@beauwalker9820 Yep! You can pretty much follow along with most of it if you've got the sourcebook -- it's fun seeing _where_ and how _far_ the group went off the rails!
The reason the mustard line triggered a memory of the old Disney _Alice in Wonderland_ is because Chuckles' player was channeling Ed Wynn's Mad Hatter for the voice. It works _disturbingly well,_ doesn't it?
9:20 Yes and no. Turns out that Chuckles's first appearance was him being accidentally killed as a nameless NPC, and the scene at 7:03 was his first *named* appearance. He became so damn popular after haunting the cast as a ghost in that campaign that the Avantris Crew brought him back as a player character in their future stories.

These shorts are moments from a bunch of different campaigns in no particular order. Mostly they're from the Root campaign (with people playing the animals), their Witchlight campaign (which takes place in a circus in the feywild and is just pure chaos), their Spelljammer campaign (the space stuff) and an absolutely unhinged one session Christmas special that included several characters from different campaigns The clown started off as a ghost NPC (voiced by one of the players) in the Witchlight campaign, but was popular enough that the player also played him in the space campaign and the christmas special.
So there's a general rule with Avantris sessions. The chat can donate to buy the party rerolls but they come at a cost of being cursed ingame. At the beginning of Witchlight these were on a table where you would roll and then look up your curse, but because Mace is known for his laughing fits this curse was specifically crafted for him. Additionally, depending on how many rerolls you choose to use, players can be affected by more than one curse at a time, which is what was happening to Morning Frost. First he was afflicted with constantly being on the verge of sneezing, without ever actually sneezing, then he was turned into a noir detective and had to roll play as that until the curse was lifted. One of the funniest recurring bits of the campaign was Frost being afflicted with his legs being fused together but only mentally, which required other members of the party to save him from drowning in a swamp, getting unstuck from trees, and generally needing to be dragged around.
...I'm pitching that general idea to my group's DM, because A: it's _hilarious,_ B: it's absolutely _insane_ to see it in action, and C: he needs more audience engagement on the group's streams anyway.

He's directly quoting the Mad Hatter from the animated Alice in Wonderland. I didn't recognize it until you said, but then it clicked. The Mad Hatter is making tea. March Hare offers mustard for his tea and the Mad Hatter goes "Mustard? Don't let's be silly!"
@@multiverseman4017Yes, that's the scene that was being referenced. Mad Hatter was pouring all types of stuff on the broken clock, pretending it was toast or something until he got to mustard.
Chuckles started as an NPC in _Once Upon a Witchlight,_ a chaotic evil clown who was accidentally killed by Gideon and possessed Mikey’s PC Gricko at one point. Then Mikey reworked Chuckles to be his PC for _Stardust Rhapsody,_ their sci-fi campaign.
They do have multiple campaigns that are animated here, but sometimes they'll crossover characters. Like Chuckles started out as just an NPC Clown that the character Giddeon killed that would pop up now and then to mess with him, but he became a fan favorite and became a full character in another campaign and shows up in their One-Shots lol. As for the animator, the one who animated the ones you watched here was Shoocharu, he's done other animated skits for other channels, and even has animated music videos for bands like Ninja Sex Party, he's super talented and hilarious. They have shorts with other animators as well, some of which are the same moments, just different animators. Also yeah, keep reacting to these lol. Always love watching people experience these shorts.
One of my favorite details is the slaps and hits are from them hitting the table or clapping when they're laughing so the animatiors use that for various visual gags like someone slapping someone else or a character hitting something or getting thrown into something.
OMG you've absolutely gotta check out the shorts that don't get animated too, there are some hidden gems from these brilliant minds. 😂 Kenkus on Thanksgiving has gotta be my favourite.

It was interesting for me personally that you basically had the same reaction to their animations as I did. "I don't really understand all of this chaos, but boy is it hilarious."
