    I personally loved how Eddie Redmayne delivered the line "and myself with it" when he tried to warn the opponents involved in the revolution. That small phrase was delivered with calculated emotions but overwhelming and plausible silence, which made Eddie's Marius sound patriotic, devoted, sacrificial, and expiatory. I was rooting to watch the TV miniseries but, it doesnt look that much of a convincing adaption, regardless of the fact that its depiction is closer to the books.

      ThePugPie how on earth can you say the 2012 musical film, which isn’t even a good depiction of the musical is closer to the book? The bbc series has the coin theft by Valijean, Fantine’s eloping, the old woman who snoops on Fantine’s history, azelma, the incarceration and implied death of Mrs Thenardier, the whole subplot with marius’s father and his adopted father. None of this is in the musical or in the shit 2012 movie. And I’m my opinion all of those bits were done well in the series. The series does I admit struggle with the revolution party and I think part of it is the amount of characters and the fact Marius is just not as interesting or as nuanced as the others. If you look at the other non musical adaptation, with Geoffrey Rush, that is also pretty good until it completely derails when the revolutionaries get involved.

      @ThePugPie Exactly the book said if Cosette loved someone less pure she would be "ruined" (get pregnant with no father like Fantine). Well done BBC you completely missed the point because you thought the Eponine fangirls would like him being a creeper!

      Yep. Went into a drunken stupor/sleep (he had like... an entire bottle or two of wine) behind the bar after he had an argument with Enjolras about where he should sleep it of. Enj didn’t want him to stay at the barricade, but Grantaire was like “nah, dude. I’m good.” and crashed there before the battle. He literally woke up only moments before he joined Enjolras to die.

      I liked it a lot as well! I read the entire novel, and this is much more faithful to the book. Marius really was a lovesick, scared boy who didn't join his friends until he thought he'd lost Cosette.

    • @akis8402
      @akis8402 5 лет назад +12

      @@allygp6834 No it's not. The only "noteworthy" thing they changed from the book is that Valjean runs into Sister Simplice instead of Fauchelevent in the convent. And even that change is completely justified as it moves the story at a faster pace instead of having Valjean and Fauchelevent talking for hours about how they are going to convince the nuns to let him and Cosette stay in the convent.
      Marius' backstory is faithfully explored as is Valjean's interaction with Petit-Gervais, two events that almost every adaptation including the musical leaves out.

    • @lettylunasical4766
      @lettylunasical4766 5 лет назад +1

      Theh probably skipped over his poverty because it was boring abd theres a lot of story to jam into 6 episodes. Plus we knew he was poor because we saw his grabdad disown him and saw his living conditions. He didn't approve of slavery but just did nothing to stop Thenardier and considering how uninterested he was in the barricades and that slavery was normal back then, it makes sense.

    Although I am a fan of Josh O'Connor but honestly I think Eddie Redmayne played the role of Marius Pontmercy so much better, Eddie played it very similar to Marius from the book. Also, Ellie Bamber (the actress who played Cosette) played her part not so good. Cosette and Jean Valjean never argued in ten years they spent together. Cosette (from the book) would never say to Jean Valjean "I hate you". It's like you missed the whole point of both Cosette and Marius. Honestly, did any of them actors actually read the book? On the other hand, Dominic West and David Oyelowo, Olivia Colman, Adeel Akhtar and Lily Collins played their role very convicingly, very similar to their parts in book. I enjoyed watching their parts. :)
