As a leftist I would hardly call it perfect, but during the 90's Republicans were dealing with an era when America was kind of on top, any enemies were considered nuisances at worst, and while some Conservatives weren't happy with progressing social trends, fighting against it wasn't quite such a central part of the platform, in part because Democrats weren't strongly fighting for it either. I'll also note that there was kind of trend of media for working class conservatives in the 90's. King of the Hill and Roseanne were pretty indicative of this. Catering towards a white working class setting and characters that conservative audiences could relate to while introducing them to social issues that would help them better deal with the changing times; if not to fully embrace them, then at least to tolerate them. Hank Hill is a very traditional person, and he doesn't do great with change, but he's not hateful, and doesn't lash out at people just because they're different. I think the efforts were well intentioned but everything kind of went to hell with 9/11, as Republicans led the charge into a new era of Xenophobia and wartime imperialism. The insanity of the Iraq war meant that it became more difficult to sympathize with the Republicans willingly going along with it, and so media like King of the Hill gradually was replaced with more biting commentary and satire, which in turn exacerbated the Right. The Right wing gradually becomes more defensive, more hostile towards a media environment that is no longer willing to humor their outlook, and so both sides become more insular culturally and both sides begin to look towards more extreme examples of their ideology. Common liberalism is replaced by more active leftism as those on the left become sick of compromise, while on the Right, hateful ideologies are allowed to take hold as a method of returning to the past. The environment of the Right is less interested in trying to understand and tolerate progressives, and more to armor up and provide additional armaments for a culture war. One struggles to imagine what Hank Hill would even make of the modern socio-political landscape. While his culture shock of what's on the Left now would certainly be impressive, the Right has become an entity that looks worse then Dale Gribble on his worst days. In this very episode Hank nearly talked himself of voting for George W. Bush (The Golden son of Texas) simply because of his limp handshake, I honestly cannot see him actually voting for Trump, a New York Blowhard of the highest caliber (who also eats his steak well-done and with Ketchup). I have been watching King of the Hill since day 1 (literally)
Regardless of your opinion on The People's Revolution it was deceitful of Hank to register LuAnne to vote only if she was going to support His party. He shouldve encouraged LuAnne to do her own research and determine whether she truly believes in the message or just the face of the party. But once LuAnne shows a different opinion instead of talking with her, he immediately backtracks saying she shouldn't be allowed to vote. That really speaks volumes about the flawed American ideal of "democracy"
In the rest of the episode this is pretty much explained. When Hank realizes he doesn't want to vote for his party simply becuase of a handshake he realizes he isn't actively voting based on research the same as Luann. It's not the system of voting that's flawed, it's the people. And back when this aired people KNEW how to vote. This generation is just fucking stupid and out to troll themselves. Harambe and Kanye are proof of this. I say raise the voting age to 25.

It does not address the issue and instead gsteguards politics to the older generation which has consistently been voting in their own interests at the expense of the country or at the expense of the future of the country.
