Taper and fade mean the same thing. So saying a "taper fade" is like saying a fade fade or taper taper.... using the wrong terminology makes its tough for others in the profession.
No they don’t. It also depends on where you’re located, but the difference is that a fade is a blend all the way around the head while a taper is a blend that is sectioned on the sides and the back with a lineup separating it. A taper fade combines the two, you can see in the video that the fade is gradual throughout the whole head but it’s still separated from the sides and the back by that ear lineup

Shadow fade would be a taper using a half guard. This cut ppl usually call it a mid bald taper, blowout taper. Etc.

I've been thinking about a 1/8 taper with an Ive league haircut. O cut my own hair with an ivy league style and left the sides at 1/4. It's been 3 weeks, and I like it better than 000 taper or fade that used to get. Wonder if I can do 1/2 inch in the sides with a 1/8 taper. I want hair to look darker towards the back but still look clean front the front veiw, and the longer taper seems to be my answer.
