- With the coronation of King Charles III this weekend, could Canadians see a new face on their coins and bills in the near future? Ottawa has yet to make that decision. Alex Karpa reports.

It wouldn't really cost anything different. Existing money would stay in circulation, it would only affect newly minted coins and printed bills that are added to circulation each year. Regardless, I still don't want him on our money.

I very much agree, and would yes to keeping the monarchy in the event of any referendum on whether or not Canada should keep the monarch or not. I prefer tradition rather than anything else.

Why is it even a question... you put the reigning monarch on the coin, that's what we've always done. It keeps us from having to argue about which other idiot is more important than the idiot we already agreed on.

I hadn't thought about it but that guy makes a point: why not put natives on the money? I hardly know about their history, who their leaders are/were. They didn't teach us any of that in school so it would be a good way to teach people (an make them aware) a little about the history of the people that came here first.

if you haven't heard they were supposed to change the new 5 to vertical and have a new face like terry fox and people were supposed to vote the last few years. Who knows what they will do. It was on the bank of canada website
@@lilPerc30 Cool, I didn’t know that… I appreciate you letting me know but I still don’t know why they want to replace the already existing Canadian historic figures on the bills tho… the passing of the Queen, although sadly unfortunate, might provide an opportunity to replace a monarchal figure with a Canadian one, or at least the argument could be reasonably made but I don’t see the United States rushing to replace Washington or Jackson on their currencies… or any other country as far as I know… I mean, sir wilfrid laurier was a past Prime Minister of Canada… kind of like a founding father… it doesn’t seem right to replace him with a trendy modern celebrity or something… Terry fox was great, don’t get me wrong… but it just feels like an odd choice to replace an early Prime Minister with Terry Fox on the five dollar note… if Terry was around today then I bet he would agree, but I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong lol 🍻

King Charles is 74 years old. He is healthy and likely lives to 90 or 95. So he's likely to be our King for 20 years. He is a rubber stamp king, which is the best kind of leader. We elect parliament, our governor general stamps whatever Parliament passes. So he is the will of the people.
The Diana fiasco is a blight on his record. For that reason, seeing his face on the money in my pocket bothers me. Queen Elizabeth had no blight, only minor blunders, because while a great lady, she's human. Her accomplishments were numerous and her blunders were minor and few.
At the end though, Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Charles is now King. So he should be on our money.
We do not have to recall bills in circulation, just as they age out, new bills should have the King's image.
I would think so that’s appropriate. He’s not going to be in for long. That’s the tough point because it’s so expensive and so much work. I’d pause too. He could rule for 15 years or more but he apparently has some issues with his health.

I'm not a fan of the monarchy, but I've always thought that getting rid of it just wouldn't be worth the time and effort it would take. It feels like Charles taking over might be a good time to ditch it.

@@ThePhilosophicalOne Well, I'm in Canada. They don't actually own anything here. They just show up on the money, and they have a minor representative in gov who is pretty much powerless, unless there is a problem, and even then they can't do much. It would still require a Constitutional amendment to get them out of government, and we've tried something similar before, and it took years, and failed anyway. So they cost practically nothing, do practically nothing, and some people are still fond of having them around.
@@bskec2177 they also have politicians declare oaths to them instead of their people... That is something that just doesn't sit well with me. No one should be bending the knee to anyone else in Canada, even for just "ceremonial" purposes.

I don't have an issue with him being on the coins. Most people know which coin is which based on size alone, so I doubt many people will notice if Charles ends up on the coins.
When it comes to the bills however, no! Charles should not be on any of the bills. It should be notable Canadian figures who grace the bills

That said looking at the video thumbnail at those classic $1.00 and $2.00 bills, how many here would prefer paper $1.00 and $2.00 notes over our coin variants today..... I would welcome the return of these paper notes.

It's incredible how far this country has fallen in such a relatively short period of time. Where are all these people who have a problem with our new monarch being on our currency? I haven't heard anyone talking about this. I hear people talking about the cost of housing and lack of decent jobs, but not Charles. I suspect this is just liberal people in the media and other parts of the ruling class of this country trying to create this impression. Going by the number of views to the number of thumbs up on this video, I suspect that is the case. But do they not understand how our system of government works? Do they really want to live in a country where police and soldiers swear allegiance to Justin Trudeau, as would happen in a republic. If you want to live in a republic, just move to the United States. Don't ruin the form of government that has made Canada the greatest country in the world.

Of course not having him on it wouldn't make us a republic, but it would seriously undermine our Constitutional Monarchical system; which is why some people wish it, I suppose. Just because someone is "important" doesn't mean they should be on our money. Aside from the Monarch, the men who are on our notes played a pivotal roll when Canada was in its formative years. Our country would quite literally not be what it is today without them. But my main point was that I don't see any reason not to have him on. One should have a very good reason to overturn 156 years of precedent and I haven't heard a good argument so far, least of all from the individuals interviewed here.
