I've had the unit for a few years now, I had no idea how to use it. Setting custom scales is right up my alley, so thank you for this. I felt really trapped in just chromatic but knowing you can change the settings in the Roli software is amazing.
SO well presented - organized, concise, informative and entertaining...........so happy to have found this. It's miles above so many of the other Block uploads I've seen on YT.........
.....and I'd love to see any videos you have re: using the Lightblock as a MIDI controller, for a hardware synth.......as I know it's capable of that (with the right interface - like a Kenton) and that's what I'm hoping to use one for.....
Pretty cool. I saw that there's a small kit for $599.00 that gives you a short roli seaboard, a block module and some controller module. Not sure if it is as good of a value as the MK3, but looks tempting.
I think one of the biggies from that kit is that it also includes the full version of Equator, whereas you only get the player software if you get it individually.
My only problem with this lightpad is the size (too small) and it transmits and records way too much midi information for using it as a everyday controller. Can functions like glide, slide and lift be muted in the dashboard?
Yo accurate can you do a vid on layering Drum sounds thanks if you have a maschine studio to do it on that's great if not I will apply the same concepts from the mk3 thanks again
For sure, I would even buy it with more emphasis nowadays. Considering how useful these can be and the sadness that it has been discontinued. I could have used 3 for real - unfortunately only had the time to get two, including one of the first gen which was kinda sh…. Good for CC stuff though, not for much else. The issue with this Roli suite of controllers (IMO) is just how bad they are for mobile production (what I got it for). It’s like the perfect device but the software is so bad the minute you separate it from it, it becomes like 10 times less versatile. I program, so I usually just intercept the midi with an app like mozaic which then let’s me do what I want with it - but regardless, it is a pain to deal with that. Honestly, this brand wouldn’t have failed if it weren’t for the terrible software it was accompanied with; yes, Equator is amazing… but it’s not on iOS, so for a device meant to be used “on the go”, it’s kinda useless to have it. Considering the Roli app on phones and tablets is legit a toy app that is practically useless, and won’t even let you “save changes” to your layout when you plug in the controller…. Yeah, in essence, great hardware… terrible software. Can be “hacked” though, which is why I would buy another one (and I don’t meant a literal hack, just like “hacking into the midi” as previously described).
Sir, I've a question. That is when i use the note grid like you, there is no response and signal coming from logic. But when I switch to control grid, it does have response of sound. Why?
Sounds like something might be wrong in the midi setup of the lightpad? Have you checked the settings in the software thingie? It might send midi on the wrong midi channel?
I was interested in the roli blocks, but then I read that they only work on Apple devices... Even though they supposedly support Windows, there are so many comments about them not working properly
I'm pretty sure it's a class compliant MIDI device. Maybe people are just stupid. Or... They're using Ableton which doesn't support MPE on either PC or Mac.
indeed, i think its retarded how high priced it is and maybe its oke for when you are performing live so it might look cool but for the beginner i think this thing is just a joke.

Can you use the scale mode and lightpad to control other plugins?
Thanks! Really helpful!!
Respect man 😊
I'm definitely getting this! I'm already thinking of using this with Serato Sample! 👌🏿
Check out Pluginguru's "UNIFY" to use with it in the 4 CC fader mode...
thx for review

Thats Great!
It has games that’s crazy 😂
Great video man !
Cool toy! Nice vid 👊
Is it working over Bluetooth with the MPC Live?

It’s cheaper if you buy those there separate!!!
They throw in the case at a discount to get it to $599!

Can you change octaves when using the 4 drum pads mode?
Awesome tutorial. AB's - thanks ;).
Hope you are feeling well!
Thanks for the fine video....One question....How many scale modes are in the Lightpad? Thanks :)))
good job using the "five dimensions" buzzphrase the designated number of times
Useful vid, thanks
Cool concept but i looks a little bit laggy
Yeah, I see how you might get that idea from this video... I made a mistake when I was syncing some of the audio and the video for this upload.
My only problem with this lightpad is the size (too small) and it transmits and records way too much midi information for using it as a everyday controller. Can functions like glide, slide and lift be muted in the dashboard?
mattsynth yeah mate, you can turn on keyboard mode which will remove all of the MPE stuff
Hey dude, is that Nick Batt’s voice on your name blurb/animation? I swear it sounds like him (:
Yo accurate can you do a vid on layering Drum sounds thanks if you have a maschine studio to do it on that's great if not I will apply the same concepts from the mk3 thanks again
Hey, you never know! I might find the time for small videos like that over the summer... I can't promise anything but... Maybe ;)
would you still buying or recommend buying a roli lightpad in 2022?
For sure, I would even buy it with more emphasis nowadays. Considering how useful these can be and the sadness that it has been discontinued.

sounds are coming from your computer speakers correct?

Accurate Beats not sure , when I press a chord , the chord display does repond , but the instruments didn't have respond in sound
Accurate Beats the setup is like your in the video
Curse you Accurate! Now I want a couple of these!
Actually got a used first gen on eBay for not much. We shall see.
Haha! That’s right! You can really find them for a nice price if you look around online.
No Android support??
I was interested in the roli blocks, but then I read that they only work on Apple devices... Even though they supposedly support Windows, there are so many comments about them not working properly
yea, its because apple people are used to being ripped off with high priced goods... so i cant blame them for locking into that crowd.
I'm pretty sure it's a class compliant MIDI device. Maybe people are just stupid. Or... They're using Ableton which doesn't support MPE on either PC or Mac.
DickBurns ableton does support it with the roli. If you just use a utility script
I use it on Windows with Equator, Strobe and Reaper; works perfectly fine
Did you ever find out a good integration with Maschine Mk3?
not working on android ?
Check out "UNIFY" by Pluginguru, it can use the 4 MIDI CC fader mode... besides being an awesome value.
Its a very good concept but in my opinion its too expensive if they would make it cheaper i would buy it.
indeed, i think its retarded how high priced it is and maybe its oke for when you are performing live so it might look cool but for the beginner i think this thing is just a joke.
seaboard rise is £600
idk how it is cheap it is like £100
You sound very depressed
Thanks! Very Nice and helpful!