To explain the genres thing, during their fey wild campaign, they were regularly affected by “fey curses” which were random affects they had on a table that they rolled for. Secondly they have multiple campaigns so the shorts are from multiple stories, however there are some reoccurring characters like Chuckles and Bitsy. In order to understand the Legends of Avantris deep lore you’d have to watch multiple of their campaigns to understand where each character comes from. A short explanation for chuckles (since he’s practically their mascot) chuckles was originally a throw away improv character for Gideon’s (played by Mace) fey curses where he is haunted by the last person he killed, which in his improv backstory was a clown, this lead to the creation of chuckles, and an inside joke where Gideon just Connor stop accidentally killing clowns. Chuckles was so popular that Mikey (the one who voiced chuckles for the curse and the one who plays Gricko in their fey wild campaign) made Chuckles into his own character for their Spell-jammer campaign “Stardust Rhapsody” which they play-tested before the full campaign with a one-shot called “On a Silver Strand”
Legends of Avarantis does have streams of them playing D&D and it’s in general a really fun experience (They’ve also played Games like BG3, Phasmophobia, and RDR)
6:27 I love the one where Chuckles, (the clown) Captain Brigsy, (zombie, pirate, crocodile man) Torbek (homeless, alcoholic bugbear) and Bitsy (cute yet odd mouse girl) all meet for the first time. They're the most imsane group of characters, and their holiday specials together are hilarious. I actually listened to the entire ones while playing Zelda, and there's so many moments and funny quotes not in the shorts. I recommend people check those out too.
9:25 Chuckles was a character, not really a player in the begining, in their campaign, but Gideon "accidentally" unalived him with a too strong of a punch to the kidney. He started having a bit of a seizure, so they fed him to some pigs they had. It was necessary, corpses aren't any good for business, ticket sales would plummet, and they would have to start charging double for ice. P.s Gideon ends up... "Accidentally" unalices at least six clowns.
context that'll help with a lot of their shorts is for one of their long running campaigns and a fair few of their one shots there's this in game function where for various reasons they may have to roll on a table of fae curses. sometimes the curses stack too like the one where the guy had to act as a noir detective but was also cursed to constantly be on the verge of a sneeze that never comes. absolutely adore this D&D group, they're freaking hysterical and have some extremely talented DM's. 1:59 Alot of the time they get incredibly sidetracked and most probably yes its hard to decipher their motives or rhyme o' reason but if it makes a scene funnier they usually succeed drastically in doing so.
Long story short, Avantris is not only the group name, but it's realm that all their games are loosely tied to. (Up)Root(ed) is based around the board game Root, and likely loosely takes place on another continent populated by humanoid animals as all the characters, the games were Chuckles is a PC is so far the only space setting that's an original Avantris game, Ghost Chuckles is from their magic/fey heavy setting, current one of that is Once Upon a Which Light. They also have a Gothic/Folk Horror series currently titled Edge of Midnight, and they made a 5E supplement from that content titled The Crooked Moon. As for when all of them seem to mix together, the players just bring in a character they want to keep playing, and they do a more or less non cannon one shot for the holiday theme. They have a couple other games, but Which Light is set to pick up again soon, Midnight again this next year, and they just closed up the second run of Root a couple months ago. It seems to me (a still new fan) that they switch out games (and GMs) every couple months or so to help prevent burn out, and let them cook up more ideas.
What you're seeing is mainly animatics from 3 campaigns and a number of one shot specials. Chuckles first originated in Once Upon A Witchlight, a campaign centered around a carnival in the feywild. The main characters are Gideon - a Fire Genasi, Kremy - a Lizardfolk, Frost - a Tabaxi, Gricko - a Goblin, and Torbek - a Bugbear. Chuckles is voiced by the same guy who plays Gricko, and he's gained so much popularity that he now plays Chuckles in 1 other campaign, as well as several one shot specials. The second campaign is Stardust Rhapsody, in which Chuckles is a full on Player Character. The setting is a giant spaceship. The third and final campaign is Uprooted, which features several animal-related characters. They are Bitsy - a mouse, Peggy - a frog, Hazel - a chipmunk, Booker - a raccoon, and Grumley - a pug. The chaotic character of this group is Bitsy, but all of them have some solid shining moments And last but not least, we have the ever expanding treasure trove of holiday special one shots. These feature Chuckles, Bitsy, Torbek, and Briggsy. Briggsy is a lizardfolk from an older campaign, Edge of Midnight. The 4 of them are probably the most capable of derailing sessions in each of their respective campaigns, so simply having the 4 of them in a one shot should easily tell you how these sessions usually go. They are to this day the hardest I've ever laughed in terms of D&D. I highly recommend checking them out if you want to watch a session or two
Say, that are those two purple canisters on Torbek's back? I've never heard them referenced by anyone in the shorts' comments, but at some point they became a pretty consistent design aspect regardless of who is animating him.
