The Gecko can fit. And thus, size is justified. Wow is this set beautiful! If it weren't so pricey, I'd be picking it up in heartbeats. It looks so cool!!
I have a lot of thoughts about this set, and instead of trying to properly format a paragraph or two about all of it, I'm just gonna do bulletpoints - I love that beatle print. My partner is a huge bug lover so I may try getting it for them. - This set reminds me of the unfortunate reason why, when a baseplate is included in a set, it's usually fully/mostly covered, that being the corners floating, I noticed it in the official pictures and it seems to be noticable in reviews of it as well. - It's strange that they didn't make this set try to fit the modular style but they did with the X-Mansion (I know it's to fit with other marvel modulars, but they really should've given it a larger front lawn) - I love the plants in this set! from the mushrooms you mentioned, to the cacti, to that GORGEOUS red tree in the front, the designer(s) did a great job - I'm a bit bummed to hear that lego will be stepping away from featuring their designers in the instructions, as that's an aspect I really love seeing and, if anything, I wish they'd include designer crediting in more sets! Like maybe at the front or back of the instructions just listing all that designed/helped in designing the set. Overall a good set, could've been smaller but it's not, whomp whomp
I really agree that lego should have a "credits" section to their instructions. it would not only be super cool to see all the people that worked on sets, (especially big ones) it would also distinguish them from other building block companies that (to my knowledge) don't do this. (edit: another comment says the company "cada" puts designer names on boxes so i was wrong about the designer crediting thing. still would be super cool to see that in instructions tho)
Honestly when it comes to designers Id like to see an overall credits list at the end of instructions. That'd be really neat to see all the people involved.
It makes sense that a botanical garden wouldn't fit in with the rest of the city's layout. They're usually standalone buildings on the outskirts or in a park setting, so... However, god, we need some AFFORDABLE sets.
In terms of Lego stepping away from crediting one set designer, I think (if possible), they should credit everyone who contributed to designing the set. It's not the most fair for someone who worked on a movie and they aren't credited, and similarly I think it's important to show all of those who helped make a Lego set come to life.
The gecko is back! Great vid, as always! In my opinion, the size of this building is just right. As a kid, I wouls always get frustrated at buildings that were small, I felt like still hungry or something alike. This one would be enough!
0:22 i thought this was a botanical garden not a trex exhibit Edit: can you make another video going over the plant designs themselves in better detail?
Why would they remove the designer's credit? That's an awful idea! A director still gets full credit for a film, despite there being thousands of people required to bring that to life.
@@CheeseyStudios I really enjoyed reading who the design was and reflecting on what sets they'd made in the past. I found it really fascinating seeing all different building styles. But I guess that's gone now...
I feel like either the designers were getting too much hate online for decisions LEGO is making with things like the LEGO Star Wars sets and they want to shield the designers from decisions the business is making. The other option is that Lego will be using AI to make their instructions going forward and want to start getting ahead of that
The new pieces design are the white arches occupying one less space, the tulips and the peonies (the mould was designed for this set but got leapfrogged by the schedule of other sets) :)
I was tempted to buy the Friends Botanical Gardens set because I just thought it was so beautiful! I'm not a Friends collector and I'm glad that I held off. This set looks amazing! I will most likely be finding it a way to exist with my Modular Building collection. Thanks for the video!
I bet if you want the Gardens to fit in the modular buildings city, you could build a park to match up with that particular set. Because a park is a likely place to find a building like that one.
As someone who made an entire greenhouse MOC, submitted it to Ideas, got my submission taken down for lacking depth in the description and some minorly blurry images but never bothered to fix the changes and resubmit it, this is STELLAR
It should be noted, those 1x5 white curved pieces (used in the roof, next to the corners and all along) are also new, as the current downward curved piece is 1x6 not 1x5 like these new ones
I think the design itself is sound. I'd just like to have it scaled in a why that would work better with the modular sets. Also, maybe having some more space filled in the interior with more plants!
