The problem both Nick and his callers are making it that they are linking “Skill” with “Pay” what we need in this country are jobs that pay a “living wage” or at least a wage that means we don’t need income support and food banks, that should apply equally to all skill levels.

And it makes sense that people would change their way of thinking from hope to fear if they are in a higher tax bracket because they "fear" losing more of their money to the government.

I know countless professional people regarded as "clever" and in reality they are not that bright (or even stupid in some situations), except for a very specific skillset that earns them a living... I'm sorry but cleaning well is a high skilled job and they all deserve more pay ( if they aren't self-employed). I can't hack it as a cleaner and I know it. Aside from the mental toughness required and stomach of stone in cleaning behind often ungrateful, nasty ppl, you have to be efficient, fast and creative. I'm a former chef, am now an accountant and newbie software engineer . I *could not* hack it as a cleaner. Full stop.

I do enjoy listening to Nick, but I disagree with him strongly on his stance on the petrol crisis, it was hysteria. Many people were topping up their cars unnecessarily. The fuel levels had not changed from the week before the crisis, people's purchasing habits had. If people continued buying fuel as they always did, we would not have been in that mess. My girlfriend filled her tiny 1.2 litre car up and she barely drives it. She probably hasn't topped it up since then (okay, that part was tongue in cheek).
