- www.deeranddee... An oak savanna is an incredible deer habitat, but sadly, it is now an endangered ecosystem. Thankfully, you can restore this habitat and experience the benefits from the natural forage diversity. Grow 'em Big with Steve Bartylla. Season 6. Episode 8.
I have a semi-intact oak savanna on my property, but it has grown over for nearly 90 years when it was a dairy farm. We are planting bur oaks, but there are still massive white oaks present that we are clearing around. Glad to see others doing this as well. Native grasses are a big part of an oak savanna - don't forget them! Good luck!
Awesome, very helpful. Thanks for having a professional on here to discuss the processes. Excited to finish the series. I'm working on restoring a savanna in Illinois right now!
We should reintroduce Bison into Oak Savannas.
for sure!
I’m creating a Pine Oak Savanna I’m in south east Arkansas it probably was originally more pine but it’s multiple species of oak & aspen
I got into forestry because I love forest ecosystems and trees:
Now me: PUT FIRE BACK INTO THE LANDSCAPE. MECHANICAL THINNINGS. WE NEED NATIVE WILDFLOWERS. MORE LIGHT
Love these videos...just a quivk question, Wouldn't adding megaherbivores such as bison and horses assist in maintaining an oak savanah rather than burning?