Oh believe me, there's *hundreds* of hours of Avantris :'D They run multiple different campaigns at the same time, and sometimes some characters might cross over from the others. Also, the one with the goblin, crocodile, genasi, tiger and bugbear is a feywild campaign, so fey magic is constantly happening to them, it's absolutely insane :'D Also yeah, the full series of sessions are up on their channel, the shorts are kind of "best of" reels. I think they commission the animator, Shoocharu, for the shorts?
Always love the DnD animations, especially since I started my own campaign with some friends! The shenanigans they get up to are *wild*, as to be expected. As DM, it's surprisingly easy to just let them craft their own story - I feel like I'm just along for the ride sometimes, with all the interpersonal drama!
If you love chaos D&D, you should definitely check out Dingo Doodles and her Fools Gold campaign animated series where both players and DM embrace wild chaos in so many ways. If that isn't convincing with the unbridled chaos, the first episode title of 'Karaoke=Death' ...yeah.
Chuckles was actually a side character and wasn't meant to be an actual character, but he was really popular with everyone that they kept bringing him back and made him a character
Please post more. I love these shorts and your inability to handle the chaos is adorable. Lmao. You don't have to break things down to make a good react video. I literally search these types of vids out just because it's fun to rewatch things I think are funny and see how much someone new to them laugh. Definitely subscribed and gonna deep dive your channel. I only found this cause the algorithm was hitting right. Love your nails too. Wish I could paint mine again but at the moment I cannot.
I was lost for words as well by Chuckles the clown, I think everyone has the same feeling. Concerning the mustard; I think it has to do with the Mad Hatter tea party.
7:30 i understand how frustrating this would be to watch trying to pieace the lore togather especialy wiht how these arint in any order and from multipol different campainges, with different characters, the one sad part is that to really get the context youd have to watch the life streams, and thats hours and hours and hours of people sitting at a table voicing characters not every bodies got time for that kind of comit to just learning lore.
while they definitely benefit from actually sitting and watching you can get away with just listening to the majority of their campaigns so I like listening while in the car or doing chores and such. If you have a job that allows you to listen to music/podcasts (or you can at least get away with sneaking an earbud which is what I do) you can also listen to stuff like this while working. it's definitely still a lot to listen to though
oh please keep watching these!! i have watched all of them in the last months and i fucking love them. + dont worry about not talking much, i still enjoyed it and i mean these are like aggressivly confiusing, even with context its really chaotic
Oh no, you laughing as hard as we probably all did to these shorts is reaction enough😂😂 i love seeing others enjoy this crew as much as i did the first time i discovered they existed, no yapping required😂 prob the easiest reaction you'll do haha
There's actually three versions of Chuckles here that are all actually unrelated to each other. Chuckles started as a ghost haunting Gideon for accidently killing him and then became so popular they turned him into a character for a couple one-shot campaigns. My favorite character they have is Bitsy, she's the mouse. Her bits always make me laugh the hardest.
i binge watched all your jojo videos while i was drawing and i just realized you reacted to a bunch of other stuff i like too!! youre so much fun to watch cant wait to binge a bunch of videos again lmao
This is great love the reaction even if its just laughing thats what we do anyways Very minor context these are based around 4 campaings, The Space Adventure- where the clown is one of the main char The Once Upon a Witchlight- the one with the demon tiger guy and goblin (with the clown being a reoccurring side char) The Animal one- with the little mouse, squirrel, and frog The Christmas adventure- which has their best char from each series, the clown, The mouse, The crocodile, and the Big furry guy.
I started watching LoA a few months ago after youtube showed me a bunch of these shorts without context lol. Thanks for reacting to random stuff like this
These are just bloopers, and Chuckles is FREAKING hilarious! The "Mustard" bit was from the Mad Hatter, when they're "fixing" the white rabbit's watch.
