Another option is to use disk management to shrink an existing disk by say 100mb to create a small bit of space at the end of an existing drive, then to format this partition FAT32 and copy file across. This is something I had to do as I didn't have any USB sticks handy.

Thanks, this got me going in the right direction. I had trouble with the renaming of the file. When you download it from ASUS it comes with a re-namer, don't use it. Leave it long. I could never get the shortened file name to work.

It works with NTFS drives. The mistake I did when I got this error last time, and I believe it's the same most people do, is trying to copy the CAP bios file directly from the zip folder to another folder. We need to actually _extract_ the CAP file. Then the bios will read it from any NTFS SSD or HDD drive without problems, which would be safer than using a FAT32 USB drive.
The only thing I would add would be that it might be smart to take the time to do a regular "slow" format of the Flash Drive, I know that sometimes Quick Format can cause errors and with a BIOS update, that is not something I would want to risk
Ok guys! You cannot update bios from older version to newest between years (from 2018 to 2020). You need update it for few steps. From 2018 to 2019 and then to 2020.
This video was produced last year at the time of the recording I was going from 1405 to 1407 and I was not suggesting that you can skip BIOS generations "although I have successful done so for over 20 years". This was simply a video about this specific error message.
I had this problem on my ROG STRIX X-470i gaming ( wifi ) motherboard. No matter which bios I tried to update to I got the same error message ( Not a proper bios ). What worked for me was to turn off fast boot first, then only update bios from the 2000s to the 3000s and then the 4000s. I eventually went from bios version 2008 up to version 4502 which is the latest version, it will allow me to upgrade to windows 11 upon officail release. Thanks for the video.
The problem stemmed from downloading Bios via bundled Armour Crate software. The name of the cap file is not correct for my B550-plus. I downloaded direct from website and it came with rename app. With instructions to rename. Worked perfectly
As a side note, you can always just have a couple gigs shrunk and formatted to fat32 just for these updates. I'm horrible at keeping up with flash drives so this was the best method for me 🤣🤣
For Motherborad ASUS PRIME Z390-A/H10 owners. It might be a great motherboard but it sometimes comes with much BIOS problems for unknown reasons, the worst of which was corrupt header on booting. Updating the BIOS may or may not solve all errors but my own experience teach the following: 1. I tried to update my BIOS (2019 version) to the latest (06.Nov.2020) Version 1704. And it failed. 2. I tried an earlier version (1502) and it was successful. Why? I have no idea, unless something has went wrong with ASUS programmers. Thus, I suggest to download all BIOS updates that have been issued after your BIOS version and copy them to your USB device as shown in the tutorial above. Follow the instructions for the EZ Flash 3 utility and try installing the first BIOS version update. If successful or failed, move on to the next update, and so forth. As for the corrupted header error: try to disable Fast Boot.
That worked for me thank you. And for those who are using a USB drive, make sure fast boot is disabled otherwise you will not be able to see it within the bios

Hey! Thx for replying, yup, I looked everywhere and nothing. Even contacted ASUS support, but they only offered to repair it after some basic Troubleshooting. I guess I'll take that.
How hard would it be, ASUS, to put a readme file that says "Format a USB drive in FAT32 with n size storage and use BIOS renamer to rename file and put on the USB FAT32 formatted USB drive, use the UEFI BIOS utility and install from that. Also, make sure Bitlocker is off if on BEFORE bios update"
After you use the rename If there’s a lock icon on the bios file just right click you will see something like owner just press on it to change it then copy it to the usb

Ninguna de las dos soluciones me sirvió. Lo que tuve que hacer para que funcionase fue primero actualizar la bios a la primera versión 5xxx del 2019 que salió y a continuación ya me dejó actualizar a la última versión.

