Hello everyone I hope you enjoy the video, the next one will be on the Tsar Bomba! Expect it in a couple of weeks!
Plainly Difficult I'm still amazed at that big bastard. Pretty much the pinnacle of human created destruction. .... Eh... Actually I'm sure we could top that... Shit...we kinda already have. That bomb doesn't stand a chance next to cigarettes
That'll be great.
Too bad you narrate these videos like their children's morning television.
Plainly Difficult you referred to it both as the three-legged Mare and three legged mule, which one is it?
@@aisforrebel9310 It was around for over a century, it probably had multiple nicknames
The fact that convicts were allowed to stop for one last drink gave rise to two sayings that are still popular today. "One for the road", and also "on the wagon". The later being due to the fact that once you were back on the wagon ... no more alcohol! I believe the Tottenham pub in Oxford Street was one of the more frequent stopping-off points.
Other expressions stem from public executions at Tyburn, such as "hangover" and "pulling one's leg."
Since you like to cover the more bizarre aspects of history, have you thought of doing a video about Holland's Leaguer?
This was a notorious fortified brothel in 17th century Southwark which boasted its own moat and drawbridge and which King's army laid siege to (yes really).
The story of how Bess Holland and her girls fought back was the subject of satirical books, a song and a play at the time which tell the story with great humour and irony.
Check it out!
I know this is an old comment but I'd be super interested in that.
"Strong evidence of malice in 7 to 14 yo". Toddlers be damned, allegedly
1600's: "If you continue to misbehave, you're going to be hung at Tyburn"
2000's: "If you continue to misbehave, I'm changing the wi-fi password"
It's crazy how many society's completely independent of one another became super into public execution as a form of public entertainment.
Had to get your kicks somehow in the olden days.
The history of hangings has always been tragically fascinating to me. Thanks for the video!
I remember this from a documentary. A man they interviewed about hanging said, "this tree could hang up to 20 people. 20 bodies swinging like suits in a wardrobe."
I connected this with the Poplar tree incident. Imagine if the army got tired of it and sent a team to cut down the Tyburn tree, with two platoons of soldiers as backup and a tank aiming at the junction because why not? :-D
Don't forget the Taikwondo commandos
Again another high quality, brilliant and interesting video. Would you be interested in making a video on "slip coaches", pretty much express trains ditching a single or multiple carriages (at speed!) to serve the smaller stops which were used on the UK rail network, almost unthinkable nowadays! Again another fantastic video
Wow I never heard of that! Thanks for the suggestion ill check it you!
Plainly Difficult thank you! However on inspection there isn't much info/sources about it and there are more topics worth covering.
Still love this channel.
Only found out after my little cousin was asking about it after watching a Thomas the tank engine episode that featured it, (I work on the railways, hence why he asked me if we still carried out such a practice) I thought it was a load of tosh but I was left dumbfounded when I actually looked it up.
"Smaller stations", "express trains"... yes, absolutely unthinkable in the UK nowadays!
SLIP
Hi Plainly Difficult. Can you do a video on The Dancing Plague of 1518? Its really intriguing.
Thanks for the suggestion
No, but your mom can.
Fuck off nobody shakes baby
@@hermeticxhaote4723 lol
Another great video. I am loving all the new material and regular uploads.
Thank you Tod glad your enjoying it!
Absolutly excellently executed channel you deserve way more subscribers
Thank you! Executed is the right word for this video XD
(starts playing "Hallow be Thy Name" from Iron Maiden)
I love it when a channel I sub to comments on another channel I sub to.
@@grindstone4910 im choosing to believe they both liked your comment, and i love that :)
Nice video dude, I was wondering where the history of Speakers Corner originated from, thanks for the explaination!
There is also a place of execution in the city of York called Tyburn , just outside the city walls opposite the Racecourse .
You forgot to mention that on the way to the gallows spectators would try to rip clothing and hair off the condemned, they'd also pull off three chunks of flesh with a pair of hot tongs..
What?!? You Brits are hardcore!
Citation needed?!
@@lutzderlurch7877 this is youtube comments not a doctoral thesis, if you want to know if it is true do a little research.
