- Today I’m joined by my buddy Cody D’Acquisto. Over the past few seasons Cody has evolved is approach to bowhunting…switching to traditional archery equipment, he’s always been one for unconventional low stand set ups…no camo and he’s done away with using trail cameras. He’s a dying breed of bowhunter who enjoys the harder things in life…whether it’s challenging hunts…or iron man style races he’s for sure a dying breed. Very inspiring podcast Clint! I'm self-taught and got started later in life. Public land only! Have had some encounters with some nice deer, but the description of your Kansas hunt wirh the giant gave me chills and I am ready to start traveling out of my home state of Michigan and getting some of those experiences! Bravo Cody! Many a hunter has hunted in army surplus wool with stick bows, lever action guns or muskets. Going old school is a positive move. You can read back issues of Outdoor Life from the 70s for some solid tips,
I grew up wearing my Dad's WW2 and Korean War US Army outdoor and winter gear. He was Ordnance Corp but picked up a WW2 enlisted crew B-17 flight suit with wool lining that kept you warm in below freezing weather. GI wool soc, gloves, field jacket all in the foot locker. I still have his Ike jacket with original SHAEF patch.
And, we all be going old school again so start learning how to make sticks and stones weapons, tools,
snares, tiger holes, animal hide clothing and tools, mfetc.
Great episode! Loved seeing Jujitsu being used as an example. I been studying jujitsu and fighting most of my life and Cody couldn’t be more correct. Keep killing it brother 🥋🦌🏹
really appreciated the section around 20 minutes what is the one thing that kills deer consistently. cody said make it your 1 priority. i'd also like to pair that with what cody's dad said a few weeks ago. he said "most of the killers he runs in to are all....very. hard. workers." priority + hard work .....
I am proud to say I have not pulled my muzzleloader or my rifle out this season. I've hunted about eighteen times with my bow.
Clint! Come up to 5C with me and help thwack coyotes. Last season this farm had 2. Last Saturday had 9 and now they’re reduced to 8 🤙 🏹 😂
A real dieing breed is the still hunter. There aren't many guys who actually practice woodsmanship and can put themselves where the deer are consistently regardless if they are in a tree or not.

Just not sure if Cody can relate to those who didn’t have thousands of acres of prime Iowa ground to hunt. Just cuz a person shoots trad and creates their own plaid wool line of clothes doesn’t make them know any about a dying breed, he’s on an ego trip. it’s all branding to make a sale.
I think we can agree he’s an incredibly hard worker right?
Whether that’s running a business
Whether that’s weight training
Whether that’s in the woods
You have to admire his work ethic?
I’ve listened to Cody several times on the pod and am sorry but he’s a rich kid who is working to convince people to buy his new clothing line. Dying breed? Not sure that’s the term I’d use. I heard him say he doesn’t think you need to train and shoot your bow before the season too and then talked about how he wounded or missed deer. Just like his clothing line, I’m not buying it.

I love the the different hunter's you have on and I listened to them all .. But man telling your same hunting stories over and over again is getting real old ! When you have guy's that know more shit then you please let them talk. I listened in on this podcast to hear how Cody was making out with Traditional gear and not a single word was mentioned ?

Haha, Cody rides off his dads cameras. He shoots trad, has a nose ring, an amish beard, my grandmothers hat..other than that he is just another bowhunter. Thats the end of story.
A dying breed of a bowhunter would be my Uncle Scott. Still hunting on the ground with his recurve on state land his entire life. Builds his own wood arrows. He owns a 160 acre farm in southern MN and doesn't even hunt it. But he's been planting all sorts of stuff for the wildlife to eat. I got a cell cam and put it back one of his thick treelines and showed him what was roaming around back there! He just scratched his head and went "yep, those cameras should be banned"... Instead of waiting for some buck to meander into a lush green food plot , he packs up his old ford ranger and drives about 2 hours to Southeast MN. Where his cabin sits on top of a bluff in hill country. His cabin is bordered next to a ton of state land. He's only ever shot 1 pope and younger in his lifetime, and it was 20 minutes after a bunch of mung squirrels hunters ran past him with shotguns. He's not like the younger generation like myself. He'll comment more on body size than the rack. Now that's the last of a dying breed.
@@mknight6556 Very few bowhunters back in the day made there own arrows. Also almost zero would not have hunted there own 160 and even old school bowhunter would climb a dead fall or build an old wood stand 5-8 ft up a tree. Your uncle sounds like a unique or eccentric bowhunter not a dying breed.
