My Dad would throw down a beating whenever we messed up. However, my oldest sister (by 8yrs) would talk us through what we did, and how it was wrong. I remember I ate my other sister's candy on her birthday and was really mad after my whooping. My sister sat down with me, comforted me, asked me how I would feel if someone ate mine, and reminded me that we don't get presents. That chocolate was our only celebration. I felt really bad, apologized, and understood why it was wrong. So, that's how I raise my kids now. I talk them through and hope they learn like I did. I'm really glad I have a sister like her.
That's awesome, I wish I was closer to my siblings when we were all going through it. I remember one time my dad sent me to my room and I wasn't allowed to eat dinner, and my brother snuck into my room that night to give me something to eat. That always stuck with me.

My best piece of parenting advice is never betray your child's trust. If they come to you about something they did wrong, don't scold them about it, they will be less likely to come to you next time. Instead, let them know why it was wrong and let them know that if they ever need help figuring things out next time that they can just come talk to you. You can do the same thing if you find out that they did something wrong as well.
100% disagree. I was originally raised by my dad for the first 14 years of my life. He wouldn't always beat me, but there was a lot of yelling, grounding and extra chores, only when I did something horrible like beat up a girl at school did he beat me for it. Only time he ever had to for me to never do that again. That worked amazing, I tried so hard to be a good kid because I understand that there were consequences and he made me understand that among a lot of other things. When he passed away and I was forced to live with my mom, she tried the whole lets talk about it method and never actually punished me, oh yeah I took advantage of that so hard, dropped out of school, drinking and smoking the whole nine yards of nonsense just because I wouldn't get punished for it at all. No actually punish your damb kids. It works.

In this case to be fair, we don't know how "horrifying" the police was, or the vibe in general. A lot of people seem to immediately imagine a real crime investigation scene being applied to the child, but we could expect a bit of common sense to all the adults involved. If anything, it could've been close to a job experience thing for children. Ofc I don't know exactly what happened, but so do they, and the journalists would truly prefer to omit any positive leaning details for more drama.

People are different and requires different strategies to get them to stop doing wrong but none of that should be so bad to induce trauma, just because they did something bad like stealing doesn’t give a parent the excuse to do something worse like beating them, that’s just wrong. And given that there are a lot of examples where going to the extreme with punishment is bad pretty much all of the time, I would say even the most different of people don’t like it when their parents which they should be able to confide in and trust most completely break them emotionally, physically and mentally.

Here’s a sadder story. A girl about 10-11 years old went to a stationary store. The store owner guy claimed that she stole some stuff. She said she didn’t do it but the guy wouldn’t believe her. He posted her picture and info around the block and her school, telling people she’s a “thief”. She couldn’t stand it and to prove herself innocent, she jumped from the rooftop. True story, it’s on our local news.

i got decent grades, but i was a rascal too, fighting at school, skipping life orientation classes to go to the arcade. I used to get hit with a sjambok which is like a leather whip. The lecturing thing really works, all three of my older brothers have served time, my Dad used to hit em, yell at em, and give ‘em extra chores when they fucked up. By the time me and my little brother came around he was too tired and just resorted to lecturing our ears off, but neither me nor my little brother have ever been in trouble with the law or really anything else.
As a babysitter, I honestly feel like lecturing kids every time they lie has only made them better liars. I lied to my parents like twice when I was a child and they believed me without questions, but the overwhelming guilt I felt afterwards has forced me into becoming an honest adult.

Honestly, I have less sympathy for the 15 year old. I get teens make ridiculous decisions sometimes, but imo, I'd expect a HS student to know better. The 6 year old child on the other hand was just wrong on so many levels. Erasers cost nothing and she's just a child. The boys said only in Japan, but I could see this happening in America too. Under the right circumstances, 100% would happen here too. Even if not done by police, I believe some parents would be all for this. Edit: To clarify, I'm not all for calling in the police on a minor. Also when I was speaking about an "experience with the police" I was not implying minors should be roughed up or traumatized. I was referring to any interaction with law enforcement even if nothing eventful happens. I would do everything I could with the business and the officer to plead the minor's case. Especially if this was the minor's first and only offense. Still, I stand by expecting more from HS students. You just don't always get away with theft. Sometimes people will insist you pay for your mistakes even if you're a minor.