@@justindunlap1235 Oh, so spewing any odd claim about and taking it for gospel are totally fine, but questioning the truth of such a claim is not?
truth and reality are not and should not be reserved exclusively for scientific papers.
Btw, you owe me 500 bucks!
Great video. Dan Carlin did a podcast episode that touched on this subject recently called painfotainment. English capital history is very interesting.
Didnt know this place existed! Awesome video!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Ever heard of the Three Hundred and Thirty Five Years' War? It was an obscure 'conflict' that you might find interesting.
Dude! You sound just like Simon (From Neebsgaming)
Also your production quality is rapidly increasing I have to say I feel proud of You. You have come a long way from that currency video.
Thanks for the support!
That explains Garfield's hatred of mondays.
Schoolboy error:
People are hanged
Objects are hung
Nice vid ! would love to see one of the Sweden Denmark war or about the tower of London.
Thanks for the comment and the suggestion!
Another excellent video!
Thank you glad you enjoyed the video!
Who says our ancestors couldn't have a good time??? Party on England!!
What do you think about the recent banning of certain people that wanted to speak at Speaker's Corner?
i really thought you had a bigger audience, you definitely deserve one! love the videos
6:55 Looks like the U.K. has not changed much after all
XD!
Part and parcel
Very nice, thank you
Well....I guess I could add that to the wishlist place to visit in London
Here is a great video idea. When the USSR wanted to keep importing Pepsi into its territory but the previous deal of exchanging pepsi for vodka outpaced itself. In 1989, Pepsico was given a fleet of 17 diesel submarines, a cruiser, a frigate and a destroyer as compensation for over a billion servings of pepsi. This was because pepsi couldn’t be paid in the Russian rubble because it was worthless outside of the USSR. The deal made Pepsico the 7th largest naval power in the world for a brief time.
Man, the Coke Wars of the 80's could have got really serious if the Chinese had a taste for the stuff with the red label.
The first execution was for TREEson!
That triple tree is so much more intimidating than the old American Western long fall gallows
I'll be honest, as an Englishman I want capitol punishment back. Our MPs told us a life sentence would mean life but that simply is not the case with early release, time served etc. Still though, great video. Love that bit on the road to the scaffold. "Being out at night with a blackened face." See. Even a bunch of 18th century Victorians disliked blackface tehe.
Great video
Thanks Joe!!
Can you do a video on how the Germans secretly invaded Greenland in ww2
Evan Kemp
Not much of a secret ;p
New meaning to hating Monday
This reminds of the old English folk song ’Tyne of Harrow’.(The Peter Bellamy version is my favourite)
Remember me when you get 1 million subs!
Excellent video!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Goodness some of the hangable offenses at 6:57 are ridiculously in any context.
Nice they got to drink before hanging out.
"Strong evidence of malice in children 7 to 14 years old" We need this back today!
Laundry is hung, people are hanged.
"Strong evidence of malice in children aged 7 to 14 years old"
Please do a video on Franz Schmidt!
Lol
My video froze at "strange places"
I was like ...
The "Tyburn Jig", similarly named the 'Spandau Ballet" in Germany.
You should review Bikini Atoll
Fascinating info....I never knew the origin of Speaker's Corner. One more way in which my English teacher failed me, I guess (Continental here!)...I'll be going on a trip to London in March, actually! Maybe I'll check that site out?
Actually the name speakers corner comes from a small hi-fi shop nearby.
Just around the corner in fact..
funny, today the english have lost all fredom of speech and expression whilst even those who where to be hanged used to have it
bin that knife
I was gonna say you're wrong then realised you're right. Nobody's allowed to say anything against Brexit now.
Tommy Robinson
This is only a temporary abberation, better days will come
This is also where the term "hungover" comes from, the massive crowds quiet enjoyed drinking!
Some quick reading found your assumption, to be categorically false.
it took 20 mins. for the hanged to die, thats where the old saying "pulling my leg" came from, family would pull on the hanged persons leg trying to make the death faster
Fun party p.s. great video
Thanks Stefan!!
"Being in the company of gypsies",,,for a month? How the hell do they work that out?
