- #carproject #barnfind #detailing I have bought myself a new project car, it’s a Volvo 740 to replace the S40 and it’s filthy! This video is going to be its first wash in nearly 8 years.
It has grime and algae growing all over the paintwork and the inside needs a good vacuum out!
Hope you are enjoying the video, stay tuned for more 740 videos and hit that like and subscribe button!

I was sent here from Involvo'd! Wonderful video. I just subscribed and look forward to more videos!
Thank you, the next video will be listing the very long list of things I need to do!!
Congrats on the purchase! I'm sure you will find this classic much more satisfying than the Ford (S40) you are replacing. And probably longer-lasting too!
These cars are very easy to maintain and service (I once replaced the timing belt on the parking lot, alone, in pouring rain - just to give you some perspective. Needless to say, the engine was NOT damaged by the belt's failure - non-interference design!).
But you need good mechanical skills, and - most importantly! - high quality tools.
My motto, when approaching repairs on any of my multiple VOLVOs, is that if I have the desire to do the thing, and the right tools, there's nothing to stop me doing it.
Only the engine and chassis which is ford inspired..i found the opposite to be true...i have an 2008 S40 petrol and it has run better than the old 740 i used to have..it swings and roundabouts.
The wagon looks awesome after a wash.
Yes we are Germany and you are Germany...if not yourhand or not your hardworking your still engineer..you know what I mean?..gooday.
Danke schon!
This car is exactly the same as mine, except that mine has a navy interior, but with the same tweed seats and the original hard plastic mats. One rubbing strip for mine is also in a cardboard box on the back seat. Even the box looks the same. Uncanny!!
Mine hasn’t had any love recently but going to get back to it next weekend!
Subbed. What did you use to lose the grime? Volvo 740 owner here in the USA.
Thanks! I used a powerful pre wash (TFR) to dissolve most of the grime, then a good pressure washer to rinse it off before a contact wash. Still a lot of attention needed to get the shine back but it looked 100 times better than before!
The car is also a ''blackline'' kind of rare but the name says it all (the black line from front to back) nice find man!
Thank you!
😳 Gonna have to call in some favours to get her back up to scratch
It’s a long road ahead!
Looking forward to more updates. I too recently bought a project Volvo.
Nice, I’ll check and the channel and subscribe,
@@db192 very kind of you. Likewise, subscribed!
awesome
Speaks for the quality that it takes so little to make it look really okay again.
Back before they switched to water based paints in early 2000s. Old cars have much tougher paint, shame they didn’t use galvanised steel underneath, this car was so rusted I had to scrap it
what a difference a jetwash can make..looks remarkable...Nice job.!
Especially with how dirty it was! Unfortunately the whole underneath was rotten and rusting away and would have involved a large amount of work to get it back on the road so it was scrapped last year.
@@db192 I am very sorry to hear that as i have been following your work with this car and i know how disheartening it can be when you have to bid them farewell..Money spent on this would probably not make much of a return..i think within the next decade these cars will be extinct to all intents and purposes.
Very nice! I'm a huge 740 fan and have owned a 1990 SE estate since 2003. They are very agreeable cars :)
Thank you, I’ll be giving her the attention she deserves to get her back up to standard.
@@db192 It looks like a pretty decent car already. As long as the underside is sound, you'll have no problems :)
The turn around is quite remarkable on this little gem!
It’s night and day on the difference, it was properly dirty!
Wing or weld? £ 135 plus delivery. Undercoat it before fitting. Click! 🧐 Wax on, wax off.
I think it may be a weld and some filler.
I have an F reg 740 estate like that! Keep those original dealer number plates on, unusual serck lettering, very 80's. Watch the fuel filter, mine blocked up as it hadn't been changed for decades. Great cars. It took 4 of us with 2 mountain bikes and all our luggage in the massive boot for a trip to Scotland last year!
Thanks for the advice, the car will be getting a full service along with any other jobs I find along the way. I already have a long list of maintenance to get it back on the road!
I remember seeing tis on ebay not too long ago. Good luck with the restoration!
Yeah I think I should have gone to see it first but it was 3 hours away. The list of jobs I need to do on it is pretty big!
