- I think this Limited Edition Super Granulation Urban set is rather different to Schmincke’s other ones. The contrast between the pigments is less dramatic. The tones are more gentle, subtle and sophisticated. They’re very practical for daily use. Although it’s still formulated around 2 single pigments from the Volcano set (PY159 & PR108) they still offer a very different and distinct look to all the other sets. This is a welcome addition to my Urban sketching selection box. I love these granulating watercolors. Compared to others in the market, Schmincke’s are always well behaved and easy to control.
Worth noting: My Urban Yellow has a slight degree of bonding separation, this is also the case with my Volcano Yellow.
If I had to pick, Urban Red and Urban Brown are my top two from this set.
Hope my video helps some of you if you are considering this set. Enjoy life one or two beautiful colours at a time!
As always my swatching videos are colour calibrated. Calibration of your monitor will show the colours more faithfully.
Subs are properly embedded, you can select to auto translate to your native language.

Ms. Papertude, Thank you for all the swatching videos and the pigment information you include on the screen. For me, having important information on the screen reduces confusion since toxicity of craft products are a concern. I don't often have young children in my home, but when they visit, they're always able to locate whatever I lost months prior. Immediately after an item is found, it goes into their mouth. Both synthetic and organic watercolor pigments have ingredients which can be harmful and/or irritating. Experienced adults artist are aware that paint pigments ingredients contain oxides, ferrites and numerous "ates" that present varying degrees of toxicity. Most are aware of the health and safety preclusions required when working with highly toxic supplies containing cadmium, lead, iron oxides, cobalt, azo calcium salts, mercury, zinc, etc. Since it's close to impossible not use toxic paints, is there a way to determine the ingredients contained in each hue? Are granulating/super granulating paints more toxic than non-granulating paints due to the larger pigments used to create them? I'm not certain if these questions will make sense to a professional arts. If anyone understands what I'm trying to ask, please chime in. I'm hoping fore-knowledge will avoid a trip to emergency room as kids seem willing to try anything that isn't food.🤨🤔🤭🙄. thanks 🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎
I don't think super-granulating paint are any more toxic than the same pigments in a finer form. It would ultimately be down to the chemical composition of the ingredients and concentrations. Well established brands label the toxic contents clearly such as Cadmium and Cobalt. You can find health and safety data sheets on their website. Mainstream brands often offer related hues as alternatives to these. In general, the art world has been debating discontinuation of these for years, the rule of thumb seems to be dry fine powder form poses a danger from inhalation. Ready made colours are relatively less dangerous when handled correctly (humans and pets should not eat!). It's just my opinion, but I hope this helps.
Hi Papertude! Thank you for swatching out this set and for comparing the paints from the Urban set with others from the super granulation line of paints.
You're very welcome. Thanks for dropping me a note. Glad to hear it was useful! 🤗 Happy Painting!
I love your videos! they are so relaxing with the music you use and I love just watching the slow display of colors... I could watch your watercolor swatching all day!
Lol, thanks for letting me know you're enjoying my videos. You're so sweet! 🤗
Your videos are always great to watch. Thank you. The urban set looks great.
Thanks Jade, you're very kind! 🤗
Very useful comparisons to various other super granulating sets similar color ways. I'm saving this post. Love seeing them side by side yo choose one yellow one brown one or two greens etc
Glad to help, Lulabelle. I was thinking most folks won't need them all as there is a fair bit of similarity. It'd be nice to be able to cherry pick between them! 🤗💖
Those swatch cards are the cutest!
Thanks! There's a video on my channel about how I make them if you'd like to see other shapes and types.
Sophisticated, indeed. Thank you.
Great comparison, beautifully filmed. Thank you.
Glad to hear that you found the comparison informative. Thanks for your kind comment. BTW, your colouring on 7 Vies de l'Épervier is amazing! 🤗
@@Papertude Thank you!
Ooooh, I love the Sepia color! I might try to pick that one tube up separately since the other colors really didn't grab me for some reason. Some of them seem muted compared to all the other super granulating sets, but that's a good thing for someone who paints with muted colors. Thank you for such a nice swatch video!
That Sepia is defeinitely worth getting. It has life and character to it, unlike the norm. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the video! ❤️🤗
Thank you so much for listing the pigment numbers. I couldn't find them listed anywhere.
Glad to hear my video was of some use! Happy Painting!
Hi I’m new here and love your swatching, so relaxing. I love the Schmincke granulating watercolours beautiful colours ❤
Hi Louise! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi! I'm a big fan of these too! ❤️🤗
So pretty! I’m waiting for my order. I have all their super granulating sets. I’m obsessed lol
Me too, they're so much fun. Enjoy when they arrive!
This was my first Scmincke paints. Bought the tinies, and they are tiny. Even so, they are perfect for adding color to sketches of major East Coast Cities; which is why I tend to purchase “Urban” sets. I need dark & grungy with a wee touch of bright… 😊 The Neutral / Black is awesome for the color and texture of Asphalt ( which is used everywhere here)
After having this set for a while, apart from yellow, they all get good use in my urban sketching. I like granulation paints for adding texture quickly without building up layers. So, it's perfect for architecture sketching.
🌼Merci Mlle Papertude pour vos Vidéos aussi Utiles que Délicieusement Agréables et Apaisantes🌼
🤩Je les Adore 💜🧡💖
🌸🌸🌸Bien Amicalement et Artistiquement Votre, 🌸🌸🌸

Hi - beautiful set--thanks for the video. Where do you get your swatch cards? Thanks
Among my videos I have a short one on how I make those swatch cards with all the info. Enjoy! 🤗
@@Papertude thank you! I'll watch it.
What would be an appropriate “blue” to round out the palette?
Tundra Blue would be my pick!🙂
Where do you purchase your small individual swatch cards..the ones that look like they are stitched around the outside ?
Hi Judy, thanks for watching! I put everything about those cute tags in a short video: ruclips.net/video/kJWYp9n5N_c/видео.html