A short file name X570.PAC did not work when I tried it from the root folder of a NTFS formatted drive. However I did originally have 1001 firmware from 2019 and the update was to 4XXX from 2022.
Thanks for this video! Fat32 wasn’t an option but exFat worked for me.
Even if my usb was fat32 & I had this error, I formatted to Fat32 and the same error occurred.
Yeah. Used exfat for 120 GB 3.0 flash drive. Used my old 2.0 16 GB formated as FAT no issue then. (Both form Kingston).
Thanks! 😊
What if my flash drive doesn’t have the option of fat32 ?
What if my Mouse and keypad wont work in windows but will work in bios, Cant update via bios cause of this problem.
I just brought a vivobook ryzen7, it was working fine, I reformatted windows , the driver for network adaptor has disappeared, on windows start up I get error can't connect to network , cmd: / bypassnro
Wifi airplane mode d okhasn't exist
I tried to reinstall bios network but doesn't work file not uefi
Is my windows 11 install corrupted
.did som9ne switch off the power to network adaptor
Or delete from windows system?
Windows repair not working
Never had this problem.
Bro I was doing the regular b550 f gaming instead it was the b550f gaming WiFi 🤦
So after you downloaded the proper firmware you were able to install without issue?
@@The_Retro_Room yep
That's great!
BRUH! I was doing the asus tuf x570 plus WiFi and didn’t realize I just had the x570 plus IT WORKS NOW 😩😭😭😭 thanks so much man!
Was this comment for me or for Pick1e?
It worked for me. Also works using FAT (im using a very small (and old flash drive)
I'm glad it worked for you!
Thanks for the video. This is so frustrating, why even make NTFS storage devices browsable if it can't read the file afterwards.
i already have fat32 format but have the same problem. what a ball´s pain
Worked. They included a file renamer. The new file name the application made is now SX570EG.CAP this tutorial helped. I skipped the conversion part as my flash drive was already FAT 32
Had same problem on ASUS Z690 bios v1720 but the USB was FAT32 and had to format it to NTFS
What is mean not a proper bios file ?
T_T mines on fat32 and still getting this message
Thanks! You are the god. The shitty board is updating now. If it fails in the end, I will cancel my Like hehe
Let me know how it goes!
@@The_Retro_Room Good news! I'm writing this comment on Ubuntu 20.04! This shitty OS is super-fast and beautiful, but there are other petty problems waiting to be solved by such a novice as me. OTL
Upgrading my BIOS in 2023 many thanks!
It works perfectly, thank you 👌👌.
You're welcome!
Great video but did not solve the problem. Reformatted, extracted 3607, not a valid bios
I have the same motherboard and can't get into the bios in any way...Any ideas ?
What sort of keyboard are you using? And what keys are you trying to press to enter the BIOS?
That simple, it should be possible to install from NTFS partition... ASUS please fix that...
i have dwnloaded an exe file of bios from asus website; what should i do?
Maybe this video will help you out: ruclips.net/video/Em7SRaG3L_0/видео.html
If this error persists. Create a new D disk, put the bios driver on the D disk, the problem is solved.
Really really don’t know what I’m doing wrong. It doesn’t work even with Fat32 format
WTF! Somebody kill me
I formatted the USB but I still came up with the same error message
It's interesting.... It works for some but not others. Sorry it didn't help you out.
Tried long format on USB and downloaded previous versions didn't work either
@@dandonna852 do you have this exact motherboard?
@@The_Retro_Room ASUS B150-Pro gaming D3
Like what... Thx man, worked like a charm
You're welcome!
One solution i found out working is to use winrar to extract the file. Dont use windows default one.
Can u help me with Selected bios is not proper bios
Mine says exfat...
what if u cant access windows?
Thx buddy,this solved the problem
No problem, glad to help!
Did the same. Not working. :(
Nice man, keep up the good work
Thank you! I will.

Hey Nelson hopefully u see this comment i need some help when I put in the bios folder and I go into bios to do it the folder isn't there. Can you please help
Hi. Did you put the BIOS folder in the root of the SD card?
@@The_Retro_Room Update yah I fixed it and now my whole build is working got my ram at 3600mhz my smart mode enabled thanks man
@@vahidkaumi1897 glad to hear it! You are welcome.
Thank you , it worked 💪
You're welcome!
Thumbs up! Thank you!
Thanks for the video, at least for me this didn't work, so im guessing its Asus website the one with the incorrect bios on thekr site or with errors or something
Unpack zip file with Winrar and flash the bios. It's my solution. Unpacking via 7zip or windows corrupts the bios file
NOT RESOLVE FOR ME.
FOR EVERYONE THAT STILL GOT PROBLEMS AFTER THIS VIDEO
TRY THIS OUT IT WORKED FOR ME -->
SOLUTION :
For some reason it doesn't worked with 32 gb ram , so i took 2 of my ram sticks out and tried with 16gb ram and booom it worked :)
If u got 32 gb ram try with 16 gb ram / If u got 16gb ram try with 8 gb ram
I have 128...
it's already fat32
Not working
Hi. Still not working for me .... :(
Just curious...... Have you made 100% certain you have the correct BIOS for your motherboard? I ask because there have been a few folks that had issues and they actually had downloaded the wrong BIOS.

Are you still getting the same error message? Make 100% certain that you are downloading the correct BIOS for your motherboard.
@@The_Retro_Room I was able to fix the problem. I could not do it in usb mode but I could do it with the lan cable via internet. Thank you
Did not work over herer
Thank you, dude! It's realy work!)
Wow it worked! Thank you
You're welcome!
NELSON 5 TECH I thought updating my bios would solve my fans not showing up on bios but it didn’t
Interesting! Can you access your fans with the ASUS utility within windows?
NELSON 5 TECH yeah with the aura sync I’m able to control 2 of my fans but the other 2 on the front I can’t. The front 2 fans are connected to my AIO usb connector, should I just connect them directly onto the motherboard?
