Here's my take on the story: Len and Miku used to be friends, but when Len confessed his feelings to Miku, she didn't know how she felt about it. So then Len cut ties with her, saying that he "didn't want to hurt her anymore" because Miku found it difficult to cope with Len's feelings for her. However, Luka overheard this and got the wrong idea that Len just got mad at Miku and cut ties with her, so Luka took Miku's side and made sure she and Len didn't interact. Rin, on the other hand, took Len's side. This tore the friends apart and a rivalry was started. Meanwhile, Kaito and Meiko had a healthy relationship, and Miku and Len got jealous of them. This caused the others to turn on them as well. In the end, they're all tired of fighting with each other and want things to go back to the way they were, saying "the pieces don't fit anymore" means that their relationships can never be healed T-T This is just my take, I may or may not have gotten it right haha take what you will~
