Thank you for this - I just started playing again after about 15 years. My right shoulder was really hurting and this video made me realize it was my shoulder pushing forward because I’m on a giant fat acoustic (I used to have a slender ovation, which I miss but it’s at my mom’s!). I’m going to try playing standing for awhile now to keep my back straight and shoulder back instead of hunching.

Dude, thank you for making this video. Been in mortal pain for years because of my love of the guitar. It's nice to know I'm not alone out there.

We all have those days, and I'm glad I could help. I've actually been dealing with a condition called radial tunnel syndrome for almost two years now. It has caused me all kinds of related aches and pains up and down my arm. Keeping my posture and technique correct helps me a lot, so your video helped more than you know. Keep on strumming.

Good tips. I moved to electric guitar; much more ergonomic for me, at my height. Don't have to strech over the guitar body and strings a lot easier on the wrist.

Yeah my right shoulder did that same thing - I think it is time for me to get a thinner guitar. Been strumming hard on jumbos for way too long!

@vidiotxerox I just shot a review for the Washburn wcg18ce in their Comfort Series. Has a thinner contoured body like an electric! Sounds OK acoustically and great though a PA. Probably get one as soon as I sell the 3 acoustics I currently don't play. I'll post it in a day or two.

Hello..! Thank you for the wonderful video..! I'm from Greece... 25 years old... I'am playing the classical guitar for over 15 years now and I recently (last 2-3 years) noticed that my right shoulder is stuck in this forward position that you mentioned in your video, causing me back pain and other posture and movement problems... Please tell me what exactly did you do to fix it..? I have tried everything but nothing worked for me... I exercise, I strengthen my muscles, I do stretches and I'am trying to keep an as straight posture as possible when playing, but my shoulder blade has not moved backwards yet and stays stuck in this awful forward position... I have also done some physiotherapy (I am also studying physiotherapy now) but nothing and none have given me an effective solution... I have also practised many dance techniques so I have a very good sense of movement and body... I am pretty sure the problem is in my pectoralis minor that is tightened and shortened since I was very young... Please I desperately need to find a solution for my problem... Any advice from you and from anyone else or any contact information for someone who might be able to help me would be much much appreciated... Thank you a lot..! Keep up the good work because very very few are really aware of what happens with the wrong guitar posture..! Physiotherapists and other health "professionals" in Greece were even unable to understand what I was telling them and thought I was crazy... But I know I am not... I will be waiting for your response..! Thank you...!!!

I have been having the strumming shoulder issue you mentioned for a while since damaging my shoulder while lifting my disabled son. I was playing a classical acoustic and recently bought a concert size guitar to help with that issue. But i think i may need to go to something like the yamaha apx600 for the smaller and thinner body. A real shame as they tend to be quite thin sounding. I also have been thinking I may practice more on my Les Paul type electric so I am not hurting it all the time. Hmm getting old is annoying at 50 and trying to learn guitar.