The thing that broke them was that I fell asleep while my parents and brother were out of the apartment, the catch is that I had locked the door because we lived in a five floor block of flats and safety and stuff. So apparently I was in such deep sleep that I didn't hear their knocks on the door and they had to stay at our neighbours until I eventually woke up.
I remember when internet chat rooms on phones was a big thing before social media. I had a 20 euro balance on my phones, so when you use 20 euro worth of data, minutes or texts, it shuts down and you can use your phone again next month. With some settings on my phone I got to bypass that and was using internet on my phone even past my balance amount. Month later my mom got a phone bill of 800 euro and gave me the biggest lecture of my life.
One of my co workers accidentally gave out our law firm’s trust banking details to a scammer who said they were from Chase bank. They had partial info and they were ‘trying to verify’ details and she fell for it. We felt so bad for her and our poor attorney had to go down to the bank to get all the money moved before they drained it. I heard the call and knew something was wrong and ran to our attorney to tell her 😂 she ran to the accounting girl and was like “Hang up now!😮” we got it sorted but man it was a day at the office lol

Appreciate the dedication, love his impersonations, and being able to make two scammers fight against each other in a rap battle is an achievement that is beyond the realm of believability, and yet there he was being the grandma judge of it.
Easy 8 hours as in you have long form content in mind, not necessarily whether it’s easy to accomplish or not. Especially for casual streamers like Garnt, coming up with stream ideas aside from gameplay is quite a challenge.

My mom traumatized me by being very angry and shouting and silent treatment after that, she would never say sorry so I never knew if she was still angry. It was a lot of walking on egg shells when I was a kid.
My parents taught me not to lie because they'd always say that if I told the truth when I'd done something bad, they wouldn't be as angry / disappointed, so one day I told the truth and that day they told me off less than usual and then thanked me for telling them the truth, now as an adult I absolutely hate lying to people and I try to avoid it as best as I can.

Regarding parenting methods, once I slammed the door to my room shut really really hard because I for some reason had gone angry at my mum. I went to play with the neighbour and when I got back, my mum head deadass just taken the door off the hinges 💀 She said I wasn't responsible enough to have a door if I was gonna slam it that hard. I was maybe 8 or 9 years old 🪦
Finding the right way to discipline is probably the hardest role for me as a parent. I want to be fair and make sure they understand why what they did is wrong. But I am also young and still learning, so I try to lead by example and have told them that if they feel I am being unfair or hypocritical that they can bring it up so we can discuss it and try to work it out together.
If you have children, you aren’t young anymore. I don’t have any children but grew up taking caring of them even when i was a child and i got quite good at it. The trick is that you lead by example , because no matter what you say if you act different they will eventually make out the fact that you aren’t acting what you are preaching. And another big point alot of people overlook : Kinds are not dumb they are just uneducated, people often treat kids as if they are unintelligent and tend to treat them more akin as spoiled pets. Just treat them as their own person and lead by example and you should be fine and you have to be a stern rolemodel.
I love how they mention that since they record earlier the episodes will no longer be out of date in the same episode they talk about established titles.
My favorite part of the Great British Bake-off is when you make non-British dishes because any foreigner watching is guaranteed content. I think the Mexican one was the funniest because of the natural British aversion to any spice not going into a nice curry.
fun fact: Back when TLC first started, it was actually a learning channel, similar to Discorvery Channel. I'm a mix of all the parents. I do the same a Garnt's dad, I lecture my kid for a few hours, but he rarely gets in trouble. Also my son only got his mobile phone when everyone from his class already had it, and it was not a new phone, it was my old phone , he still uses that phone.

As someone that was always ridiculed by family members when making mistakes, I couldn't agree more. I developed some hard trust issues with my mom.

Too many parents only want to be their kids friends. Too scared to hear that they hate you. So what if your kid hates you for a week because you grounded them or spanked them? I'd rather my kids hate me then think the world revolves around them which too many of you dumb idiots think it does. And I don't want to hear the "studies have shown that kids respond better to less punishment and more conversation" yea no kidding. No kid wants to be punished, that's the point. You make your kid learn that doing wrong things has consequences and they will hate that moment but they won't do it again because they don't want to feel bad again. Again, not every kid needs to be beaten for everything, but they do need real punishment. Otherwise they have no humility and no sense of punishment. Not until it's either too late because they angered the wrong person being selfish or they get into real legal trouble.

In this case to be fair, we don't know how "horrifying" the police was, or the vibe in general. A lot of people seem to immediately imagine a real crime investigation scene being applied to the child, but we could expect a bit of common sense to all the adults involved. If anything, it could've been close to a job experience thing for children. Ofc I don't know exactly what happened, but so do they, and the journalists would truly prefer to omit any positive leaning details for more drama.

