Ex-JW here. Very interesting and odd to me to listen to someone who is still studying Russell's writings. 1914 was supposed to be Armageddon and the restoration of all things according to him. Anyway, in my journey out of the Jw's, aside from the above false prophecy, his realtionship with Rose Ball and well known marital issues, cemented the fact that he was not the Christian he professed to be. It's amazing the damage that Russell as well as J.F. Rutherford have done to so many. Rose Ball first encountered Russell’s movement in 1884 and later worked at the Bible House in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Russell resided. She lived with Russell and his wife, Maria, as their supposed foster daughter from 1889 to 1897. By 1894, Russell had developed an intimate relationship with Rose Ball, whom he referred to as “my little wife.” This relationship was reportedly known to Maria Russell, who felt distressed about it. The exact nature of their relationship is unclear, but it appears to have been romantic and possibly inappropriate, given Russell’s marital status. In 1897, Maria Russell filed for divorce and separation from Charles Taze Russell, citing his infidelity with Rose Ball as a major reason. The divorce proceedings were highly publicized, and Russell’s reputation suffered as a result.
@BibleStudentsOnline It will be interesting to see what you come up with. I defended Russell more than once when I was a JW, so I have looked at a lot of info from JW/Bible Student apologists, and not just from JW literature.
I'm really enjoying your channel, thank you. It's really interesting to learn about the Bible Students, be interesting to know what similarities and differences there are to JWs. And i really enjoyed the JW History channel, and will get there book once available. 😊
Very nice! I was a JW for almost 30 years. Faded, Resigned eventually when cornered by the Elders. I Found your story intriguing! I too backed away from possible appointments. I just wanted to be a good brother to everyone at the KH and out in service. I was just that. Never reproved or DF'd. I was a good $ contributing brother. Helped out the CO whenever they needed something. Whatever I could support without actually being appointed to anything, I did. Deep down I thought servant appointments were flawed. I had witnessed too many cowboy-ish Elders and Servants. Wasn't for me.
Agreed, I was one of those who just helped out whenever needed, that was just my nature. I was reaching out for anything, just doing my job as a Christian. If you need my help with something, just ask, and I'll be there. Can't always say it was reciprocated by others when I needed help, but you know, we're all flawed in some way.
What exactly does the Bible students believe? Can you explain the basic to me? I live in NJ and want to find a local congregation of Bible students im a DF JW too
Greetings @177SSR90s. Let's see if I can give you the digest version of "what we believe." Before I do that, you could visit our channel and watch a few of our VERY short videos that tell you about us. Who are the Bible Students? - ruclips.net/video/EkgtM01ikOU/видео.html How are Bible Students organized and other questions - ruclips.net/video/FIGoAIyn9HA/видео.html What's the difference between Bible Students and Jehovah's Witnesses? - ruclips.net/video/YhhL7OtN59w/видео.html So here's a quick "We Believe": We accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, and recognize that he died not only for Christians, but for the whole world (1 Timothy 2:5,6; 4:10; John 3:16; 1 John 2:2). The Bible testimony is that Jesus died a "ransom for all" mankind, and that this salvation is for all those willing to receive Christ when that opportunity is given them (1 Timothy 2:4-6; Romans 10:11,12; Acts 3:22-23). Accepting the Bible as the inspired Word of God, we therefore accept the scriptural testimony to the effect that there are two opportunities of salvation indicated there: salvation for all, and a special salvation, the first resurrection, for believers of the present time (1 Tim. 4:10; Rev. 20:6). We understand that the present time is the time for the selection of the Church, which is the Body of Christ (Romans 8:14-17). And that the future time of blessing the world of mankind with an earthly kingdom, and the restitution of all things, will soon be upon us (Acts 15:15-17; Isaiah 65:21-25; Acts 3:19-21). We accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God and study it in its entirety, seeking the harmony of the complete Scriptural testimony (2 Timothy 3:16,17). We believe that a topical study of the Bible is the most beneficial means of understanding God’s Word, and use a variety of study aids as helps to that end, in our weekly study meetings. Realizing that the Christian’s development is not complete without a sincere reverence for God and acknowledgment of his care over us, we also hold testimony meetings which focus is more of a devotional kind, with opportunity provided for sharing personal experiences of God’s providential care in our daily lives. We encourage all who seek to serve God in the present time to a personal consecration of their all to God, accepting the trials and sufferings that come to them daily as not worthy of comparison with the joys and glories to come. (Romans 12:1,2; 8:17-19 & 22-23; 2 Timothy 2:11,12) Now there are individual Bible Students in New Jersey that I can get you in touch with if you are interested. Just let me know. I can be reached at biblestudents@kingdomherald.com. Thank care!
