    Because of this review, I bought the 2018 carbon mach 6. I love it. The XL fits me perfect and i'm 6'3". I feel this is the best "all round" bike I have ever ridden.

      MTB yumyum im also torn between this two bikes. but right now im inclined on this 2018 mach6. i just think that the 64.9hta is too much for me on the hd4.

    Owned a #Carbon5.7 before the #CarbonMach6 came out. I didn’t want to go all the way to a Firebird because of all the climbing around here. I got the Carbon Mach 6 with the Pro build and the Reynolds Black Label rims. Kashima coating front and rear. The big difference is the head angle. The 5.7 had slightly snappier handling while the Mach 6 is more of a bomber downhill. I love the bike and just enjoy looking at it! Not a lot of Pivots in the Bay Area (no good dealers) so when you see another one you do the knowing nod. You both know you have a kick ass bike. I even rode the trails at Northstar for 2 days and it did awesome. Good to see you @BrienGonzales. Thanks for all the help with the bike when I was buying it’s! Pivot customer service is awesome (I worked in customer service at Specialized for 2 years so I know what good customer service isn’t and what it should be).

    Dude!! I wish everyone would do reviews like this. It's so nice to see all the different terrain changes and the most important part....the actually production line. I work in production for Vic Firth drumsticks, and people don't understand the amount of quality control and the process in general of making a product and how it can effect said product. It helps give a better perspective and appreciation for what you are buying. I loved this video!!

    I’ve been riding the Firebird for the past year on everything from bay area fire road climbs to lift access DH, and I would say it pedals way better than people give it credit for. Granted, there are situations I’d be more comfortable on something like that Mach 6 but the confidence the FB gives on decents, more than makes up for it.

    • @TheLoamRanger

    Great review Ryan, and very cool that you got a tour. I see Pivots all the time around town and didn't know they did that much of the finishing work in house.
    I was on a medium Mach 6 last weekend at a Pivot demo here in Phoenix. It's an amazing bike. I'd ridden the Firebird a few times before, and felt the Mach 6 was a lot more responsive and far better at climbing - without giving up too much to the Firebird on downhills.

    • @TheLoamRanger
      @TheLoamRanger  6 лет назад

    Another tip with the water bottle idea, I drilled the frame of my YT Capra AL comp bike and stuck a water carrier underneath the bike. Just had to buy a bottle with a dust cap and has served me well.

    • @renaudmarcotte8944
      @renaudmarcotte8944 6 лет назад

      Shouldn't drill through any frame, carbon or aluminium. Even if the hole is minimal it still weakens the frame. Maybe not noticeable on impacts, but it surely has an effect on how the material handles fatigue, and shorten the life of your frame. Plus you void you waranty, so if even if you get damage nowhere near the hole, the company won't do a thing, since you've drilled through their frame.

    • @justinwbohner

    This Mach 6 is a beauty! I'd be curious how you'll like it at Whistler and how it compares to your Reign. Side note, I'm in Bellingham and would love to do a colab with you this summer at Whistler! It be sweet to go with an experienced Whistler rider and talk YT! That aside, keep up the great work Ryan, love your videos!

      Thanks! That Mach6 isn't my bike though -- it was just a demo. I've got a Pole Evolink 140 being built up right now that I'm pumped to be riding all next year! Hey how's the riding in early January around Bellingham? I'm actually planning on getting out there next month if the weather isn't too bad. We should meet up if it works out!

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider 6 лет назад

      Bellingham is great in January, as long as the snow level isn't too low. The trails drain pretty well, but with how unpredictable the rain is, you have to plan to ride in the rain and get muddy. Let me know when you're thinking of coming down and I'd love to meet up, it'd be great to show you everything Bellingham has to offer (that being if you haven't ridden here yet)!

  • @mmwoodland
    @mmwoodland 6 лет назад +1

    I own this bike as well, I agree on switching the tires, I went for DHF 2.6 and Rekon 2.6 in the rear.
    I am 6'-3/4" and went with a large. I think it was the correct size. I also have a 429SL in large (which is a larger geometry) for more XC trails and notice the difference. If I was to have this as more as do it all bike and might do more XC trails, but wanted the ability to do more enduro riding as well. Then I might go up a size as you did, but for intended enduro use, I like the large.
    I also went with the Fox 125mm dropper (you choose when ordering). I considered the Fox 150mm, but according to Pivot's site it would have been at the lowest limit, which sounds like what you experienced.
    Overall, I am really enjoying this bike. The 429SL is a better climber, I find myself out of the seat a little more on the Mach 6, but could be a learning curve. Downhill hill, much faster and find myself choosing fast but more difficult lines.

