WHEN i lived at Saltdean the beach would be covered in skate egg cases after a blow. There must be loads of them out there. Years ago at Pevensey I had 3 on a 3 hook rig on red rag. Little darlings but NEVER a big one sadly. Good luck!!!
How big/old would a small eye ray get to before it gave birth? Also do they lay purse eggs like common skate or do they give birth to live rays? I seen a video from florida with a guy on the beach after landing a 50+ sting ray and him and his friend were showing the camera each baby ray as it came out and swam off and they were only a little smaller than the 2 rays you caught at the start. It's a species I've not landed I hooked a big thornback when I was 5 or 6 off a pier near home it was just a way for my grandad to take me n kill time babysitting it was 85/86 and he put a joey mackerel on a big hook and huge weight on this old wooden boat rod and sat me down and said the if the big wooden centerpin reel starts clicking pickup the rod and shout me and it did it screamed and I picked it up but my grandad had heard it he grabbed it and this rigid was rod was bent right down and he fought for a while and I was looking down between the railings and it was a massive thornback and he had no choice but to try handline it it and 2 feet out the water it dropped it was hooked to light but several people fishing and walking dogs watched the epic fight and I heard a few people saying it must have been over 15lb, it was apparently an unseen catch nobody knew anyone else who had ever hooked one off that pier but strange things happen I've seen many unusual catches over the years but that's one that got me really enthusiastic about fishing. Great video BTW always enjoy. 👌
Thanks for watching mate! Yeah I saw the same video of the stingray was pretty incredible, these type of ray lay eggs which are called mermaid purses. I think it’s only stingrays which give live berth! Lovely story of your childhood, things like that which get us hooked into the fishing 😎
@SouthCoastDangler sod it! Your video has inspired me lol. Think I'll give it a try tonight (friday) fish the tide up. Got a new rod I want to test out. Cheers mate 👍

Where there’s small ones there must be big ones?! That’s my thinking anyway 🫣

Is anywhere along there good to fish. Thinking of giving it a go. Reckon I'll be ok to park at the fort and just walk down to the beach?
Yeah should be fine, I fished a little further up than that where the beach bends round, I don’t fish there very often but I will be in the future

@@grahamgreen3169 nice one, good luck to you and please let me know how it goes!
@@SouthCoastDangler completely weeded out. Ended up at Brighton Marina. Not a bite, baits coming back untouched 😔
@grahamgreen3169 ah no sorry to hear that, was going to head there Tuesday but maybe I’ll pass for now untill the weed has gone 😏
