently. Remember to get bin liners for easier canister cleaning.

I purchased a gadget on Amazon that allows you to clamp the trigger on and off without actively holding it (not made by Dyson and most definitely not warranty friendly) it has made my vacuuming life so much easier. I had a NuTone central vac in my previous home and the suction was still great after 30 years. You may want to check for clogged filters. If you can plug the hose directly into the motor unit, test the suction there to make sure it’s a mechanical issue and not a problem with the piping in the walls. My new-to-me older home has remnants of central vac including deteriorating flexible hose instead of rigid plastic pipe in the walls. I was never keen on my old central vac and don’t intend to refurbish this system. I’m not a fan due to the unwieldy 30’ hose. Coiling and storing that thing was a drag and made me put off cleaning. I bought a (now discontinued) Shark plug in stick vac that was great for my former 500+ sq ft tile floor (two beater rolls, one soft and one stiff for carpet), light weight, easy to store, empty, etc., so I cleaned regularly. I also have a great lightweight basic Miele canister that’s easy to tote and the attachments are enough for the periodic crevices, corners, and fabric cleaning. It’s quiet and just purrs. A high power lithium Black and Decker hand vac sits in the laundry for quick crumbs. My Roborock S5 Max is a delight on my large areas of wood flooring (no rugs) and the damp mop feature is better than I anticipated. I get the sense that the robotic vacs are not great with rugs. Lastly, I have an old Hoover Windtunnel for basement carpet - loud and beastly but great for broadloom. I don’t think one vac will ever be the answer. Enjoy your lovely new home!

Congratulations on this new phase of your life! 💕 Your new home is gorgeous, bright, and feels lighter/uplifted. Plus that view! Congratulations again, and thanks for taking us along on your journey. 💕 Also, if you decide against the central vac, I have a super sheddie, 90lb dog and LOVE my Dyson 8. I got it a few months ago during their sale.

@@AngieHotandFlashy I gave other, more cost-effective brands an honest try, but nothing compared. You also want to make sure you get the 8 model that also comes with the velvet roller head since you have hard floors. It actually picks up the fine dust that a regular brush doesn’t.

Our home was plumbed for central vac when it was built, but the builder did not provide the canister for it. We never felt the need for it, as we have a good ol’ fashioned regular vacuum that does the job. 😝

Central vac! Use it!! Get it serviced, if it's not sucking, it may be clogged. Get a new sweeper that runs on the floor. I feel you! I had one in my last house, kept my vac but once I got it all cleaned out and a new sweeper I loved it! My new house doesn't have one and I miss it...good luck!!

Hi Angie. My home has a central vac and I NEVER use it. I have a wonderful vacuum. It's a Meile. I've had for years and I love it. I would like to get a standing vacuum too. The point is, in my opinion, I never ever ever use the central vacuum.
Love your new place! I wish your new home to be full of Love & laughter and wine!
