This is real, because the time flies and we can't really pay attention on it. When I stopped to think about my 40th birthday arrived. Now I completely understand my parents.
I kind of like that it’s a fantasy war. Also I wouldn’t want to do research on the world wars to be able to write my book if I was her too 😅 it would take too much time and it doesn’t matter if it was a real war for the story.
I loved the romance. I just wanted more bonding moments between them in real life. Also I wanted to explore the magical town more as well. I loved the magical grocery store that moved all the items she can afford next to her and the ones she couldn’t away.
i hate the word "exquisite" because it sounds like the portuguese word "esquisito", which means "weird", so i can never think of it as a positive word ahjaskdjnsak
as far as i know, most authors write their own bio, but write in 3rd person to make it seem like someone else wrote it. It sounds more professional in 3rd as opposed to writing it in 1st and sounding like a dating app bio.
13:55 the stream of consciousness word association making you look like you are having a prophetic vision. but ending up being dormant hamilton lyrics i cannot stop laughing😭😭😭
I got divine rivals I’m kinda new to reading books a lot but I would say the romance is a tad rushed and it’s DEFINITELY NOT enemies to lovers but rather rivals to lovers, either tho the blurb says otherwise, any suggestions for good enemies and/ or rival lovers?
Like iris found out about Roman and then the next day he’s like “lol we should get married bc we might get blown up tomorrow” and she’s like “okay then” and then they got separated literally the day after they got married 😭 like cool but where’s the build up?
It’s the war they’re most familiar with because they study it in school. But setting the book in actual world war 1 takes too much research. And the research isn’t necessary for the book. Like it doesn’t have to be the real war in the book.
So I didn't read the book so I only have an auditory understanding, and while I know names like "Iris" or "Roman", I did not know the evil god's name was spelled Dacre, so the first time it was said I heard "the bad guy's daycare" instead of "the bad guy, Dacre" and I went O.O . I mean, if I had to run a daycare, I'd probably turn evil too
I think it's so insane that when Iris found out it was him writing the letters Roman was like "nooo I didn't lie, because Carver is my middle name" HE DID LIE THOUGH??? How does that change anything, she was not aware Carver was his middle name so this still makes it a lie by omission. That was so gross and manipulative to me
She has a duology called elements of Candace and I love it and think it’s better than Divine Rivals, but I really liked Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows
Finally! Someone who also says that Divine Rivals feels... Weird. Its not exactly a bad book but its not great you know? Its not Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice. I just dont like Roman Im so sorry I just think he is just egoistical in a bad way. I think this book would be better if the focus more in the gods lore, learning about the magic system, their history aaaaaand we establish better the relationship between the main girl and Roman. I think It would be better If it has angst and then in the second book they confess.
I really did not like this book, I came close to DNFing it at 24% and then again at 70%. I skipped to the end after the hospital scene and I should have listened to my gut and stopped at 24% though skipping to the end might have helped the rating in the end. When I read her ask Forest "where is my husband", I was so done. The romance was the least interesting part of this book while also being the main focal point. I completely forgot about the enchanted store that called her broke, god there truly is no reason for this to be set in a fantasy world. I gave it 2 stars (would be 1.5 if I could do half stars) because I didn't think it's the worst writing and I didn't actually read the marriage/sex arc lol and I would have DNF right then if I had. You were spot on about a complete lack of interest in finding out what happens to these people, I truly don't care about any of them. I wish she had just written the historical romance she was obviously wanting to write and called it a day, would have saved me time reading it. I also really hated Roman but that's to be expected with me, I never like a male romance character. But he was just so manipulative and clearly what he wanted was more important than the wishes of someone he claimed to care about. Which we knew from the beginning when he refused to give back her very vulnerable letters to her brother and that trend continued through the whole book.
I genuinely could not shake Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger as my mental pictures for Iris and Roman. I didn’t understand the love for this book, I feel so vindicated hearing all my complaints echoed back 😂
Oh yes yarros is effing weird, like she is known for mostly military romance, which makes fourth wing even more unexcusable bad? Also that she is a literal military spouse even weirder how she writes violet? and her complaint was that , "oh the military needs to not ccare of ptsd the most or veterans, but straining relationships, yes totally. Whatever gaza stuff, that sunreliable but she is effing weird.
Completely of topic but since you're still German, have you seen the film Je suis Karl? If so what did you think of it and do you think its main point is pretty accurate?
The way you torture yourself for us. Wait, I can tell you about author bios. Typically you write your own and, in the case of jacket copy, it will be copyedited and tweaked.
I didnt like the book either, and I enjoyed fourth wing. I just didn't care about the characters, i found them annoying. I was way more interested in the gods subplot that never developed.
The way I held myself back from watching your reading vlog and this review until an hour ago because I wanted to read the book first… Thankfully I caved and just watched your EXQUISITE videos on it instead. Won’t be reading the book anymore. 👹
Sophie, I love your reviews and I like to use them as a podcast as I get ready for work or to relax on my time off, but your obsession with how "I am so young like a child~" and how you hunt for the age of the author just to talk bad about their age, is really concerning. You say "peace and love" whenever you comment about it, but there is neither peace or love with your words no matter how much you claim it, only ageism and the fear that you will one day be in your 30s. There is nothing wrong with ageing.
I hate to let you in on a secret... I'm pushing 60 and I still dont feel like a "real" adult.
This is simultaneously comforting and terrifying 😅
Same bro, I'm 36, and I still don't feel like an adult
This is real, because the time flies and we can't really pay attention on it. When I stopped to think about my 40th birthday arrived. Now I completely understand my parents.
The setting is fantasy so that the author wouldn't have to do any research on actual WWI and WWII Europe 😂
I kind of like that it’s a fantasy war. Also I wouldn’t want to do research on the world wars to be able to write my book if I was her too 😅 it would take too much time and it doesn’t matter if it was a real war for the story.
the fact that you think there is a significant difference from 32 to 36 made me laugh so hard! Once you're over thirty you didn't change that much. 😂
After 25, you basically look the same for the next 10 and even 15 years.
Having Secret History, Shadow and Bone and Red Rising stacked in the background is such a mood
This book wouldve been 100x better without the romance and more focus on worldbuilding, sibling bonds, and side character development.
In Spanish Esquisto means delicious
as far as i know, most authors write their own bio, but write in 3rd person to make it seem like someone else wrote it. It sounds more professional in 3rd as opposed to writing it in 1st and sounding like a dating app bio.
I definitely wish there was more world building and more interactions between iris and Roman in real life
“I have the time to read, I just don’t want to” So true! 😂
13:55 the stream of consciousness word association making you look like you are having a prophetic vision. but ending up being dormant hamilton lyrics i cannot stop laughing😭😭😭
the little stars in the background are so prettyyy
I got divine rivals I’m kinda new to reading books a lot but I would say the romance is a tad rushed and it’s DEFINITELY NOT enemies to lovers but rather rivals to lovers, either tho the blurb says otherwise, any suggestions for good enemies and/ or rival lovers?

