I rode a horse and he tried to canter which i had never done before, i panicked and ended up falling off onto my stomach, this video really helped me to understand how to position myself and what rhythm i must go at, thanks!
Recently my horse took off with me and cantered all around the arena (I couldn’t stop her) and I had never cantered before. I was bouncy and leaning way too far forward. I really want to try it again correctly though!
Cladeleine Schmaves hah first time I did I tried to post the first few steps and my trainer was like “umm.. what are you doing? Just sit back in the saddle”
@@kittycatdays8719 I just started English after riding Western, I asked if i should canter and she was like no, this is actually the same as Western. 😂

yes very helpful. my problem with canter is that for some reason I always squeeze my thighs and knees and bring them up making me lose balance. I can't keep my legs down and long. and I always lose the stirrup and have trouble getting my feet back in them. (I'm more comfortable doing a canter without stirrups but my coach doesn't want me to do that.) the same thing happens when Im do sitting trot my knees always go up and I bounce and lose balance.
I was bouncing way to much before I found this video, I’ve been trying to sit my canter for months. I took your tips into consideration and finally sat my canter!! Thank you so, so much.
I started cantering two weeks ago. First week it was terrifying, I never wanted to do it again I was sure I was going to fall off. Second week I managed to go around the school several times at canter - started having sparks of enjoyment in between the fear 😅 Thank you for the off horse tips, I’ll definitely be doing those. On reflection I was moving with the motion but leaning back too much. So excited to carry on 🏇 Wonderful video
first time i did the canter I fell and i never wanted to do it again too, but yesterday I did the canter again and it was very easy, tbh canter is easier than a "Up down" trot.
My trainer was never capable of telling me what am I doing wrong and why. I had to figure it out by myself and when I realised I’m leaned back I didn’t know how to solve it until I came across you. Thanks a lot!
I like that you tell what you can do to fix the problems outside the riding lesson. My riding teacher tells me what I’m doing wrong but not what I could do to fix it
I had my first canter yesterday and it was amazing, I lost control during the transition but got it back during the canter. I did feel like my but was off of the horse a lot of the time so thank you for this video I'll apply this to my next lesson ☺️
Very useful video. I'm still a beginner in horse back riding. I started following your channel recently and I learn a lot from you. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
This is a great video so clear. I've been working on canter for about 4 weeks and this will help alot. I'm abit stiff and get a bit scared so my hands come up. Will breathe, elongated my legs and follow tips on your video. Thank you xxx
This video is really helpful because my instructor is having me start canter next week and I don’t know the right positions so thanks for helping with this!!
After watching this I realized that when I first started cantering I leaned back too much and my legs were going everywhere, but this video really helped me and I improved without even realizing it over time.
Today I cantered for the second time ever and I fell off the horse. I was too tense which caused me to lose my strength, my body got tired and I just flew. But I love the feeling of being in canter and I can't wait for my next class. Thank you for this video as it shows perfectly how the tension in my body led me to bouncing too much, getting tired and in the end losing my balance.
I tried cantering for the first time yesterday and I lost control completely, my feet fell out of the stirrups, my bum was out of the saddle, my hands were too high, I completely lost confidence to do it again. How do you still remain confident to canter again?
@@brookebarrett3306 I had a good experience as well. It keeps me going. Some three weeks ago I fell off again and it was pretty bad as I injured my hip. But still I didn't lose my motivation. The only thing bothering me at the moment are younger girls laughing while I'm learning. Everyone is cantering without issues, just me still gripping to the saddle and being in panic mode. It's a bit frustrating to be honest.
Very useful, I've been doing the canter at lessons but for a while, I've always been bad for leaning back which really does no favours to your seat... Now I'm more settled in the upright position and also keeping my hands lower - seeing the difference is really helpful. Will definetly be trying out those exercises to help with movement and build up strength.
I’m so happy to find others who are mainly working on the trot, I always feel dumb when I’m with girls who can canter, jump, etc! This helped so much! Thank u!
I have two problems with canter🤔 1. I don't know how to start canter from the right leg(for the horse) 2. I sometimes lose my stirrups I had those problems at the last stable I went to ride and it honestly was a terrible place for both learners and the horses couldn't go into paddocks and had to be in stalls all day unless they went to one of the "classes" and then there they wouldn't behave well ☹️ The trainers weren't very good either, so I'm searching for a new stable but also trying to understand my own mistakes. Really grateful I found this channel♥️
I know you usually do short videos but Could you post videos of any lessons you ride in or teach or any clinics you attend? It’s a great way to learn when watching others in lessons and hearing the instructor as well as seeing correct and incorrect during a lesson when s student is learning.

Hi
Great video thanks
I still grip with my knees though whatever I try to do to stop this and have a mental block when I get to canter and feel nervous
Trying to relax but I still get tense
I will try your suggestions again
Thanks 🐴
Thank you so much. Really great video. Excellent tips.
Cheers
this was very helpful, thank you! 💖
This was an amazing video with lots of useful information. Thanks!
Your video helped me so much on what to watch for in my riding. Ive spent 90% of my riding in a trot or walk because i never had the confidence to go faster. But thanks to this video and your explinations I feel far more confident to try again! 💖🐴
That’s so awesome! 💕 I’m so glad to hear you are stretching your comfort zone and finding enjoyment in the canter
@@JSHorsemanship Its so much more comfortable than the Trot but I'm also a Plus size rider so its hard to work when the horses you ride are srabs no bigger than 14.1hh
thank you so much for this video. I'm always so bouncy in a canter but can trot just perfectly, it's really annoying. Due to surgeries, I've had on my tail bone I can't feel when I bounce as much and I'm trying to make my lesson horse more comfortable, any advice? I'm thinking I need to be doing 2 points.
I absolutely love your videos. Thank you for sharing
