This episode is one of my favorite Gravity Falls episodes. I really like how Soos is given the spotlight, and how he forms a connection with Melody. The two of them are just so cute together.
3:38 As a Mexican American, I have complicated feelings about the Grandpa joke. Because on one hand, that's absolute comedy gold. But on the other, I can only imagine what type of man Soos' grandpa must have been to belong down there. Especially if Abuelita was involved...
It really does hint at some sad stuff. Soos's mother is never, ever mentioned. We know his father isn't in the picture. I *think* we don't know for sure whether Abuelita is from his mother's side of the family, or his father's. (I always assumed she was from his mother's side, but I just realized it could be either. I don't think it's ever confirmed?) I feel like the implication is that Soos's mother died young. And then there's this joke about Abuelita's dead husband... wow. To pull back from the edge a bit, though -- she might only be implying that he was, like, a gambler, or some other type of "sinner" that we wouldn't consider *that bad*. But it definitely implies something pretty negative, and you've got to wonder what's up.
I just can’t get over the fact that this show predicted not only fanfare, but also dominate docking literature club! Also I know that the first final game came out a few months prior to this episode, but the story boarding and character design comes months to even a whole year before the final product airs!
FNAF 1 released August 8, 2015, while Soos and the Real Girl released September 22, 2015. Like you said, the production time of the episode predates FNAF by several months.
If the person you're flirting with is also a Gravity Falls fan then "Your face is good. I'm a Soos." would probably work as a pickup line. Otherwise probably not. Soos is sweet. I'm glad he and Melody found each other.
Fun fact: If you look back at the Amphibia episode "Thai Feud", Wayne Knight's character Ned was wearing a Romance Academy shirt. One of many hints that Amphibia, Gravity Falls and The Owl House all happen on the same Earth!
Some spoiler-free things: 1. This episode came out only a little after the first FNAF game, but this episode was still being written before the game came out, so neither were the inspiration. 2. This episode managed to make fun of FNAF and Doki Doki literature club in the same episode. 3. The journal reveals Giffany survived and is now in fight fighters with rumble mcskirmish. 4. Disney DID notice the hoo-ha comparison and asked Alex to remove it, but he told them to shove it.
In case you are wondering what is up with the title of the episode like Elijah, I'll explain what it is referencing. It is referencing the 2007 film Lars and the Real Girl, starring Ryan Gosling. It's a great film really about a man who has trouble interacting socially because of various issues and one day introduces his brother to his "girlfriend" a life-sized doll that Lars bought from an adult website, hence the "Real" part in the title, if you get what I mean. Now that I think of it, Gravity Falls managed to slip an adult joke into a Disney cartoon.
Oh, one of MANY fairly adult jokes. But yeah. They liked titles that made reference to other things, and in this one, they're clearly trying to draw a parallel between Lars and his blow-up doll girlfriend, and Soos and GIFfany.
I've been having a really hard time with this series since a really bad breakup. My ex and I used to watch this show together. We especially loved quoting this episode. Seeing you discover it for the first time has really helped me.
It's not hard to believe this wasn't Stan's first Vegas Wedding, the first lucky one was Eda The Owl Lady. Sadly she immediately took off with Stan's winnings and plunged his car into a canion
I just realized: Soos and Reggie don't just resemble each other, their girlfriends do too. (Rewatch the scene where Reggie & his fiancée walked into the mall and look at Melody again.)
Reminds me of a photo I saw featuring two identical twin brothers who had ended up marrying two identical twin sisters and then both couples had gotten identical twin children. It was the embodiment of the phrase "Heavens, they're multiplying."
Abuelita: "I would like to see you settled before I ascend to heaven and live with the angels." Soos: "And with Grandpa!" Abuelita: "No. He is not there." That was funny and completely dark at the same time!!!!
0:14 - *“Kinda confused about that. Uh, as opposed to a fake girl?”* It's a reference to the film _Lars and the Real Girl._ 7:08 - *“Oh god! Aahh, it's like **_Five Nights at Freddy's.”_* As you later find out, far more than you initially thought. Interestingly, this episode was first aired only two months after _FNaF_ came out - which means that, given the year-long production schedule of an animated TV episode, this was conceived and written _long_ before anyone had ever heard of Freddy Fazbear. 7:21 - *“ ‘Hoo-ha’? Did they not realise what ‘Hoo-ha’ is sometimes used to describe.”* Oh, they knew. They got a letter from Disney's S&P about it, just to make sure they knew and changed it. But Alex Hirsch argued back, that it's a proper word (listed in Webster's and everything) meaning excitement and hullaballoo, and in the context of an _owl-themed_ children's restaurant, that's obviously the intended meaning. Now, he _may_ have been trying to get something past the censors, but on the other hand, if you refuse to use any word that _someone_ uses as sexual slang, you're left with nothing but "the", "a", and possibly "and", but the latter is somewhat iffy. 11:26 - _[Establishing shot of Soos and his Abuelita's home]_ Take note of the burned-down tree stump next to the house. For future reference.