Can be danmei? I read a good one called Mo dao zu shi or ( Grandmaster of demonic cultivation from Mxtx) the plot and the twists are amazing.
Why do american authors feel the need to write alternate western european wwi-esque history and call it high fantasy... (Side-eyeing leigh bardugo)
It’s the war they’re most familiar with because they study it in school. But setting the book in actual world war 1 takes too much research. And the research isn’t necessary for the book. Like it doesn’t have to be the real war in the book.
As a 36 y/o. Your comment about the author not looking 36 but 32
Ain't much of a difference when you hit 30 honey, this is just cuz you're young
So I didn't read the book so I only have an auditory understanding, and while I know names like "Iris" or "Roman", I did not know the evil god's name was spelled Dacre, so the first time it was said I heard "the bad guy's daycare" instead of "the bad guy, Dacre" and I went O.O . I know a guy at work whose name is pronounced "daycare" but I don't know how it's spelled.
I think it's so insane that when Iris found out it was him writing the letters Roman was like "nooo I didn't lie, because Carver is my middle name" HE DID LIE THOUGH??? The background looks so good!!! Thank you for the video as always! ❤
She has a duology called elements of Candace and I love it and think it’s better than Divine Rivals, but I really liked Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows
TikTok keeps overhyping these books and I end up wasting my money and becoming super disappointed 😭
your lipstick look so cute!!!
Never heard of this book but really looking forward to hearing your thoughts

im wondering if i should fr pick up this book and read it
26:48
I'm writing a book rn (#multitasking ahahah) and it's the way I immediately deleted exquisite from one of my sentences after hearing this 😂
Literally the only review who's opinion I agree with and you're so funny lol

Love your lipstick! 💄
23:50 its giving Ravva and Batu from The Legend of Korra.
I haven't published books but historically IME I wrote my own About Me blurb lol
Bed and breakfast as a concept have existed since the 18th century. So, not an anachronism.
I genuinely could not shake Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger as my mental pictures for Iris and Roman. I didn’t understand the love for this book, I feel so vindicated hearing all my complaints echoed back 😂
ok new background
13:56 this part made me laugh so much
Sophie, you need a fandom name.
bookhaters 🤭
Omg the thumbnail ❤❤❤

I didnt like the book either, and I enjoyed fourth wing. I just didn't care about the characters, i found them annoying. I was way more interested in the gods subplot that never developed.

This new background is cool and all but YOU!!! Girl, you look amazing gahh damn 🥲
I found the book boring too
This book seems boring AF.
This book sucked.
