In an absolute emergency you could dump the water out and re-use the filter, but the filter media becomes saturated and will restrict flow. Its also very difficult to keep the water out of the outlet side of the filter when you dump it out. best to carry a spare filter element on board to replace.
Curious why you don't stock/sell the 'drain-able' type separators. Usually they will have a transparent plastic bottom with a drain plug so you can keep an eye on water level without having to remove it and easily drain the water on an ongoing basis. I believe Sierra (the brand you carry) makes these "Racor Style Fuel Water separator"
Our online store started because we have a service business and we wanted to increase the turnover of the parts our service business keeps in inventory. In our service business we use very few of the racor style water separators, so we just haven't kept them in inventory. But we are always adding inventory, so Racor style filters will now be put on the list. Thank you. I understand that if you use E10 fuel (hard to avoid these days), if you get water contamination then the water will easily and fully mix with the ethanol and won't phase separate like it would with pure gasoline. So if you drain the fuel-water separator and check it might look like you don't have any water (no phase separation) but actually you might still be getting a fair bit of water in the fuel system! So not sure how good a diagnostic test this is? Curious on your thoughts?
Unfortunately that is the exact opposite of what happens. Water in the fuel will grab hold of the ethanol and pull it out of suspension. And it takes very little water to make it happen. Here on the West Coast of Canada the humidity in the air is enough to cause phase separation over as little as six weeks. The problem with ethanol is it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and falls out of suspension in the gasoline. This happens when the fuel sits stationary for periods of time. As long as the vehicle is used often it stirs it all up. As for an additive, I have not tested any that are on the market, but you would want to look for one that has added emulsifiers to help keep the ethanol in suspension. Keep your fuel tank full to reduce the amount of air in contact with the fuel. Hope that helps a little. Where are you that non ethanol fuel is not available?

Very hard to get ethanol free gas here for less than $10/gal. I really cannot keep the tank full as you suggest. I have a 40HP motor and a 20 ga. tank. A tank lasts all summer. Should I just run the engine out of gas prior to winterizing?
Yes, you can run the engine out of fuel before winterizing. I recommend adding a stabilizer to the fuel before you do it because there will be small amounts of fuel left in the system here and there.@@sqqqrly7750
hi..the gas pump of my enverude etsc 30 hp engine is constantly receiving electric current. The engine locks itself without starting. ecu is solid. how can i fix it..
Without having the motor in front of me to diagnose correctly I have no idea. But I would start at the fuel pump relay, perhaps the contacts are stuck. If the relay grounds through the ecm to turn on you may have a short to ground in that circuit.
@@CanadaWideMarine Is the fuel pump relay not in the ecu? The ecu has been tested in another engine and it is valid. Is there a contact in another contact place?.. Can you tell me which ends of the ecu's 12 volt input socket?. I wonder if I have a short circuit in the 12 volt energy entering the ecu, I'm asking to measure..ecu is solid, no problem..
I am not super familiar with Evinrudes, we don't get many of them around here. I have never seen a fuel pump relay within the ECU, the power demands of a fuel pump are too high for an ECU to handle it. that said I guess it is possible, although extremely unlikely, (because of electrical noise generated by high currents) that Evinrude incorporated the PDM within the ECU housing, but I doubt it. I very strongly do not recommend poking about testing for voltages on anything computer controlled unless you have the correct test equipment, (like a power probe as a minimum) and have some very good knowledge of the circuits you are testing. Modern ECUs cannot handle even a regular old test light.

Here are 2 ideals for another video. 1. Mix water and fuel. Dump it into a new filter. Then dump filter out into a clear glass jar to see the results. 2. Add water to a used filter and compare results. Will a used filter absorb water and if so how much.

How do you buy fuel without ethanol the only place I know that sells that type of fuel is airports?
There are stations that sell it. Maverik in the west is our boat friends.