Fun fact: when Disney was going through the episode to check if it was appropriate, they brought up that the pizza shop “Hoo-Haa’s Jamboree,” was actually referring to female genitalia and Alex (creator of the show) was like, “It’s just the name of the Owl??” (If I can remember correctly).
Fun fact! This episode came out years before Doki Doki Literature Club, and, while it came out a few days after Five Nights At Freddy's, it was in production for a while before In other words: this episode is a scarily accurate coincidence that predicted both FNAF and DDLC
Melody Is still one of my animated teenhood crushes growong up. Also; Soos mwntions tbat Giffany has an octopus for a dad and could be a reference to either Octodad or Yog-Soggorh.
It's probably a reference to the fact that she's a character from a Japanese game and things with tentacles in Japanese media are infamous for having... interactions... with women.
I’m reminded of a twitter post someone made that was just “remember when Gravity Falls predicted DDLC *and* FNaF?” And Alex himself just replied with a screenshot of the moment in episode one where Soos says “my wisdom is both a blessing, and a curse”
9:35 so the Purse Lady in that scene was voiced by legendary Voice Actress Kari Wahlgren (She also voices Shandra Jimenez and Pacifica's Mother in Gravity Falls) and of all the lines Kari has delivered over the years "You can't undo who you are..." is, on God, the most cutting and powerful thing she has ever recorded.
The fact that Disney was against lgbtqa+ representations but had nothing against an episode that is a parody of two extremely horrifying and definitely not for kids indie horror games (FNAF and DDLC) really is something
FWIW this episode came out in 2014. It is not a parody of those games, it just uses two concepts that later got made into popular indie horror games known for supplying nightmare fuel.

This is a good episode! Some notes: The title is a play on "Lars and the Real Girl," a very good movie starring Ryan Gosling. Everyone compares the restaurant to Chuck E. Cheese, but I think it looks more like Showtime Pizza. The animation was done by Paul Robertson, who did the very strange Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006.

Tow of them are scary animatronics and rogue supernatural Dating Sim Character like from Fnaf and DDLC despite having to do with them during production as Fnaf came out somewhere in the same time the episode aired and three years or so before DDLC.
I have a show recommendation, It’s called Mobile Suit Gundam Witch From Mercury. It’s an Anime, The English dub actor for the main protagonist is Jill Harris, aka Charlie from Hazbin Hotel. The show has a strong LGBTQ focus, fun characters, a cohesive and strong story, has this mix of light hearted moments and very dark moments, and some incredible action sequences. After the Owl House ended, I felt a need to find something to get me engaged and make me look forward to what the future has in store, that’s when Witch from Mercury caught my eye. As someone who isn’t even that big of an anime fan, I highly recommend this to you. At 25 episodes the show wraps up this Sunday.
7:22 Yes, to answer your question. Disney asked Alex Hirsch to change it, but he said that in this context, there was nothing wrong with the word, and refused to change it.

Soos and the Real Girl is a reference to Lars and the Real Girl about a man who lives with his brother an sister in law who has delusions that a sex doll he ordered is a real person
The following excerpt is a genuine exchange between Disney and Alex Hirsch: Pg 492 - It has come to our attention that "hoo-ha" is a slang term for vagina please revise It is a proper word meaning excitement or hullabaloo, and that is CLEARLY its meaning here. The context is an Owl-themed restaurant called "Hoo-ha's Jamboree" Not changing it.

they did know what hoo ha was slang for, and the Disney censors tried to change it, but Alex Hirsch managed to keep it in. He argued that nobody would think that was meant with an owl themed restaurant called Hoo ha's jamboree

“You can’t undo who you are 👁️👄👁️.”
I love how she genuinely likes the joke. I feel most reaction people would be too grown up to find it funny.
How did Abuelita's "No he's not there" make it past the censors !!! Gets me every time 🤣
Dude this episode hits COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to when I was a kid in ALL THE RIGHT WAYS!! 🤩
The true crossover to end all crossovers.
It gets weirder. The Owl House team confirmed that Eda is Grunkle Stan's ex-wife.
