Cheers pal, just fixed mine today, the boot just wouldn't open with the latch actuator making funny noises. All good now with a brand new lock. Lovely Scottish accent btw, keep it up :)
Thanks for the video! Just as a side note, the bolts fastening the lock can be opened using a torx 40 - might not be suggested but seemed to work fine in lack of the original driver head.
@mrbroons Thanks for sharing the video. Very educational. Does your broken boot lock cause only closure issue or both open/closure issues? My low milage 08 Passat Wagon now experience 'closing' issue after parking for extended period through COVID. The hatch opens 100% fine from key fob, driver side interior button or release lever on the hatch. However, the close button on the hatch only works occasionally. When it works, the motor seems working and sounding just fine. Very often, the hatch does not respond to the button press. When it is not working, I poked the boot lock/latch with fingers, I can see the trunk light switch on and off. Not sure if it is due to boot lock or 'pull-down' motor failure. Any suggestions? Thanks much again!
@@jameswestwood hi James, thanks for your advice. I just played a little more. It seems fiddling the latch lock itself made some differences. Sometimes when I open the hatch and I did not see the trunk light comes on even though MDF shows the trunk open. Meanwhile, the close button does not work. Then I gently pushed latch lock mechanism a couple of times with the batch fully open until the trunk light comes on, then the button to close the hatch start working. Feel some connections are off and impact both trunk light and close button at the same time. In other words, the close button only works with the trunk light also lights up.
Many thanks! I've got to tackle this problem on my (slightly older) Passat. Your video makes it look do-able and I've ordered a couple of tools from the links in the description. The new latch looks like an OEM part: can you suggest where it's possible to get these? The parts dealer in Edinurgh will only supply to the trade and I'm finding it difficult to track down a reliable source for private individuals.
@@mrbroons Thanks. I actually got a non-VW part from autodoc and am delighted to say it's working fine! Thanks again for your video and tool tips, which were both very helpful.
@@mrbroons I've actually discovered that it is the wiring harness in the Flexi between the roof lining and the boot that is the issue. It appears that the cables have been damaged, possibly when the previous owner has repaired the common rear washer hose problem 🤦🏼
Ahhh should have thought of that!! I had the washer issue a while back but was fixed and never had an issue with the wiring. Glad you got to the bottom of it. Thanks for getting back to me.
How does it open and close on its own ? I have a 2014 estate and for some reason theres no button in the boot lid just a blanking cap and behind it some taped up wires , the boot open on the key fob and in the drivers door both dont work but the button on the boot itself unlocks it then i lift by hand like a standard boot
If you go to 1m 24 Sec on the video you will hear I mention that I have an electronic boot, it sounds like if you don't have the button your car doesn't have this, hence you have to open it manually, it's not a standard feature.
Thanks mate. Just replaced the lock on my 2013 VW Passat. Saved $500+
Glad to help Mick

BIG thanks Mr Broons, your tutorial was spot on and I found this of great help with the same problem on my car, £££s saved.
Glad it helped
Thank you for this video, problem solved after waching your work!

Awesome thanks so much, just fixed mine 🙂🙂
You're welcome!
Thanks very much I have the same issue the car won’t open from the door switch or the key fob but will open from the latch outside.
I have exactly the same issue. Did this fix the problem?

Hi Joe, that is different to my problem I believe. You may need a new boot release button.

@@joez800 That seems like a reasonable thing to check next, if you do get the chance to make a video on what you find I'd be interested in seeing it.

I bought the part from Edinburgh VW (Newbridge)

Will this fix the boot interior light not working? I.e does the boot interiour light come on whenthe latch is operated? Cheers
Hi Jason. It may do. I didn’t have this issue. Let me know how you get on

@@mrbroons its just so confusing because the button on the drivers door and key fob both dont do anything also
en het is hetzelfde voor mij, ik heb het handmatig geopend en nu werkt de knop Sluiten niet, wat kan ik doen
Thanks for getting in touch. Have you tried both the button in the boot and the one on the door? It may be a broken switch
My issue is the boot mechanism will not release at all. 😢
Hi Jon. Tell me more and I’ll see if I can help?
The micro switches onn all the passats suck
