“Natty Dread”, “Them Belly Full”, etc. Jamel could do a full year of Bob Marley, move on to Peter Tosh, Burning Spear and still have barely scratched the surface of great reggae. I would actually like to hear a review of Eek-a-mouse doing “Assassinator”
I don't know if this is a remaster gone wrong or a re-recording but this is not the version of Redemption Song I grew up listening to on the Uprising album. That song was a raw voice and a finger picked guitar, and did not have that instrumental layer. In the interest of keeping great music alive, please, please, please listen to the original version.

There’s no grit in it, which is something that makes his voice honest, haunting and real. Bob Marley...."Natural Mystic". The one song that encapsulates and delivers a message to the future. Of a man with a lion's heart with love for all looking at a plagued world, heart breaking and mystified at what he sees, and warning of things to come.
Bob Marley can touch your soul the way very few people can. No Woman No Cry was my introduction to his music, Wait in Vain is beautiful, so much wonderful music.
You'll love his "Could You Be Loved", "Three Little Birds", "Is This Love" and many more!!! His greatest hits album is appropriately named 'Legend'. Gone too soon. RIP Bob. from "Buffalo Soldier"🎵 fighting on arrival... fighting for survival🎵
Bob was and is the greatest. Love his philosophy, philanthropy and spirituality! Thanks for the review! Try more Bob such as War, No Woman No Cry, Could you be loved, Buffalo Soldier and many more

I’m a former nurse who trained with many Caribbean nurses in the UK. We lived in residence for the first year and the sound of good reggae, especially Bob Marley and Pete Tosh wafted through the hallways.
Always Beautiful!! The Live at the Stanley Theatre Pittsburg 9/23/80 version is Awesome and prob my fav version. It was Bob's last performance before he passed. RIP Bob Marley/Legend💛💚💔
Too soon taken. This world needs a messenger like him. We lost so much with his passing. But he lives on in the music and the message is still here for those who will listen. Straight from the spirit to the soul every time I hear his songs. Healing and uplifting. God love you Bob for all the blessings you brought to us.
This song was released after Bob Marley's death. He was an international superstar and sang for the oppressed,he was injured in an assasination attempt yet still performed that day to try to unite the people of Jamaica.
Living in Hawaii I hear this song at least once a week on the job site or on the drive home and it still retains all the spiritual power Good reaction.🤙
Never heard of Bob Marley (or did you Jamel?!?)? Boy, how the legends can fade... So glad you got this request as a way of intro to THE OG! btw, this version of Marley's Redemption is not the original studio version, but an "unplugged" variation.
It sounds like a very faithful cover to me. Look for the version from his 1980 album, Uprising! or the live version from the Stanley Theatre on 9/23/1980.
'Redemption Song" became the epitaph of Bob Marley -it was the last song he played live, in Pittsburgh PA, before going to Germany for his cancer treatment, which he did not survive. "Redemption" links the history of slavery, that brought his ancestors to Jamaica -and his faith in God, through the faith of Rastafari'. "Emacipate yourself, from mental slavery" The later covers by Johnny Cash, from later in his life, with Rick Rubin getting Cash back to his roots, but with some modern songs, and bluegrass, folk, and gospel. Joe Strummer's version is special -Joe, knew Bob in London, late 70's as he was in The Clash, and Bob and his band, The Wailers lived and recorded in London, for a time. Punk and Reggae were both "rebel music", and the musicians admired, hung out, recorded together. Marley and the Wailers recorded "Punky Reggae Party" which nods to The Clash, and others. The Clash did several Reggae and Ska tunes, inspired or cover's (Junior Murvin's "Police and thieves") like "Bank Robber" and "Armageddion Time". Joe S' and Mick Jones, main writers for The Clash went to Jamaica on vacation, in 1978, and with the hot weather, the obvious drugs, and the local gangster culture, where firearms were used in the streets (even Bob Marley was shot, driveway his home) the duo from The Clash returned to London to record "Safe European Home" about their experience of London vs' Kingston. Bob died to young, most of the original Wailers are passed (Peter, Bunny, etc), Jonny C', Joe S' -all have died. Redemption Songs!
Great Review. "Small Axe," a song he wrote, is the name of a tv show on Amazon about Jamaicans in England. "Satisfy My Soul" and "Coming in from the Cold" are a couple of my favorites.
Another great cover which includes Bob Marley, and one of his sons, was done by a group called Playing For Change. Look it up, well worth the listen. I love most of their covers. God Bless!
