  • These hairy Star Wars aliens are always a favorite, despite their terrible history under the Empire and they share a deep connection with their homeworld, more so than, you know, living on it.
    The Wookiees are awesome. i hope you agree, you don't want to disagree with a Wookiee. Also, did you know Wookiee was spelt with two "E"s? I didn't for the longest time.
    Also Kashyyyk is three "Y"s.
    And don't even try to speak Shyriiwook. It's real harsh.
    This is the Cultural Index a series aimed at exploring various Science-Fiction species.
    For outsiders to a series to get to know the basics and maybe even hardened Sci-fi nuts might discover something new.
    Thanks for watching!
    How to VOTE on what happens next:
    Down below in the comments are two choices of topics left by me.

    Apart from the obvious differences, wookie society reminds me of my own people, Māori. Tribal warriors living in balance and harmony with nature. Fierce reputation, tribal/family loyalty, honor systems, even exploitation by other races etc.

    • @tommyfox854
      @tommyfox854 2 года назад +1

      If you don't mind me asking; could you teach me a thing or two about your people? I'm just curios (and want to know more about the humans that're left out of the US classes, as in to say anyone that that either isn't us or someone we've clobbered in the past), that's all.

    • @comylare6879
      @comylare6879 2 года назад +2

      @@tommyfox854 sure! We greet eachother formally by pressing our noses together in what's called a hongi (hoh-ngee) - it symbolizes the breath of life given to the first woman, who was shaped from the earth.
      We traditionally cook our food using hot river rocks in the ground in pits or in natural hot springs.
      We traditionally have facial tattoos called ta moko (tah-moh-kor) which were heavily supressed post colonization but are now making a big come back as is our language which was also nearly lost... actually nearly our whole culture was lost but is now beginning to thrive again.
      😊😊

    • @tommyfox854
      @tommyfox854 2 года назад

      @@comylare6879 fascinating, thanks for sharing Comy. =)
      I found the hongi cute (sorry if that was rude), the cooking on hot springs rocks sounds wonderful (and make the meal tastier than what we eat here in the USA) and the tamoko seems like a fun thing to have. And I know I can't speak on behave of every white person on the planet but for those I can; I am *SO* sorry our ancestors had desiccated your people and way of life countless moons ago.
      Um, would it be alright if you can tell me a bit more? I know this is a sudden tone change but-, I don't know how to defend that.

    • @comylare6879
      @comylare6879 2 года назад +1

      @@tommyfox854 Haha you may get away with calling the hongi cute around some Māori but others might take offence and you'll probably find even more take offence as reffering to tā moko as something fun to have.
      Family and spirituality underpin nearly everything in Māori culture and tā moko are tapu (tah-poo) - sacred. They tell the story of who we are and where we came from.
      They were my ancestors to. Pretty directly actually as I'm half British actually though I've never been to Britain or really identify with the culture to much - though I have a soft spot for medieval history.
      Sure - going off tā moko we use whakapapa (fah-kah-pah-pah) - genealogy to explain who we are and our place in the world. For lots of us we know our ancestors going back hundreds and hundreds of years. Some of us - like me have whakapapa that started with a God or other deity like the Patupaiarehe (pah-too-pie-ah-reh-heh don't forget to roll the r) which are mythical beings, or not depending on what you believe, that can transform into mist. The tribes that whakapapa to them refer to themselves as Children of the Mist. The God I whakapapa to is called Pūhaorangi (poo-how-rah-ngi) who had a child with a human, my ancestor, and was the God of celestial knowledge.
      And keeping on with the myth and legends - one of most famous mythological characters, Maui (mao-ee) who I shit you not I also whakapapa to, was sort of like a good natured Loki and eventually died after trying to crawl up the Goddess of Deaths vagina after transforming into a worm after she realized and crushed him to death with her vagina which also had teeth.
      We have no hell, only an afterlife and the Goddess of Death takes especially good care of children. She's nice unless your trying to crawl up her vagina to steal immortality which is what Maui was after.

      @@comylare6879 Oh, I didn't know it was rude, I'm sorry; and sorry for thinking the tamoko was something fun to have.
      I can't think of anything else to say (mostly because I woke up at 5:30 in the morning, US east Atlantic cost time and barely awake) but I'll continue talking to you when I can. And, again, thanks for telling me some of your peoples' culture.

  • @deathstrike

    There are a few minor inaccuracies but not by the fault of the content creator. They are only briefly mentioned. One: they are not native to Kashykk they are said to be a transplant from elsewhere. Two: In other sources, they are "possibly" a creation of the Rakata and their hideous genetic experiments. They did them due to their loss of connection to the force and were creating other creatures to test their connection. Them and the Infinite Empire died out before they could solve the mystery. The Wookies actually have a great deal of culture and sophistication and even have a senator that led from Coruscant and could speak basic nearly fluent. As for Chewbacca, he didn't care to speak basic as Han knew his language and translators easily could "get the point across".

    I don’t know the origin, but Wookiees and Trandoshans have an intense hatred of one another. It doesn’t help that Trandoshans are pretty brutal toward Wookiees. One Trandoshan was so horrific toward Wookiees that even his fellows were creeped out by him.
