      Japan has a defense treaty since 1951 with the U.S. called the U.S.-Japan Mutual Security Treaty that says if Japan was declared war on then the U.S. will consider it as a declaration of war towards the U.S. as well. The Philippines took the same route as well, with the 1951 U.S.-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty saying the same thing. So if whether Japan or The Philippines were declared war on then it would be considered an attack against the U.S.

    Irks me when the news is about diverse and equality. I don't really care about the proportion of minorities, I care about the best person being selected for the job. First female finance minister might sound amazing but if she knows jack about the economy it's not going to look good for women is it? Ones sexuality really shouldn't be a brownie point when it comes to being selected either. I can assume that everyone picked is capable but I don't like the idea of someone being selected/past up just because of their sexuality or gender because diversity is somehow a metric that matters. Just because women make up about 50% doesn't mean they have to make up 50% of the cabinet although I'd be surprised if 0% were women by equal measure.

    • @Megan-ii4gf
      @Megan-ii4gf 4 месяца назад +7

      I think it's pretty obvious that if the cohort is within standard deviation of the population at large in terms of these identity characteristics... Then they probably ARE the best people for the job. It's absolutely stupid to think that men would be better at government, or white people would be better, or straight people... We're all created equal, and we all deserve the opportunity to succeed. The fact parliament is so close to matching the nation's demographics is testament to the meritocratic nature of Starmer's reforms... Unless you think a parliament dominated by men is "the best people for the job", and not flagrant cronyism between old Etonians and boy's-schoolers...

    • @TheAuscomando
      @TheAuscomando 4 месяца назад

      But, men and women don't prioritise the same occupations. Education, particularly with younger age brackets, is dominated by women. That's not because men can't teach young children or men are being discriminated against, it's because, for various biological and environmental reasons, men prioritise other occupations that allign more with their interests as a whole. The inverse is true for politics.