5:36 Feel that Elijah already spot a potential not-so-average-girlfriend. Ah! Love ❤
In the chat they basically confirmed that she and Wee Lass Tammy are together.
@@kriszgamer0013Yo!!!
Congrats to them!
Oh yeah!!!!!
Some spoiler-free things:
Elijah's reaction to "no, he is not there" gets me every time!
Ps. That Lumity imp drawing in the beginning was SO CUTE!
I've been having a really hard time with this series since a really bad breakup. My ex and I used to watch this show together. We especially loved quoting this episode. Seeing you discover it for the first time has really helped me.
Fun fact: On the "Romance Academy 7" title screen, one of the options says "Shizenhakka", which means "spontaneous combustion".
You need to review the short where Soos, Dipper, & Gruncle Stan take Mable's dating quiz.
“Your face is good, I’m a Soos!”
“I’m not afraid of your eyes at all, I’m going to look at them! …EYE CONTACT!”
Abuelita: "I would like to see you settled before I ascend to heaven and live with the angels."
Soos: "And with Grandpa!"
Abuelita: "No. He is not there."
That was funny and completely dark at the same time!!!!
0:14 - *“Kinda confused about that. Uh, as opposed to a fake girl?”*
It's a reference to the film _Lars and the Real Girl._
7:08 - *“Oh god! Aahh, it's like **_Five Nights at Freddy's.”_*
As you later find out, far more than you initially thought.
Did they not realise what ‘Hoo-ha’ is sometimes used to describe.”*
Oh, they knew.
11:26 - _[Establishing shot of Soos and his Abuelita's home]_
Take note of the burned-down tree stump next to the house.
Fun fact! This episode came out years before Doki Doki Literature Club, and, while it came out a few days after Five Nights At Freddy's, it was in production for a while before
In other words: this episode is a scarily accurate coincidence that predicted both FNAF and DDLC
Can we respect that side characters we didn’t expect to get partners actually do, like soos and Robbie.
Bro this is my brothers favorite episode lmaooo
He is always saying “Your face is good! I’m a Soos!” And “UNDO! UNDO!” 💀
Melody Is still one of my animated teenhood crushes growong up.
Also; Soos mwntions tbat Giffany has an octopus for a dad and could be a reference to either Octodad or Yog-Soggorh.
It's probably a reference to the fact that she's a character from a Japanese game and things with tentacles in Japanese media are infamous for having... interactions... with women.
Can we all agree she means Mosco when she said "you think that would work for me"
Elisha your gay is showing
15:40 you would know
I’m reminded of a twitter post someone made that was just “remember when Gravity Falls predicted DDLC *and* FNaF?” And Alex himself just replied with a screenshot of the moment in episode one where Soos says “my wisdom is both a blessing, and a curse”
This episode forever convinced me that Soos is an asexual icon.
Yes! finally someone else who noticed
Wow, now that you say it...
The "or one particular girl" was so funny 😂
I wonder who she meant by that... 😏
Also all the throwbacks at that "particular person" were so funny
This Episode Predicted Doki Doki Literature Club and Five Nights at Freddy's and its amazing 🤣
Another episode. Another step closer to meeting one of my favorite charecters and getting more questions then answers :)
Some of the best relationships start out online. I met my wife online 22 years ago in a Yahoo chat room. We dated long distance for 10 months before I proposed. Three and a half months later, I got an apartment near her so we wouldn't be apart as much.
It’s sometimes hard for me to process people are still watching gravity falls for the first time lmao, it’s great I would honestly give anything to watch that show again. Haha anyway love your videos!! Keep it up!
JUST GIFFANY (BTW, the Steph Story Audiobook is narrated by Katy Benz herself!)
This is a good episode! Some notes:
The title is a play on "Lars and the Real Girl," a very good movie starring Ryan Gosling.
Everyone compares the restaurant to Chuck E. Cheese, but I think it looks more like Showtime Pizza.
The animation was done by Paul Robertson, who did the very strange Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006.
4:30 THE THEMESONG DIDNT EVEN START YET AMD YOU ALREADY GUESSED THE PLOT FOR THE WHOLE EPISODE!!!!!! You’re like my dad, he was able to guesses almost everything in this show
oh my god IVE just had the greatest idea... ELIJAH SHOULD PLAY DOKI DOKI LITERATURE CLUB! The amount of gay panic would be incredible
YESSS
@2:21: Just realized, the imps, amnity's horns are large bands, meaning male or male transitioning to female, since thick bands mean male, thin means female, :3
Soos: "Oh no! Undo!! Undo!!"
Woman: "You can't undo who you are."
That's so funny and true!!! LOL!!!!
