I can say about Kaiserslautern. According to my experience, private accommodation was expensive than the student dorm ☀️

It is explicitly mentioned in studierendenwerk KL website application form, not to not use Gmail ID.
Students sometimes don’t receive the monthly confirmation mail otherwise✨
