i still don't understand why we don't see Hilary Swank anymore in great roles, she's definitely the best actress of her generation along with Kate Winslet

One of my favorite scenes from this excellent film.
Ms. Swank deserved that Oscar just for this scene alone.

It's not a shame, that's the part that makes the film a masterpiece & real and really makes you appreciate the journey that the heroine was through and how much it meant for her, it sets the film apart from all the other goody-good, cliched applause, uplifting epic music, hands-raised-high in the air endings to a fighting movie. Positive endings don't teach you jack shit, bitter-sweet endings like this one (even though the taste by the end is quite bitter) teach you the value and the price of things.

Exceptional film. So many important values in life are addressed. Clint kicks the Hollywood jargon to the curb, and stays true to his simple yet poignant vision. Hillary had me in tears. Just beautiful to her soul...

"If I was thinking straight I'd go back home, find me a used trialer, buy me a deep fryer and some Oreos. Problem is this is the only thing I ever felt good doing. If I'm too old for this then I got nothing. That enough truth to suit you?" That part of this scene makes eyes well up every single time.

I purchased both the medium ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfh2XUOHWYHKQYOvSq2gZ6PyCmVkTFGWz and small speed bags from Meister. I'm very glad I got both as the workout is quite different from the two. The small is fantastic for getting your speed built up once familiar with your striking. The medium bag provides a considerable amount more resistance building more strength in your punches. I highly recommend both sizes. Some people have expressed concern over the latex bladder leaking down more frequently than the traditional rubber. I have not found this to be an issue at all.

On a whim I started watching this movie again on Netflix, and when Maggie tells Frankie about her family, and how she's got nothin without boxing, my eyes welled up in tears. It's a powerful scene, my favorite. Not sure I can watch the ending again, it was crushing the first time.

I watched the movie first time just after its release. I cried. I watched it 3 more times and cried again. I never cry at movies. I want to watch it again but it is not available on Netflix or Prime video in India. Warner Bros won't accept any card except American ones.

It's amazing how Eastwood manages to give the best performances in all the films he is apart of even though his are the quietest performances of each movie. A lesson for modern cinema: quiet underplayed subtley is superior to loud method flash.

The part in the movie were Frankie comes back home after his hospital visit with Maggie and finds another return to sender letter from his daughter and see in his face how as Scrap put it, “has nothing left in him.” Clint Eastwood should have won Best Actor for this role.

What a horrible family she had. What kind of a woman would pretend her dead child is still alive just for money? And the way they all treat her later on. First ungrateful, then neglectful, and finally selfish. Maggie deserved a lot better.

First time I saw the movie was on Italian television, dubbed into Italian.
(Fortunately there was closed-captioning; I read Italian even if I can't speak it.)
    Cried like a baby.
Wasn't until I saw it in English that I realized it was the Morgan Freeman character doing the voiceover. :-)
But it really didn't matter. Powerful movie. Eastwood rules. I will cry (again) when we lose him.
(Assuming my liver doesn't get me first.)

If this movie had been made in 2018, Hillary Swank's character would have marched outside the gym with a pick-it sign that said "The trainer is a mysogynist who refuses to train women." BuzzFeed would have had a field day with it. The gym would close. She never becomes a champ. The end.

Eastwood blew all the critics away and doubters away by this acting performance and directing this empowering movie.