Space is an important commodity for me, and this one is just too much. Having seen the final build, I've opted to buy 2x Friends Botanical Garden sets, so I can make a botanical garden for half the price and a smaller footprint.
Who let that T-Rex loose in the garden?! I guess I'm not the person who would complain about the modularity anyway as I have no modular buildings at the moment, but honestly, conservatories like this in the real world are generally in parks or gardens, and not up on the street anyway. So it'd be weird to have it just up in a row of other buildings regardless, it should be off by itself in a field of green. Set looks great, don't know if I'll get it day one, but I'll get it sometime!
The last modular I recall seeing below 200 dollars was the police station a few weeks before it retired, and I know that this is ideas, but it's the easiest comparison to make with other modulars. So it seems that Lego may be stepping away from cheaper modulara and, by extension, cheaper buildings in general.
Oh i thought the tulips were minion hairs heh pretty nice, does feel like a botanical garden, the plants builds are very nice, not as innovative nowadays but cool
Does the booklet include info about each plant? I think for a botanical garden set, that would be a really great touch, so you could learn a little about the plants in the garden as though you're actually taking a tour of it yourself!
Another set that looks awesome with so much detail and effort put into it, but one that is still way too expensive to justify picking up. I miss the days when $200 sets were considered large/expensive...
I think adults want more Themes, so like this have it under Modular aka City for adults. Ideas is this weird middle ground. It's not a full theme, the rules can change and kind of a catch all. Like Castle sizes with the Town and Blacksmith shop. I think these are more to be enjoyed on a book shelf, then played with. I would love this for some their older sets like Adventures, but I don't know. Lego knows what they want.
I would like if they added a picture of the whole team of designers for each project. They all matter to me. Think of the anonymous worker that named Big Boy with chalk.
I’ve been re watching the entire LEGO Minecraft series, with the new flower parts in this set i think the flower forest could use an update (tulips especially). I’m curious if the new tulip/bud fits on a 2L bar with stopper, Instead of the current illegal technique you used in the Flower Forest. (and some peonies)
Is it even a review if it doesn’t have the gecko? Nah but I seriously love your videos man, I also enjoyed the one from your wife! I would like to get this beautiful set if it didn’t cost someone’s insurance
And at the moment the Friends version is discounted on Amazon so the price difference is even greater. I love this one, but the Friends one does so much for so much less.
Whoa - $60 is crazy! So you could buy SIX of those for less than the price of this? Imagine the Botanical Garden you could make with all those parts. 🤣 It looks like there's plenty of Rebrickable instructions available that will allow for a completely enclosed version with 2 or 3 sets - that's definitely the way to go if someone wants a garden in their city.
I love that you do these set reviews and I have been trying to get into the LEGO review business, but I don't know how. Do you buy the sets that you review, or does LEGO send them to you to review? If it is the latter, how did you get LEGO to send the sets to you?
As beautiful as this set is, I do think it probably should've been on a single baseplate. Just for the amount of space this takes up, it seems like a big ask of lego, especially when they just had an arguably just as beautiful Friends garden on the market
2:30 hmm that's a little disappointing to hear. sure there's lots more people involved than just the designer, but taking away the designer spotlight isn't doing anything to acknowledge those other people more.
Its a disapointment for me ... 3 Botanical Garden Friends sets are cheaper and can make something equal if not even better ... The Ideas submission was great because it was Tall and this is just wide and empty to me. Unfortunate ...
I may be in the minority but I thought it looks awesome next to the modular building at the beginning. Maybe placing it in your city by its lonesome wouldn't make it so obvious that there is not sidewalk etc. Like in a park if people build those, here in the great state of Ohio, most botanical gardens are in parks and not "in a city" per se.
The variety of plant builds in this set is very cool. Part count notwithstanding though, it just doesn’t feel like a $300 set. Compared to the modular buildings or the Ninjago City line, it feels like there’s less going on. I wouldn’t change anything about the design-I just can’t see paying more than $200 for it.

I might do that. It is just that classic problem of Lego making everything super expensive.