People are different and requires different strategies to get them to stop doing wrong but none of that should be so bad to induce trauma, just because they did something bad like stealing doesn’t give a parent the excuse to do something worse like beating them, that’s just wrong. And given that there are a lot of examples where going to the extreme with punishment is bad pretty much all of the time, I would say even the most different of people don’t like it when their parents which they should be able to confide in and trust most completely break them emotionally, physically and mentally.

As a parent of two, I can tell you that kids learn best when you give them the opportunity to make the mistake for themselves and see the repercussions firsthand.

i got decent grades, but i was a rascal too, fighting at school, skipping life orientation classes to go to the arcade. I used to get hit with a sjambok which is like a leather whip. Ratting your kid out to the police and risking a potential criminal record entry over a 5$ cable is some Orwell level stuff. It will only cause your kid to be more guarded and estranged as they now have to worry any little mistake told to parents will lead them to the police, conviction and prison... absolutely a way to ruin a family.
And even worse, The kid in the future may, probably, end up disassociating and distance themselves, as far as possible, away from their parents. The lecturing thing really works, all three of my older brothers have served time, my Dad used to hit em, yell at em, and give ‘em extra chores when they fucked up. By the time me and my little brother came around he was too tired and just resorted to lecturing our ears off, but neither me nor my little brother have ever been in trouble with the law or really anything else.
As a babysitter, I honestly feel like lecturing kids every time they lie has only made them better liars. I lied to my parents like twice when I was a child and they believed me without questions, but the overwhelming guilt I felt afterwards has forced me into becoming an honest adult.

Honestly, I have less sympathy for the 15 year old. I get teens make ridiculous decisions sometimes, but imo, I'd expect a HS student to know better. If it was my kid, I'd do what I could to save them from having an experience with the cops. Still, I would understand the business calling in law enforcement. Even if the item wasn't that expensive.

Especially if this was the minor's first and only offense. Still, I stand by expecting more from HS students. You just don't always get away with theft. I had a 20 euro balance on my phones, so when you use 20 euro worth of data, minutes or texts, it shuts down and you can use your phone again next month. With some settings on my phone I got to bypass that and was using internet on my phone even past my balance amount. Month later my mom got a phone bill of 800 euro and gave me the biggest lecture of my life.
One of my co workers accidentally gave out our law firm’s trust banking details to a scammer who said they were from Chase bank. They had partial info and they were ‘trying to verify’ details and she fell for it. We felt so bad for her and our poor attorney had to go down to the bank to get all the money moved before they drained it. I heard the call and knew something was wrong and ran to our attorney to tell her 😂 she ran to the accounting girl and was like “Hang up now!😮” we got it sorted but man it was a day at the office lol
Just discovered Kitboga this week as well. Don't really think that's an easy 8-hr stream as the man has to setup fake websites to make him being scammed much more believable. Easy 8 hours as in you have long form content in mind, not necessarily whether it’s easy to accomplish or not. Especially for casual streamers like Garnt, coming up with stream ideas aside from gameplay is quite a challenge.

My mom traumatized me by being very angry and shouting and silent treatment after that, she would never say sorry so I never knew if she was still angry. It was a lot of walking on egg shells when I was a kid.
My parents taught me not to lie because they'd always say that if I told the truth when I'd done something bad, they wouldn't be as angry / disappointed, so one day I told the truth and that day they told me off less than usual and then thanked me for telling them the truth, now as an adult I absolutely hate lying to people and I try to avoid it as best as I can.

Regarding parenting methods, once I slammed the door to my room shut really really hard because I for some reason had gone angry at my mum. I went to play with the neighbour and when I got back, my mum head deadass just taken the door off the hinges 💀 She said I wasn't responsible enough to have a door if I was gonna slam it that hard. I was maybe 8 or 9 years old 🪦
Finding the right way to discipline is probably the hardest role for me as a parent. I want to be fair and make sure they understand why what they did is wrong.
But I am also young and still learning, so I try to lead by example and have told them that if they feel I am being unfair or hypocritical that they can bring it up so we can discuss it and try to work it out together.
If you have children, you aren’t young anymore.
I don’t have any children but grew up taking caring of them even when i was a child and i got quite good at it.
The trick is that you lead by example , because no matter what you say if you act different they will eventually make out the fact that you aren’t acting what you are preaching.
And another big point alot of people overlook : Kinds are not dumb they are just uneducated, people often treat kids as if they are unintelligent and tend to treat them more akin as spoiled pets.
Just treat them as their own person and lead by example and you should be fine and you have to be a stern rolemodel.

I'm a mix of all the parents. I do the same a Garnt's dad, I lecture my kid for a few hours, but he rarely gets in trouble. Also my son only got his mobile phone when everyone from his class already had it, and it was not a new phone, it was my old phone , he still uses that phone.
