Absolutely bs. I work in the area and it was my favorite place to sit and have my morning coffee. It’s such a shame that the city removed them!

When the citizens say it because of homeless and the city council says it’s not, who are you going to believe? I’ll go with “The People”.

The mayor's simple-minded solution to "people smoking, drinking and taking drugs" is to remove the benches? Nonsense. People won't do those things without benches? The people this really impacts are the locals who show up regularly. I am 75 year old long time resident in the area, with a bum knee. I am the kind of person most impacted by this action. I would suggest that the mayor, if he is so concerned about homelessness, turn his attention to real solutions, not symbolic gestures that change nothing.

Yeah it make me laugh that they claimed it to be because of people drinking and doing drugs.
Especially because just 4 days ago, I had to talk one of the locals I’ve known for years into putting his handle of whiskey away if he’s going to be walking around the park drunk, then a kid on a bike who claimed to be 15 informed me that the friend of the drunk guy asked him if he had any meth… if only those 4 remaining benches weren’t there, that wouldn’t have happened, right? Hahaha

This whole thing smacks of poor leadership and lack of public trust. Kranz was all over the place in his contradictory statement and explanation about why the benches were removed. First, he started with alleged public complaints about "behaviors" of certain people (drinking, smoking, drugs, etc.), then he says the benches needed to be cleaned. Then, he tries to justify the decision by comparing other beaches that don't have benches. Then he says they want to restore the benches so people can be comfortable and enjoy the scenery there. Okay, if that's the case, then why the hell didn't they just leave the benches alone? Who would trust him (or the entire city council, for that matter), after a decision like this?

They'll probably be replaced with anti-homeless benches known as hostile architecture.

Sounds like the mayor doesn’t want to deal with the real problem. Arrest and support the PD! Must be a woke mayor.

The city has absolutely no say.
Access to beaches are protected by
The state constitution. Under harbor frontage s.
The people have (free). Liberal access
Which. No. Corporation. Or. Private person can block.

The city of Encinitas has made a point to make sure tourists don't feel welcome, good job, also thanks for treating locals like crap. Dear City, taking away benches locals and tourists enjoy sends a negative message. Therefore, here's a negative message for you. I promise not to enjoy your town, I'm not going to buy my usual coffee and stroll by your precious beach. Hope the homeless sleep in your cars. Happy Holidays to The City of Encinitas!

Bums dont sleep on benches anymore. They have full 600 sq ft tents running stolen electricity blocking paths and sidewalks.

Help solve the homelessness and crime problems or remove the benches? Move the benches, pick up your paycheck, and go home. Thanks, local leaders! Keep your eyes open for the Common Sense Party, the California Forward Party and any other Independent or third party candidates in the future, Californians.

The homeless don't sleep on benches it's too hard on their back. The homeless are too high & mighty for that. Now they have a nice flat ground to sleep on. Ha ha.
