I've seen this video a while back, but this appears to have an awesome new intro. Well done Rick (and whomever else). Always a fan.
Thanks Jeff, great to hear from you! My daughter is studying digital animation in high school, and I hired her to put that intro section together. I'll be using it in other videos too. More coming up soon I hope
Thanks for sharing the new video
It's always a pleasure. Hard for me sometimes to make the time to create them. But I love every minute of it, and love the ongoing responses and discussions. Send comments any time. I don't know if you're referring to this one, but I did just publish a new Chinese chess video tonight ruclips.net/video/kSL7JErRMx8/видео.html
Very cool! Thank you.
Thanks for the great comment -- send thoughts or questions any time

Hey Rick, I found something, that might be interesting for you. I just discovered, that there was a game called Wehrschach or Tak Tic. It was invented during the 2. WW in Germany. Maybe you know this game already but for me it’s new. Regards from Germany
Hello, excellent video. There will be new videos of chess variants?
Thanks for your message.
Yes, I will have to make more videos.
The videos I made previously are here ancientchess.com/page/videos.htm
Are there DIY molds?
Just a tremendous video! What a fascinating history lesson. Loved it. Rick (who better to ask this to?) do you have a favorite iteration of chess, or perhaps a couple-three at the very top? (Shogi? European? Xiangqi? A more modern variant? Etc.) I'd love to know!
Thanks for asking. These days, I'm particularly fond of shogi. It's so complex, it always gives you a lot to think about, and it is hard to say what the best moves are -- there is so much to consider!
But I do like the other variants very much. During the first part of the pandemic, I spent many hours watching Cambodian chess games (search Khmer chess on RUclips). Although it seems like a simple chess to get started, the middle games and endgames are complicated in ways unimaginable in other variants.
@@rickknowlton9990 Thank you, sir. Do you also have a fondness for the game of Go by chance?
@@pnutbutrncrackers Yes! I know very little of the complexities of the game, but I enjoy it very much.
Hello! i am a game designer currently trying to make (in simple terms) a chess variant. I would love your input and discussion.
Nice to hear from you, Ronald. Contact me through the 'contact' link at AncientChess.com and we'll be able to exchange email addresses
Inform me when there is more info plz thanks
@Robert Koch! do you have video of it or so ?
I have one too btw
@Robert Koch! i live in belgium.
You ?
Maybe we can talk on Facebook.
It is unlikely that our ideas are identical or even similar.
I do not steal ideas. Besides you have this conversation as proof we met.
If they are similar anyway we could join forces.
WHOA!! I never thought Game of the Generals is featured here on 5:20 . As a GG player, as we fondly call it here in the Philippines, I am amazed.
Yes! The book has a whole section on that family of games, a very interesting spin-off from the chess concept
When is the second part of the interview with Ed Trice coming out - covering the development of interest in Gothic Chess? 2nd part of ruclips.net/video/fa0qxN-5O1w/видео.html&ab_channel=AncientChess ? Yours sincerely!
👌👌👍👍
Thanks!
Excellent book!
Thanks Liz! You know, it's the book we wanted to have ... so we had to write it. Comment any time

My personal opinion: the music is annoying it would have been better without it. but I’m sure some people will feel differently.
... and then, you started thinking about adding something of value to this fascinating subject ...

Sometimes RUclips has translations. Sorry, I don't know how that works. Maybe some day.
