The 1982 Final was an extremely close match Waldner lost 19-21 in the 5th I think. Wish I could see the 1988 and 1991 matches you talked about but they are hard to find. I was lucky to see Walder play in Atlanta in 1995 but he got pissed after loosing to Cheng Yinghua. He then stopped trying and lost all subsequent matches including to Philip Saive and Tierry Cabrerra. Amazingly, that same year he won both matches in the team tie against China, in China. Beat Wang Tao and Ma Wenge
Appelgren won the European championship in Ghotenburg two months later and won gold in team and single competition If im not mistaken he didnt loose any match in the team competition.

Applgren and Jorgen have always been difficult style players for Waldner. When Waldner plays more robotic offensive players such as the chinese he does very well. If Waldner was Federer, Appelgren is like a Murray, keeps the ball in plays waits for a unforced error.

+christian white He practiced with them since he was 10 years old, they knew him so well. That was the problem for him.

Waldner beat the Apple 3-0 in the Swedish Championships in 1991.

Yes the same year! I think Waldner beat Appelgren 30-1 for a grand prize of $20.000. Appelgren got 10 grand for 2nd.

The Apple has more wins between them in important matches. Waldner did beat him though (3-1) that same year in the U.S open.
