Finally installed my 20x10' motorized awning. Took my time during assembly process and asked 3 people with 3 ladders one weekend to help me put it up. I would say total weight is about 170lbs. As long as its done with no shortcuts it should be fine. Found out that the motor was bad when I put it up but Aleko customer service was very helpful during my calls with them and warranty replacement was shipped to me in no time. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and customer support.

Ok. So I installed my 20 foot awning last year. Immediately realized that the four brackets provided were under too much stress and weren’t enough. I stopped.. took down the awning and ordered 4 more. With 8 total mounted into studs behind my vinyl siding it was fine. Make sure they are PERFECTLY aligned horizontally AND the depth. They don’t provide any kind of fasteners for wood so I bought large bolts and used washers to adjust the alignment depth wise. All in all pretty labor intensive but a decent product for the money. Provides the shade we wanted and looks nice.

First and foremost, let me echo a number of the other comments made here.
HIRE A PROFESSIONAL TO CREATE YOUR ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION GUIDES !!
The video was okay but way too rushed to be of great value to Joe Consumer.
I'm three and a half hours in to assembly of a 10' x 13' manual retractable awning.
    Here's what I have discovered...
The holes pre-drilled on the Roller bar, Front bar and Torsion bar connectors aren't quite where they should be. The milling of the connector for the Roller Bar, specifically the fabric channel, is off just enough to prevent the easy feeding of the fabric through the two sections of the Roller bar. In fact, we had to disconnect the two Roller bar pieces, feed the fabric through then reconnect. When rolling the fabric on to the Roller bar, which way is counterclockwise ? When two people are standing one at each end of the Roller, counterclockwise is different for each !! Which way is the fabric supposed to come off the Roller, top or bottom ? That would be a better indicator of how to roll the fabric. Roller Support Assembly; where does it say to remove the right Roller Support to attach the Roller bar ? Became obvious soon enough. "Blocker", didn't come with this awning. Included were two molded plastic pieces, poorly molded pieces, which don't appear in a parts list or anywhere in the videos. Are these Blockers ? If so, how do they install ? "Arm-Bar Links", the washers provided are too big !! They don't fit in the channel of the Front bar, unless they are forced in with a persuader, which I wouldn't think you would recommend. Couldn't use them.
Gone as far as I can today. Actual installation to the house won't happen until I have additional help.
Oh yeah, I still have an 8' x 10' awning to assemble. Should be a piece of cake after today's learning experience.

Very complex assembly and when mounting extreme care must be taken to clear the tube assembly bolts from the mounting brackets. In other words the bolts that hold the bars together will not fit in the mounts. This was a big problem since I had a custom steel awning extension made and once holes are drilled it was difficult to cover them up. It required them to be welded and repainted. If some mention somewhere in the instructions was made this would have made things easier. Also the motor was very out of adjustment and required many, many turns of the red and white screws to set the extension and withdraw limits.

Finished installing the Aleko 12 x 10 motorized awing this morning. Here are my thoughts regarding assembly and installation.
First, spend a good amount of time looking at the parts diagram and familiarize yourself with all the parts. Watch the videos, but in the end, the instructions should be the default source. Assembly at times was challenging. The roller tube as an example was difficult to get together with the connecting tube. The fit of the parts was not quite there. It took some persuasion and perseverance at times to get parts to cooperate. Some areas of the instructions -- like where exactly do the 'blockers belong. Ours is working but I am still not sure that the blockers are in the correct spot. Other issues included trying to find instructions on left-side motor installation. The best we can figure doing a left-side installation means the motor cord will come off the top of the awning. Right-side will allow you to have the power cord come from the bottom of the motor -- You'll see what I mean when you get into the assembly. When installing the spline into the fabric something like an electrician's fish tape is a big help. Run the fish tape through the fabric where the spline is supposed to go and then pull the spline through. Will save you an hour in assembly!
Mounting on our house was a bit challenging but not the fault of the awning. We have vinyl siding where we wanted to mount the awning and one and a half inches of Styrofoam 'Cladmate' behind the siding. So for the lag screws to reach the interior studs, I had to devise a 'standoff' pipe so that the mounting brackets would not crush the siding and Cladmate insulation. A 1" diameter metal conduit cut to 1 7/8" in length allowed the brackets to standoff from the siding by 1/8" and using 5" lag screws secured the awning assembly to the house studs.
Overall assembly and installation happened over two days.
You will need two people minimum to do the assembly. A third person would be helpful when installing the fabric.
Bring your patience -- you'll need it.
Finally, the awning does look great. There are still some tweaks to do, but the results so far is a great looking and working awning.

