@Brian_F your desire to learn the names of things should be secondary to your desire to deal damage and not take damage if you want to win. Your coaches lack of concern for what things are called to me shows focus on winning the game rather than being correct.
@@lfwalrus Yet another Tekken player who doesn't know anything yet thinks they're an expert, and executes mental gymnastics to attempt to justify their ignorance. It weirds me out how common such people are in the Tekken community. Calling a lack of knowledge "focus on winning the game" is laughable; you need knowledge, and you need to be correct, in order to coach people accurately & effectively. This is so obvious that it shouldn't need to be spelled out on a chalkboard for you. Learning is how you improve, and names exist to make learning things easier. Even elementary schoolers understand this.
Tekken players are the definition of “the kid who doesn’t study but somehow aces every test.” Bryan is trying to define situations with terms and brawl is like “just hit him idk.” 😂
NGL i really like brian's episodes that have Ft. guest because the editing really "zooms in on thier face" lol to make them feel as present in the match as brian is. props to the editor.
9:18 the confusion here is that that's not a knockdown, but the animation of getting hit by a low looks like a street fighter knockdown. You're just hitting them with a move and then doing another move, it's not oki.
Lol dude the reason tekken doesn't have a simple term like "otg" or words for "meaty" or "beating wakeup options" is because the game just doesn't really work like that. In most 2d fighters you get up automatically from a knockdown, so every oki situation is fairly similar: the player standing knows how many frames you'll be down for and tries to hit a meaty grab or combo starter, the person lying down has to guess. In Tekken, you can wake up with a low kick, a springkick, roll left or right, wake up block or just stay down if you want. There's no meaty to go for because you don't know when your opponent is going to wake up or how. It's just a completely different oki game.
HAHAAAA "maybe you don't know, where's PhiDX" cracked me up. However BP is right, there is no OTG in Tekken, you just say a move hits grounded. The jumping kicks after db2 hits are not oki or meaty, since the opponent is not grounded and getting up and the move hits with its first active frame, it might be a frame trap like BP said, or simply taking advantage of your plus frames.
@@PhiDX eyyy I was about to comment saying “I’m pretty sure he recently learned about otg from playing other fighting games (sf6?)” and here you are. I commented on that video saying I’m glad the communities are coming together and here we are. It’s beautiful 🥲
It's so funny when Brine is trying to find specific words and terms to play Tekken and Tekken players just seemingly don't think like that, it's so SF coded where everything that happens is much more streamlined. Tekken feels more unga bunga and I like that a lot despite being an SF main player
I mean tekken has its own terms, it looked like brian was confusing the low hitting them was them getting knocked down. So he called it okizeme. Okizeme exists in tekken but that specific hei low and plus on block mid kick is just pressuring in general. Tekken okizeme depends on the position the opponent is lying down in. FUFA for example means face up feet away, which can be pretty dangerous cuz youll wake up w ur back to ur opponent. There’s a lot of different wakeup options too.
Just cause this guy doesn't know the terms, doesn't mean they don't exist. We can pretend he represents the entire community if that makes you guys feel superior or whatever, sure. Literally every of the ~100+ moves each character has has a unique name. There are generic terms like "knock down low" "hop kick" "electric" etc. But like to really communicate situations you've got to use notation or actual move names and like other people have mentioned, there are so many edge cases and unique situations revolving being on the ground/getting off the ground that it's difficult to try and use a generic catch all term to describe them. You could just say Oki or mix up, but that's not really clear enough to tell the whole story of an interaction.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you know the jargon as long as you can recognize an interaction. No reason to try to gatekeep people or try to make them feel inferior for not knowing what to call something.
Hell yeah. BP and Brian collabs go crazy. 5 years ago I would have never imagined 😭 Also BP is right in that Tekken they’ll usually say that “this move hits grounded” for OTGs. Though I disagree with not knowing the terminology I feel like that’s basic fg terms 😭
bro brian got me into my first street fighter game in sf6 cause of sajam slam. im a long time tekken player so seeing all this come full circle is funny. i love fighting games
you know I never thought of it before but you can't meaty in Tekken since there's no knockdown invincibility. Even rolls are not fully invincible. There's no "OTG" either since everything hits grounded anyway, as long as it hits low enough to the ground.
You can set up meaties after techrolls in most situations where tech timing isn't variable because techrolls and backrise do have invuln. frames. Certain characters used to have meaty setups into guaranteed followups vs tech as well (T7 Asuka, T6 Feng, etc.)
OTG in the sense that it can force wakeup on grounded opponent does not exist in Tekken Because there are frames in wakeup animation that you cannot block, people usually just take additonal damage on knockdown which moves them further away from the opponent, which "usually" allows them to get up more safely
Brian is obviously a busy man, but I would love to see more colab stuff with the rivals crew. Everyone from Dokibird to Koeffecient had so much chemistry. Eskay teaching Brian Deadlock when?
It's nice to know for sure that hunting hawk with Hei is plus for sure and that both hits are mid. Is it also meant to track both sides or is there a trick to stepping it?
speaking of street fighter players playing tekken, tokido is pretty good at tekken. I think he won or atleast placed quite high in tekken tag at evo once.
