I bought this LP from Gramex. Going through a Prokofiev and Walton phases (the phases are still with me!) this was always going to be a winner; ASMF, Marriner, two favourite composers and the Argo/Decca sound. Glad to have found this online, many thanks Rodders.

Thanks Tony. I wish I had the Walton on CD in this version but one side is better than none...

Marriner's recordings of 20th Century music for the Decca subsidiary, Argo, were among some of his and the Academy's most remarkable. Barshai's string arrangement of Prokofiev's piano composition is hardly easy-listening but it enhances much of the composer's characteristically quirky compositional and melodic sensibility. The emotional range covered is staggering, and rest assured there are moments of great beauty.....

The seventh piece is missing. For sure not easy to orchestrate, but why to just renounce the challenge?

I thought so too, but the piece is already meant to sound like harp, notban orchestra and I think it's so unique that the arranger it for the piano. Some things just dont need to be changed. I agree though, it would have been cool to hear it
