in my state, you call a number the night before. since he went at 1pm, they were probably doing other panels before him to fill up the jury. For this process to begin, Adam had to fill out a form. There is a whole process to validate your address, a Questionnaire form. he would have a juror number and panel number.

I have served on a jury twice. The fist time was during the summer after my freshman year of college, and it cost me a chance at Hollywood startum. I have been a Civil War re-enactor since the early 1990's, and the same week I had jury duty is when members of my group participated in the filming of the movie Gettysburg.

Was there last year. That is a massive building. There was a bomb scare when i was there. Had to wait about hour to get back in. Downtown is amazing. There's an historic hardware store, other cool places. Behind the courthouse is Big lake Toho. Next to that a bus and train station. Worth a visit. Never served on a jury but was also called and dismissed. Favorite law movie is The Verdict with Paul Newman.

I served 6 weeks on a trial, because it was so long everyone received a letter from the judge excusing us if we wished, from further calls to do jury service. We had done our duty. It was a interesting experience the whole courtroom went through a host of emotions, even at one point having a laugh with the defendants in the courtroom. @@TheDailyWoo I lived in NYC for over 30 years, and like clockwork every 3-5 years I would get another summons for duty. It was crazy, like I pissed someone off. Served three whole jury duties. Two of them were civil cases, one was a federal case against a gang member for multiple homicides.
Both civil cases ended up getting settled out of court, but not before they dragged us into multiple days in the courtroom. One was for a fall on unsalted ice, the other was because an ex had slammed his car door shut on his girlfriends hand which caused her to lose several fingers.
The criminal one was pretty intense. I never EVER want to be on the wrong side of a federal criminal courtroom. The lead DA, her multiple assistants, and THEIR assistants all showed up through the trial. As a juror *I* was legit scared, and I didn't even do anything wrong. The state had all these DA's and attorneys, that guy had a single criminal defense lawyer that looked like he got picked out of Discount Dan's School of Lawyering.
I never want to piss off the feds enough that they throw THAT kind of ammo at me.

    • @JasonPullara
      @JasonPullara 3 года назад +7

Forgot to mention, the federal criminal one lasted all of a week. We were sequestered in a holiday inn across the street from the courthouse (and right next to the police station). It was just so boring. We couldn't watch TV in case there was a story about the alleged crime. All the free coffee I could drink, though, so that was cool.

That mural is extremely Steampunk... I frequent the conventions and enjoy the aesthetic and know at least two songs (or two I can think of now) that speak of a steam powered horse.
Boy, Florida didn't waste any time calling you up, Mr. the Woo. I've been summoned a few times but was able to get excused because I had no transportation or had small children at home. But last month they finally got me since I have a car and the youngest is 14. I got to check online and found out my group had to come in person, where my husband (who got his a week later) was just able to check online and they never called him in.
It was pretty fascinating, though. I was interested in all the little steps of things I'd only seen on TV and thought I might even be okay with the 3 week trial until I heard the charges read and boy did I have a hard night trying to sleep. By morning I was a nervous wreck and apparently the defense attorney decided I was not what he wanted on a case of 4 counts of, ahem... alleged pervy actions upon young girls, now in their 20s... and I got to leave around noon. I fairly ran out of there. I see the attorney's side of it... I'd just told the prosecuting attorney that I had a friend who had been similarly treated by her father, that I was extremely anxious, and of course... I have 2 daughters, one of whom is around the age of the witnesses. I insisted that if I was needed I would remain impartial and let the evidence speak, but I bet he couldn't wait to excuse me!

When I lived in TX you could be called to serve every 3mo. 🙄 guess who was on that rotation 🙋🏼‍♀️. I made it on one jury but we never made it to a courtroom, plea deal was made while we waited.
The town I was born in, jury duty lasts a month. You have to call in by 7am each day to see if you are to come in.
It’s odd how differently, things are done state to state.

Disneyland has reopen so great to hear that. Everyone can get back to their jobs and everyone can get back to the happiest place on earth. Hopefully we can get back to normal slowly but for sure.

In San Antonio, Tx, you receive a summons for a date to report. You must appear in person and wait around all day to see if your name is called for potential juror selection. You can request to be excused if you have extenuating circumstances. Compensation is $6/day. Typically, it’s only a day you have to report, but sometimes you have to report multiple days to see if your name is called.

I've served on a jury and it was actually a great experience. The only annoying part was when we had to sequester for jury deliberations, but that was only a couple days.

Last time I had jury duty, the judge asked us if any of us had a problem if a lawyer asked a witness something that we really wanted to know about the case but it was ruled that we weren't allowed to hear. I raised my hand and said I'd have a problem with that. That's all it took, the lawyers didn't pick me for the jury and I could go. I guess if you think about anything at all, they don't want you - they need a zombie pool.

I lived in Daytona Beach 1986 to 1993. I was summoned for jury duty in federal court in Orlando in 1992. That is the only time I have served on a jury. It was a counterfeit trial with the Secret Service.

They probably caught that video you made talking & showing about it. Near the end of this video I was wondering if you ever saw the T.V. court show 'Jury Duty'? For here in Oregon, it came on WB32. Not sure what channel that is where you might've seen it. & the show had a slogan: "Don't even try getting out of it!"