Thanks for the detailed report. I have a few questions if you don’t mind....
      1) Can the motor be mounted on either end?
      2) I plan on attaching a 12’ ledger across the vinyl siding to attach to.
As the siding isn’t flat, what did you do to “level/flatten” the face of the vinyl siding?
      3) How much of the lag screw did you sink into the wall studs?
      4) I have to mount right above a door. The door extends 30” when fully open.
Would you possibly know how many inches the front of the awning has dropped at 30 inches out from wall?
      Thanks!!!!

    • @markbell1
      @markbell1 3 года назад +2

@@thistle4celtic1 hi. Yes the motor can be mounted at either end. Because we had Styrofoam cladmate behind our siding I made these 1 7/8” aluminum ‘strand offs” that actually protrude form the house about 1/8” to 1/4” away from the siding. The lag screws go through the awning brackets and through the stand offs and then into the wall studs. The awning doesn’t put any weight on the siding or classmate. It literally appears to float away from the siding. I didn’t want a visible ledger. The stand offs are made from 1” and 3/4” aluminum electricians pipe. Cut to the length needed. In my case I have 1 1/2” Cladmate on top of the framing. Then the Tyvek house wrap and then the siding. So my stand offs were cut at 1 7/8”. I put the 3/4” pipe inside the 1” pipe for strength and a big 1” washer on each end of the tube. The lag screw can pass through both washers so it can be screwed to the wall studs. Wish I could show you what I did and it would save you putting up a header.

Bought the half cartridge LED lighted model. Call Aleko and have them
send you their updated instructions. Not great but better than whats in
the box and includes missing information for the wireless remote. Be
warned the half-cartridge models are only left hand motor mount (their
literature and ads don't make this clear). In order to make ours a
right hand motor like we wanted the cartridge has to be machined
(cut) on the right hand side to match the factory provided cutout that
was on the left. The cut out provides access for the hand crank and the
motor stop adjustments. I did mine with a drill and hacksaw and cleaned
it up with a file. It also required me to thread the left hand end
cartridge cap to get the bracket to attach to it. I used a 7mm tap and
bought some hardware (2-7mm x 35mm bolts) to make it work. Some simple
photographs would have been so much more helpful than the printed
instruction. The modifications were not hard once I figured it all out
but a lot of wasted time for lack of good instructions. Overall appears
to be a good value for what you get as long as your prepared for the
assembly challenges and understand its not right hand drive without some

The support rollers that ship with Aleko awnings can no longer be installed after assembling the frame. The one pictured in the video has an open end allowing the support to be seated on the square frame after assembly. The one that shis now is plastic and has no open side, it has a square hole that must be slid onto the square frame before connecting sections. Its a pain in the ass. Install them first even though the instructions never mention them.

That is a lot of assembly, but I guess the fairly low cost justifies it.

I'm assembling my 12 x 10 motorized. The instructions are crap and this video isn't much better though it did help with the motor since there is nothing in the written instructions about it. Just got back from Lowe's to get some 1.0 mm x 40mm bolts and nuts to connect the motor to mount

  • @johnqsmith8174
    @johnqsmith8174 8 месяцев назад

They don’t tell you that when you put the roller together in those sections, good luck, sliding the cloth in there without ripping it, because it’s almost impossible to slide the cloth because it keeps getting caught on the sections very sharp corners

That fellow almost cut the awning with his utility knife. I would suggest putting the utility blade back in right after cutting.

Almost???? Who cares about "almost" He "Didn't cut the awning! There are unlimited "almosts" in anything we do. I used side cutters. No problem.

The answer to my problem is to train it up within 5 seconds. I didn't know this until I talked to someone from the company.

The weakness of this system is the center roller support. The little wheels wear the fabric and it eventually tears.

These instructions are awful. You should hire a professional company to do your videos instead of doing them in your back yard. Hours of frustration trying to get the motorized awning to work and still not working properly. Will probably return. I am pretty handy but this has been a nightmare. Bolts are all in tight spots, materials are questionable and the instructions are awful. Save yourself the heartache.

It's stuff like this that I am pissed about the removal of the dislike button. Bloody thing doesn't come with instructions, so I had to find it here--and yeah, they are shite.
Was almost as aggrevating as when we found that the center of the main fabric had been completely stitched--so we had to cut the threading piece in half and stick one piece in each end.