  • @johnnnewmex

    Looking at these--the geometry of the XL--why does the PIVOT MACH-6 in all sizes have a shorter reach than other brands in this size, i.e., Stumpjumper, Bronson, Kona Process, etc.?
    Is that truly noticeable when riding? Is it because they have an upright geometry with longer stack and less reach?
    ~JSV
    OK never mind, I just saw that. You have the reach of the XL at 485. The pec' sheet I looked at for the Mach6 showed me a lot less on the reach. Your vid has been very helpful then THANKS!

    Wow, I wish Pivots were more afforable, the Mach 6 would be on my list. Here in Canada they get soooooooo expensive. Great video! How does it compare to the Rocky Mountain Altitude? I m seriously considering the Altitude.

    • @TheLoamRanger
      @TheLoamRanger  6 лет назад

      They're not cheap, for sure. Hmm they're both good bikes with similar characteristics, but I'd probably go Mach6 between the two because of the suspension platform and stiffness. Having said that, I'd be 100% happy to own/ride either.

    • @19nolram82
      @19nolram82 6 лет назад

      The Loam Ranger do you think is worth it to swith from 2016 altitude 790msl rally edition to 2018 pivot mach6 carbon?

    • @TheLoamRanger
      @TheLoamRanger  6 лет назад

      19nolram82 that depends on how much you like your current bike, cash flow and what you think would be better about the Mach6. The M6 has more modern geometry and more travel, so if you feel that would be a benefit to you go check one out and buy it!

    Hi Ryan! It's always a treat watching you and this video was very interesting in every way, including the factory visit! On another note, how would you compare your experience with the Mach 6 and the Pole Evolink? I know you're building the Evo, but since you said that the Mach 6 was the best "enduro" bike you've tested, let us know your thoughts. Thanks!

    • @TheLoamRanger
      @TheLoamRanger  6 лет назад +1

      Glad to hear you like the vid! I like how snappy feeling the Mach 6 was and it was a great climber. The Evolink is an even better climber overall IMO, but there is a bit more suspension movement from pedalling forces on the Evolink as well, not by much, and we are comparing it to what most people see as the holy grail of pedalling platforms (DW Link). They are both VERY fast bikes, that's for sure.

    • @bouzouki2006
      @bouzouki2006 6 лет назад +1

      In my opinion, the DW link gives the bike a better pedalling platform and a bit more pop than the Maestro susp. Having said that, the Reign is such a fun bike to plow down a rough trail with. Different personalities for sure!

    Stupid question and way late, but perhaps you or any other knowledgeable person can answer: Is there any difference between the 2018 and 2019/20 model? Because I thought the refresh was for MY2018, but the new model looks slightly different than all the ones I saw in tests so far. If you look at the area where the toptube joins the seattube, some modes have a see-through-gap between the toptube and the reinforcement tube (for lack of a better word), whereas some models don´t. Is this a framesize thing or an AL vs Carbon? Thanks for clarification!
    Also, anyone any long-term experiences? Cheerio!

      Unless you do a ton of park days, I’d go M6. I’d pick the Pole Machine over both though 😬🙈

    27.5 or a 29 for a do it all bike? Assuming same or similar geometry and components.
    Also Yeti SB5 Lunch Ride, test that bad boy please.

      +klassyken good question! Just picked up an aggressive 29er for my new daily ride, so give me a couple of months and I'll let you know my answer :D

      I was on a Yeti Sb5.5 last season, the bike rocked. However there was an adjustment phase on the wagon wheels and i am not sure they are for me, 5'11 tall. So am considering going back to the 27.5s for a season to compare and contrast.

      It's actually from the RUclips Music Library! Can't remember the name of it though... Search for "Silent Partner" -- that's the artists name.

    • @ThinkyPain
      @ThinkyPain 5 лет назад

      Can't speak to after sales support (since I have not needed any for ~3 years now). But when I was building up my current Mach 6 frameset, Brian (the guy from the video) was very helpful over email with getting me whatever info that I needed.

      It's a great resource! You can even overlay a heat map on a riding zone to see what the most ridden trails are. It's invaluable when trying to scope out new areas, for sure.

      The Loam Ranger I agree that's why I'm building one right now. I'm gonna run a CC inline coil with a remote lock out to take full advantage of the low anti squat. Plus the IL lock out is a progressive lever, the more you turn it the more support you get.
