It's not a historical documentary. You can still very much see this kind of dancing and singing if you watch musicals from today too.

The fitness level and skill of the old Hollywood 'hoofers' as they used to be known is off the chart. Gene Kelly was an unbelievably talented dancer. As for the first time I saw Donald O' Connor effortlessly dance up an actual wall? (no camera trickery). It was breath taking.

I've forgotten how gorgeous Vera Ellen's legs were in that White Christmas piece as she's high kicking. A Goddess dancer with the body that lived up to the description. WOW. Even though before my time, I still love the days when people would dance together and enhance each other instead of today's "look at me doing my own thing" dancing that's done. A lost art that should have never been lost. Even Michael Jackson failed to dance with someone else in a flawless duo like they did back then.

HI Ronald. I am bang up there with you and your praise of Vera Ellen, for me (Just MY opinion) she was the very best of the female dancers, Sadly she died at a relatively young age, but as I am a very old man I remember her so well, and I recall being devastated when she died.

This was a special time for dancers . They were pulling off Amazing dance moves . Sadly we don't see much of this anymore . Hey remember White Christmas the movie . Remember the tiny little blind dancer ,
Wasn't she Something to watch ?
Well know not many of U will know this . That was the Last time she ever danced or did movies she had her child pass away & I think the loss broke her .
Sad she was so ething else to see on stage .
Tiny Beautiful You g Woman may Ur Heart have Found The Peace U Lost .
I know U did because in Death U were able To Be With The Child who Took Ur Heart Away at Their Moment Of Death .
    Rest In Peace
    U Most Beloved Dancer .
    With Love , Peace & Light .
In Death I will be granted the Chance to Meet You Angel of Dance .

No - I’m not nostalgic for the past…but oh! How I love this edit….‘Life on Mars’ was me, aged 14 & a half, except that MGM Musicals were very real to me…I would go home & sketch the costumes, the principle reason why I learned to make clothes…
Later, when I had a daughter who trained as a dancer, my early inspiration helped me to make stage costumes for real!
In the video, I was reminded of Anne Miller’s amazing green dress for ‘Prehistoric Man’ - the design (by Helen Rose?) was so clever, as it appeared to be a ‘normal’ day dress - but the freedom of movement was built into the costume!
Thank you for your wondrous edit - I can now study the details all over again! 💐
Any chance of THE SKIRT, worn by Cyd Charrise in ‘Silk Stockings’ - you probably know the one I mean (the one with the pleats?), although I have a feeling that two skirts were finally used…
From Brighton 🌈 UK, take care & be well!
    🙏🏻💔🙏🏽

Wow. All those stars, if alive, would be thrilled by this. I was privileged to have worked at The Beverly Hills Hotel for years in the early-mid 1980's, rising to become Night Manager. In my video about Diana Ross "The Boss" I speak of other stars I served & especially Ginger Rodgers, who'd come down to the Front Desk on my night shift & talk with me, night after night. How sweet. Who am I? HA! I'd drive through Beverly Hills Residential to get to work & one afternoon saw Ann Miller walking her dog. Of course, I'm not going to bother her, but I lightly tapped the horn & waved at her, and she looked over and waved back at me. I was there at the hotel to serve and protect all the guests, no matter their wealth or fame.
Just wonderful, your video. Michael Jackson... he mentioned in the Diana Ross video. I just forgot to tell that brief story, about how he does not speak in that childlike tone, but his voice is in that adult male range. His stage voice is precisely that. Just one amazing artist who has brought such joy in my life. This video brings such joy too. Love, from Reno.

When you think of the fact that there are only 7 notes in music, it's theoretically very easy to put any type of dance to any type of music, provided the tempo is relatively the same. Having said that, I LOVE these comps and am always looking for more. Thanks for posting. And THANK YOU for listing the movies!!
