As a Brit, Ardun engines are new to me but it looks like it was put on Earth to go into a '33 3 window, the ultimate hot rod. And if ever a car deserved a killer paint job, this is it!

Ardun produced an OHV cylinder head conversion for the Ford flathead engine. Google it. It's a fascinating story that will lead you to the birth of the Corvette.

Hey Matt! Just my two cents, @5:08 ish.. when you were running the mill, that lever on the left of the spindle is a power feed, not a quill stop. The quill stop is located on the lower right, just figured id let you know in case you engage the power feed on accident and send an endmill into an expensive part next time!

The bronze used for pilot bushings is called oillite and is porous. Before you install it you soak it overnight in engine oil to fill the pours. This provides lubrication. Oillite should be available at McMaster-Car.

Matt and Mike - loving the Ardun build - awesome!
I want to take a moment to thank you for letting us watch you guys live your dreams. I discovered your channel in the early days of the C19 pandemic when life seemed totally chaotic. I couldn’t stand to watch any mainstream media channels - those “continuously updating death counters” became more than I could bear.
I opened RUclips one day and found a couple of guys from Pennsylvania in a kick ass stone garage playing with cars and living their lives seemingly unaffected by what was happening all around the world. It was glorious.
To this day, your intro and outro music calms me and brings me to a place where I feel safe.
Thank you for the impact you had on my life - I am forever changed - you are my IronTrap!

Morning Matt & Mike, you're fortunate that you have a Lathe & Bridgeport, I've been doing this hot rod stuff for many years, I don't have a Lathe or Bridgeport but I do at work. This is why the hot rods in the early days looked so hacked up, instead of maching shop equipment they used anything they had to make parts work.

Looks really cool! I like it. My only comment is that I have never seen a pilot bearing that was a slip fit on both the crank and the transmission shaft. They may be like that on flat heads, but every big truck or Chevy I have worked on, the pilot bearing presses into the crank and slips on the transmission. Not sure if a slip fit on both sides is a bad thing, its just that I have never seen one done that way. Either way, the car looks very cool!

    • @IronTrapGarage
      @IronTrapGarage  3 месяца назад +5

I probably misspoke. I had to tap it into flywheel with a mallet. So it wasn’t a “slip fit” more of a press fit. My terminology sucks sometimes.

    • @eltay3

@@IronTrapGarageto remove the normal fit bushing, you pack the cavity with grease and then use a punch or socket/extension to “hydraulic” the old bushing out. I did more than a few back in the day.

    So fkn awesome!
Exhaust suggestion: dual system, exiting in front of the rear wheels at a 45° angle to the rocker panels. Use 3" pipe for the last foot of the tailpipe so it acts like a megaphone but flatten the pipe itself into an oval shape like the Ford oval so it's about 4" wide a 1.5" high. Slash cut the end parallel with the rocker too.
Looks very race car ish but old skool, sounds awesome and different to every other one you'll see.
My race car here in Australia is done this way and gets alot of cool comments.

Can the top tank of the radiator be made even more concave, or re-engineered altogether? Somehow made even thinner in the middle (underneath) where the radiator support bars hook to it?
I'm totally with you on keeping the rad/grill as low and leaned-back as much as possible. Seems like there's an opportunity to re-engineer the top rad tank a bit to make that happen.

Looks great, Your hard work is coming together very nicely. Can't wait to see you driving it.
On the radiator and the front crossmember. Why not modify both with a recess to give more clearance for belt swaps. You need to modify the radiator tank anyways. Why not make it so it will be easier to work on? Why not cut a chunk out of the bottom of the tank, then get a piece of brass sheet/plate and shape it into a half circle shape to create a tunnel for the pulley.

A great advancement on the 'years in the making' on the Ardun 3 Window, looks F'N GREAT...Yeah Mon!!! Matt, here's another $0.02 for your consideration... when either milling or turning aluminum you can turn up your SFM (surface feet per minute) quite a bit. depending on what your Bridgeport J1 head will provide, 2500+ RPM for ؽ" 2 flute End Mill will mean less chatter, faster material removal rate and better surfaces. BTW - Turn it down for parting off or grooving in Brass/Steel/aluminum = less tool pressure and chatter.

Raising the radiator 1/2 inch won't affect the flow lines of car if you put a straight end from windshield it should be perfect. Also headers dumping down into sidepipes could be a option as Fords run better with a little backpresure . Great job so far love to see it running around the area beings I local too.