To explain a bit about the first clip, they play with something called 'Twists' (donated to them by chat), the 'Twists of Fate' allow them to reroll a bad roll, but the side effect is that AFTER they have to roll for a 'Twist of Dread', which is basically a temporary curse. In the first one Mace (the player for Gideon, a fire Genasi) got the 'if you laugh irl you take 1d6 damage', only made worse by the curses that some of the OTHER players had. Frost (the tiger man, a Tabaxi) had two stacked on him, 'you think you are a noir detective' and 'always on the verge of sneezing', and Kremy (the alligator lizard folk) couldn't stop stubbing his toe. LoA has multiple campaigns. There's Once Upon a Witchlight (set in the Feywilds), this one has Gideon/Kremy/Frost/Gricko/Torbek(who is a bugbear); Uprooted is the one with all the tiny animals (Bitsy(mouse), Booker(raccoon), Peggy(frog), Hazel(chipmunk), Grumley(pug)) Stardust Rhapsody is the one set in space (it has Chuckles the space clown and Leboosh(the squidy looking man, I think that's how you spell his name) Rhett(the big bulky guy) and Dandy(the alien lady), there's a few other campaigns but I don't know much about them. They also have a sort of 'crossover' for their Halloween and Christmas specials, which features Chuckles, Bitsy, Torbek and Briggsy (he's apparently from another campaign called Edge of Midnight). There's technically two different Chuckles. There's Chuckles the ghost clown from Once Upon a Witchlight who is a reoccurring NPC (he's just voiced/played by one of the players) that just haunts the game(Gideon mostly), but then in Stardust Rhapsody there's Chuckles the space clown, who is an actual player character (played/voiced by the same guy from Witchlight). He first appeared in Witchlight tho in that 'last person you killed' clip.
These are all from different campaigns. I'm not sure which is from which. Some are connected. But it's not in order. Oh. Please. Don't worry about not talking. I'm just enjoying you enjoying the shorts. They are great, aren't they? I must have seen em all multiple times. They still make me laugh. Love these guys. Love that you like them as much as I do. Makes me happy when other people enjoy the things I enjoy.
I've seen their videos before. The yt shorts of these clips irl vs animated are very funny too and give a little bit more context. I love that ur watching these Matt!😂😂😂
In this shorts they are mostly 4 or 5 campaigns: A space campaign. The DM is the guy that incarnates a Fire Genasi in others campaigns. It appears Chuckles. A christmas campaign. The DM is the girl that incarnates a Frog in the animal campaign. It appears Chuckles, a bugbear with a can for hat named Torbek, a mouse named Bitsy and a "crocodile zombi?" named Briggsy and a fire genasi named Gideon. A animal campaign. The DM incarnates Chuckles the clown and Gricko the goblin. It appears a frog (the dm in other campaigns), Bitsy, a pugbear, a raccoon (torbek's player) and a "squirrel?". And i think it's the halloween campaign. The DM is the same at christmas campaign. It appears Torbek, the crocodile Duncan (who incarnates Briggsy), the tabaxi Frosty (it incarnates Mitsy), the Fire Genasi Gideon and the goblin Gricko. And I think this is all... There is other campaign but i only know that who incarnates Chuckles incarnates a character named Sarnax or similar.
Chuckles is like, a reoccurring bit, he's been in some one-shots and a full campaign but mostly he's an npc. He started as just a clown that Gideon killed but after becoming crazy popular with the community and becoming one of Mikey's favorite characters he became a reoccurring bit/ callback / reference.
So there’s are from a bunch of different campaigns. There’s a carnival campaign- the origin of the dead clown/the one with the goblin. The space one. The small creatures one with the mouse and frog. And the holiday one-shots featuring each player’s most popular character
During the Witchlight campaign and some of the one shots, the DM would give wild curses to the PC’s. Some of witch where you constantly have to sneeze, and even more ridiculous stuff.
Glad you are enjoying them! Plz react to more! ❤ Chuckles is a fan favorite. The shorts are little bits from their multiple campaigns, nine in all with some one shots. There are a lot of characters. 😅
I would definitely watch the campaigns lol, they're so good. I'd start with Once Upon a Witchlight, as that's their first campaign, and also the first appearance of Chuckles as the ghost haunting Gideon after Gideon killed him. His first appearance was literally the scene when he says "You know I had chlamydia?" in Gideon's head, and from there they came up with all the lore to him just off the cuff, completely improvised throughout the campaign as he continued to haunt Gideon and reincarnated in some of Gideon's friend's bodies.
For context with the first short, it takes place in the Feywild around a circus, so the shenanigans are pretty off the wall.

The chaotic character of this group is Bitsy, but all of them have some solid shining moments
And last but not least, we have the ever expanding treasure trove of holiday special one shots.
These guys are absolutely hilarious and I’m so glad you reacted to them :D hope you continue
Always love the DnD animations, especially since I started my own campaign with some friends! The shenanigans they get up to are *wild*, as to be expected. As DM, it's surprisingly easy to just let them craft their own story - I feel like I'm just along for the ride sometimes, with all the interpersonal drama!
Legends of Avantris is the ultimate chaos table.
I never expected you to react to them! This makes me so happy :D
I have a mighty need for more of this
10/10 would watch again. Its hard to get sick of these shorts!
Omg, I never clicked faster!