One of my favorites episodes of the show for multiple reasons.
7:22
Yes, to answer your question. Disney asked Alex Hirsch to change it, but he said that in this context, there was nothing wrong with the word, and refused to change it.
Elijah is either soft launching a relationship or a big ol crush lmao
Ever since you started Gravity Falls I've been waiting for your reaction to Abuelita's line about her husband's afterlife, and I was NOT disappointed
soooo according to his Abuela, his name is Jesús, and everyone saying “Hey Soos” has been the joke all along?…..
…..and it sailed over my head for an entire season?…..
…..that checks out…
😅🤷🏾♀️
idk if anyone has mentioned it yet but the kiosk melody was working at, and the name on her apron, is "meat cute" ya'know.. like, meet cute. when they first meet and hit it off. puns :)
I cant believe this episode had DDLC and FNAF in it at the same time
Yeah, the censors really dropped the ball on "hoo ha", I can't believe they let that through.
Can't believe that GF predicted fnaf and ddlc in the same episode
Fun Fact: this episode and Five nights at Freddy’s was released in the same year of 2014 but FNAF 1 came first on August 8th and this episode came out on September 22nd and Doki Doki Literature club was released on the same day but in 2017
It’s been years since I saw the scenes from the episode. Rockafire explosion made me want to watch the whole episode. But then years back since this show is on Disney + I get to watch it.
Soos and the Real Girl is a reference to Lars and the Real Girl about a man who lives with his brother an sister in law who has delusions that a sex doll he ordered is a real person
The following excerpt is a genuine exchange between Disney and Alex Hirsch:
Pg 492 - It has come to our attention that "hoo-ha" is a slang term for vagina please revise
It is a proper word meaning excitement or hullabaloo, and that is CLEARLY its meaning here. The context is an Owl-themed restaurant called "Hoo-ha's Jamboree"
Not changing it.
7:25 no they realised, but Alex refused to remove it cuz it was clearly an owl pun
I was enjoying a beverage first time I saw that scene about Abuelita telling where gramps went, and I am lucky enough to live and tell about it.
The episode title is a play on the movie "Lars and the Real Girl" starring Ryan Gosling.
GIF stands for "graphics interchange format", which suggests it should be a hard G sound. But the creator uses a J sound, so who knows.
That game is like doki doki literature club but also yandere simulator and FNAF, this episode came out after fnaf was released, ddlc came out in 2017 and yandere simulator came out 2015
Why is no one talking about the fact that she keeps dropping hints that she like like someone? 🥰🥰
My guess is it’s a certain sunset, haired goddess 😂❤
i know right
Soos: "Hey there! I'm not scared of your eyes at all! I'm gonna look at them!!"
LOL!!!! XDXDXD
they did know what hoo ha was slang for, and the Disney censors tried to change it, but Alex Hirsch managed to keep it in. He argued that nobody would think that was meant with an owl themed restaurant called Hoo ha's jamboree
Trust me, Disney S&P definitely made a stink over Hoo-Ha Owl's Pizzamatronic Jamboree
That line will definitely get you one particular girl, you should 💯% try it on them and see what happens... If you haven't already 👀
Cough cough overseas cough cough
Gravity Falls: Predicts Doki Doki Literature Club *and* FNaF.
Alex Hirsch: "My wisdom is both a blessing and a curse."
“Anthyding can hadplen” Who had an aneurysm when coding that?
I like the answer to the code in this one. Fun refference:
Numbers:
WINNING HEARTS BY DAYLIGHT
POSSESSING ROBOTS BY MOONLIGHT
HER EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE IS A REAL FRIGHT
SHE HAS THE ONE NAME GIFFANY
The G if GIF stands for Graphic. Graphic Interchange Format. So it's a hard G.
9:38 I know people think of this quote "You can't undo who you are" as a joke, but I feel like she meant it. This is what I'm afraid of; trying to talk to people while having too little vocal communication skills. If I were talking to someone like Giffany, that'd help me get over my fear.
This is actually one of my favourite episodes... Apart from the 3 part finale, episode 10, episode 11 and episode 12...
Really hope the GF Reactions keep coming at a constant pace. I was a bit worried that you didn't like it. Season 2 is too good to pass up on.
"Your face is good. I'm a Soos"
- Soos 2013
7:24 Disney tried to get Alex Hirsch to use a different phrase there, but he didn’t change it. 😂
The episode title is a riff on Lars and the Real Girl, which I’ve never seen.
One of your best. Definitely best, “oh FUCK,” moment and yes, adulthood is ridiculous. If you think about it, most of adulthood is spent trying to somehow get back to your youth.
