If it wasnt for Dazai I’d argue he is seriously the strongest character in the entire show so far
I love the fact that Chuuya said if Dazai cancels his ability out, he wins but if doesn’t and loses control of his ability, he loses. Homie had so much faith in Dazai that he was willing to risk his whole body just to save him and basically all of Yokohama.
Chuuya is the greatest bad-ass in the series. I tend to like the Port Mafia more though.... so that might explain part of it.

I know many people say a reason BSD isn't good cuz Atsushi isn't exactly the best MC, but think if badass characters like Chuuya was the MC, I think the hype we have now will be less than current. I think the best thing about BSD is having a weak MC and badass supporting roles. That's why we want to see more of the anime. This is my opinion tho.
Atsushi is not weak wtf. Any normal human would react exactly how he did in the situations he s placed in. I think you mean he is the most relatable.
He isn't trained I combat like the other supposedly badass characters , I think the fact that he still fights makes him the most badass.

the prologue of Dead Apple was the Dragon Head’s Conflict though it hasn’t been explained much but it seems straight forward which is why i think it’s only short since we’re only viewing from the side of the mafia (most likely in Chuuya’s POV), unless Asagiri will release another light novel entirely about it or will reveal in the main story someday.
*[correction of this paragraph in my next reply]*
The Dragon Head’s Conflict was an 88-day war of Yokohama’s underground organizations which included the Port Mafia. Chuuya was fresh off of the painful events in Storm Bringer. The 6 friends of Chuuya that he mentioned already died in Storm Bringer but weren’t killed by Shibusawa- so I think he was talking about Verlaine. [idk how this is related to his anger towards Ango tbh but perhaps it could be a misunderstanding since he’s quite the hot-head and is compassionate when things are about his comrades 😅]
But in the prologue where Chuuya just activated corruption on his own, i think, was for his other comrades that were killed by Shibusawa’s fog. I think those comrades were the ones who helped him in Storm Bringer- since they mentioned about the Colonel and he was in Storm Bringer. It also showed at some point that Dazai was also mad at Shibusawa for killing one of their respected executives but idk if the game is part of the canon since the manga hasn’t showed that part of Dazai yet but maybe it’ll eventually come in Dazai & Shibusawa’s conversation... i just read this in BSD Mayoi / BSD Tales of the Lost, the gacha game.
I just realized this after rewatching the film, it seems like it was also around the time of the Dragon Head’s Conflict when young Atsushi killed Shibusawa, considering their 4 year gap with Dazai. Or perhaps days or weeks after that incident since the orphanage wasn’t in Yokohama and Shibusawa forgot his life, which is why he was collecting abilities through the fog searching for why he’s existing, until Fyodor revived him with a fragment of a certain crystallized ability stone.
In the movie, Chuuya explained how the Special Division for Ability Users/Unusual Powers/The Gifted (the government division where Ango works for) hired Shibusawa to walk around Yokohama during the Dragon Head’s Conflict with the intention to end the days long organizational war but everyone knew Shibusawa didn’t intend to follow. Cut to the scene right before Chuuya jumps out of the plane, Ango reminded him about the possibility of Dazai (who only can neutralize him) being actually dead at that moment- implying that this could be a suicide mission for Chuuya. Chuuya pointed out how Ango was the only person who opposed to the idea of employing Shibusawa years ago- which may imply that Chuuya forgives him.

Honestly,I can't describe how much I loved his scene. How much I love this theme.And how much did I start shipping Soukoku when I first saw it,and actually I saw Dead Apple BEFORE the first episode of BSD after coming across it on YT. So the first time I've watched it I had NO IDEA what the actually flying duck is going on but I loved it
And then I watched BSD.