Same
Chuckles was actually a side character and wasn't meant to be an actual character, but he was really popular with everyone that they kept bringing him back and made him a character
I love this! I actually relate to both you and coming into Legends of Avantris with no context. I would love to see more of these!
it makes me so happy that more people are discovering the GOATS of avantris, such an amazing group of lads
You definitely should do more of these
Oh nice, my favorite character is Chuckles. He definitely has some dark side to him. 😂
15:07 love torbek ejfjjd
Chuckles the clown was a 'npc' at first but he was fast a fan favourite
@@Ari_C good idea m8
YES! I had no idea you were going to react to these, but I love it 😂
Geneva Convention? More like Geneva _Suggestion!_ 😂 Chuckles and Torbek are my faves! Please watch more haha
more like Geneva Checklist in my opinion 😅
god I love these shorts, they literally make my stomach hurt from laughing so much. you should definitely watch more of them
15:44 Call me crazy, but do you mean Lemongrab from Adventure Time? Cuz that's who I thought of. Or Blendin Blanden from Gravity Falls.
Im BEGGING you to watch the campaign Chuckles was introduced in. Its called Once Upon A Witchlight and its amazing!
I love watching these reactions to see people be confused and laugh alot, this was great!!
Dude, I LOVE this!! PLEASE do more reactions about this!!!
It’s multiple campaigns
We need more of this please!!
oh please keep watching these!! i have watched all of them in the last months and i fucking love them.
Her bits always make me laugh the hardest.
omg, I LOVE Legends of Avantris :0
Out of every [reactioners] I've ever seen you have the best commentaries yet. Keep up the reactions my guy.
i binge watched all your jojo videos while i was drawing and i just realized you reacted to a bunch of other stuff i like too!! youre so much fun to watch cant wait to binge a bunch of videos again lmao
Avantris reaction getting really popular on the market, so please, continue
I would love to see more
The shorts are from different session and adventures, this are just little parts of the +3 hour sessions
This is great love the reaction even if its just laughing thats what we do anyways
Very minor context these are based around 4 campaings,
The Space Adventure- where the clown is one of the main char
The Once Upon a Witchlight- the one with the demon tiger guy and goblin (with the clown being a reoccurring side char)
The Animal one- with the little mouse, squirrel, and frog
The Christmas adventure- which has their best char from each series, the clown, The mouse, The crocodile, and the Big furry guy.
I think the clown was one of the player's characters until he died but they found a way to bring he back as much as possible
Actually, is the opposite, Chuckles started as a bit being the Clown killed by Gideon, but later he became a character in other campaings
@leonardow.s.613 oh cool! I really should watch more of their campaigns instead of just the shorts
It was fun laughing along side you! Please continue! Then maybe finish with a reaction to the campaign proper series?
11:55 when the mad hatter was fixing a clock with cooking ingredients and stuff is what you're probablly remembering
00:30 We Require MORE!!!
Love this, Would love to see more in the future.
I would enjoy seeing you continue the Avantris shorts🤝
5:46 put in slomo to see them holding hands
Hope you continue this since there are still some very good ones
I've seen their videos before. The yt shorts of these clips irl vs animated are very funny too and give a little bit more context. I love that ur watching these Matt!😂😂😂
This is a very funny group of people. I hope you really enjoy their wacky adventures XD
In this shorts they are mostly 4 or 5 campaigns:
A space campaign.
I absolutely break down laughing whenever Torbek howls in laughter, it's such a good laugh
When referring to that line from Torbek, he does sound like Wallace Shawn: INCONCEIVABLE
Please do more, this was a great laugh!
i have seen various reaction channels watch legends of avantris and it never gets old
So there’s are from a bunch of different campaigns. There’s a carnival campaign- the origin of the dead clown/the one with the goblin. The space one. The small creatures one with the mouse and frog. And the holiday one-shots featuring each player’s most popular character
They were doing a Spacejammer D&D campaign. Chuckles is a Space Clown, which were roughly based on the Killer Klowns from Outer Space movie.
Yeess... Please make more of these!
During the Witchlight campaign and some of the one shots, the DM would give wild curses to the PC’s. Some of witch where you constantly have to sneeze, and even more ridiculous stuff.
Need a part 2 for sure!
Oh I am so excited about this! It'd be amazing if you continued to watch these.
Glad you are enjoying them! Plz react to more! ❤
Chuckles is a fan favorite.
One of the few dnd campaigns I've actually watched an entire session of that wasn't a one shot.