How about doing a segment about FDR's secret elevator at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
Hey have you heard of Banjawarn Station?? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banjawarn_Station
that could maybe make a cool video
Heres a bloodless battle,
The Mass Surrender of German Troops to the 347th Infantry Regiment,
When 3 Americans convinced a battalion of German troops during WW2 to surrender
Meanwhile, in America, people kept up public tree (real trees) hangings until just a few decades ago.
😐
*USA
Stupid idiot.
BATTLEFIEEEEEEEEEEELD!!!!!!!!!
don't know that just felt neccessary at the time
XD!
Is that why it is called treason?
I really do enjoy finding brits on youtube
Civilized? No, we are sick. Blood and gore, that is what we like. The more ghastly, the better.
monsters.
Yeah when the death penalty comes back we'll use good, reliable firing squads.
Eye for an eye, tree for trea-son
Treeson, I tree what you did there.
Candlemass - At the Gallows End
"'Strong evidence of malice' in children seven to 14 years old." Are you telling me they would hang children?
oh, sure they did (not only in England, but in many countries)
@@domundtgregor6683 Ah, the good old days...
First time I've heard about the tree. And how it relates to Speaker's Corner. Is this what that American President meant by blood of patriots and the tree of liberty?
Mmmmm, no not what he meant at all.
Well, it's so empty
during the reign of henry v111,about 10,000 people were hanged yearly...
That seems like a not-so-bad way of death.
I guess you missed the part where he said it could take up to 20 minutes to die.
My ancestor planted the tree and it where a tree but invisible
I see this video has nothing to do with Arbor Day.
RIP zephyr
England apparent always had inappropriate attitudes about those considered guilty.
And the US takes it to a new, barbaric level.
How many people altogether were hanged there you think?
It's a shame Marx and Lenin weren't made to do the Tyburn Jig.
Are we going to see the face? Ever? At 30,000?
Maybe at 100k 😅
Yo is this where bar runs come from?
Tyburn reminds me of Helgen... :{
Nice
More!
Good vid, but can you slow the commentary a bit .
Take a pause, in and out.
Back when human rights didn’t exist .
"Back"? "Didn't"?
"Human rights are for Human beings." - Gene Hunt
DONT FORGET TO MENTION THE DOME
7:15 *no actual footage ;-)
Honestly sounds more humane then what we do now. Let them go out with a good time.
I'm not sure taking 20 minutes to die should be considered humane.
Wanna go to the execution tonight? We can stop at Burger King on the way!
sad that freedom of speech isnt allowed in the UK anymore. To be fair though i suspect that for hundreds of years what the English thought was freedom of speech was just as tightly controlled as it is today.
well if I would have been around in them days I would most certainly finished up on the end of a rope just for doing what I did for a living. . unlicensed street trader or so they said google. Tony Hawkins retired pedlar. my fight to live
Shame the gallows were gone when Lenin was there
MegaRadomstuff IKR, could have hung some filthy boug
Mr. Snrub LOL
MegaRadomstuff You’re a fool if you demonize Lenin or Trotsky and don’t realize Stalin was the maniac.

VIDEO ON FLAT EARTH. IT'S A STRANGE PLACE WE LIVE ON ON THE FLAT PLAIN
Plain? You mean Plane, as in horizontal / flat surface. Plain refers to a geographic land mass of one elevation, even flat earth mongs believe mountains exist...change your name to Barry Bellend.
*PIN THIS COMMENT*
Great content btw.
Thank you!
Great video.
I find some Irony in history.
For most of history executions were performed on innocents, scape goats, some guilty, and political threats, and godless atheist heathens like I.
Now, death penalty repealed, the surely guilty who rape n murder children or prostitutes or they’re family....
A life sentence,
mandatory therapy (work out those bad dreams)
food,
shelter,
education,
visitation,
entertainment.
Somehow we’re enlightened and they were barbaric tho.
I must be the idiot missing what’s there to behold.
(False racist and bigoted sentences not withstanding here in America, n probably over there to... lol)
Solve prison overcrowding and plant another Tyburn Tree for heinous criminals - I`ll watch on You Tube! Sha me on Do-gooders.
Too bad the tree wasn't there for Marx and Lenin.