YEEESSSS. Let these guys know if their video is crap. Give them the thumbs down and don't watch the whole thing if you're confused in the 1st minute. These guys are working on pebbles with powder coated material. Very dumb. Sift through the videos in YT and find the best one or take little from all of them. Not one of these videos is 100% clear or complete.

I have been working on mine for over a week and it is still not finished, slow goes the race. I bought the 13x10 and the instructions are as clear as mud and the video went too fast so I played certain sections over and over again. I am 84 and so far I have been able to do all of it myself. I still am not sure how to do the spacers but maybe watching the video a few more times I will figure it out. I have neighbors to help when I get ready to hang it.

Your instructions both in the manual and here fail to note which side of the front arm bar the valence and main awning fabric goes into, this is a major issue due to making sure arm bar links are at the intended location. Please completely redo page 8 and 9 in the guide and this video to clarify these details.
One can watch the video to get an idea which side is for what. Also the paper manual is missing step 6, the entire step six. Goes from page 8 to 9, no step 6.
    Who TH created your manual.

Do not buy from them if you’re not 100% sure if you either want it, or, if it came in damaged. They are unfair and provide 3rd party deliveries only. Plus, keep the original packaging, or else, expect to pay a $200 custom sized box to send the product back, with an unpaid shipping label from the company, and a 50% restocking fee!
First of all, I was super excited about this product!! I threw away all the packaging in anticipation for putting it up and enjoying it. However! I purchased a 20-ft awning that didn’t have an updated instruction manual for it. My 20ft awning had 3-parts to it, while the book had instructions for a 2-part awning. The RUclips video was also the same as well - not updated. I followed the instructions CLOSELY - dotted my i’s, and crossed my t’s. When I got to the end of it, I noticed the middle bars attachment was too short to pass through (see pictures attached). I messaged the company about returning the product. I didn’t feel safe keeping the product because I would have to take everything apart in order to replace the new middle bar. Which meant, unscrewing, detaching, and potentially causing more damage to the awning. Aleko approved the return, however, I would have to pay for restocking fee, new packaging, and the shipping fees totaling up to $400. Mind you, this was not my fault, but they’re fault in packaging the wrong bar into the package.
They’ve offered the options of replacing the bar or replacing the bar with a $50 credit. However, Aleko refused a full refund or to ship a new set. AtoZ through Amazon was not helpful either. AtoZ denied my claim and wanted me to send the product back to get my refund only. It has been 2-months with no resolution. This process has been extremely difficult and unfair. Either way, I’m in a lose-lose situation. I would never recommend this product to anyone, nor will I buy from them ever again!
Ps, I took the product apart, very carefully, yet still created big holes where the nails were drilled in for securement, it was extremely difficult to take the bars apart from the aluminum pieces as well. I hate it! Worst decision ever!

Terrible Instructions and lousy video. No mention that the motor needs to be installed on one side of the bar. Needed to take apart because motor will not line up on the other side. Also, check video time 4:03 and then 4:05. Somehow, the exposed nuts turn into flush bolt heads.

Verified purchaser, verified assembler. It’s too late to turn back now. All the boxes are opened and parts scattered everywhere. The first comment I must make is this. Either all the retractable awning manufactures must also have pathetic assembly instructions. And RUclips support videos made by the most incompetent composers. Or this Aleko company would have already been out of business. The printed instructions provided inside packages are disgusting. Images of parts on instructions do not match the parts provided in the box. Important steps are either omitted. Or they come along in the assembly process out of order. Causing one to disassemble to reassemble. There are parts in the box that are not even on the assembly paperwork. As far as the RUclips videos recommended by the technical support. They too are still missing steps. The parts shown being assembles in these videos actually change from one step to the next. Possible different product revisions of the units over the years. But why then in the same assembly video. It’s like you are being shown how to change a transmission on a 1965 F150. But then you are suddenly being shown how to do the next step on a 1985 F150. I purchased a motorized unit. There were zero instructions in any of the boxes on how to assemble that part of the process. And the RUclips video recommend by the technical support was one of those that changed parts being assembled along the way. It has you looking through all the parts provided tying to find these other parts. As they look like they would have worked better. Not sure which revision they were from. Not the one delivered to me. But more revisions are still definitely needed. How in the heck this happens is beyond me, I still managed to get the unit assembled in a day. And once one gets through it. It really pisses one off seeing how a set of clear and up to date instructions would made it a whole less frustration. And how it would have been so easy for the manufacturer to have provided that. It is like they want people to hire someone that has done it before. I pray to God it works now once I get it mounted on the house. And then lasts beyond the point where I forget how frustrating of an ordeal it was.
