  • The motorcycle community in India was in awe of the Triumph Speed 400 and the reveal of the features and pricing of the Scrambler 400X took this awe to the next level. However, in a few of months Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan 450, which is a remarkable upgrade from the outgoing model.
Though the bikes serve different rider personas, the price point, the engine capacity, and the Indian motorcycle buyer's market makes these two compete... Thus this review. I am putting thoughts down on the Himalayan 450 as a owner of the bike with around 3k kms where as my thoughts on the Scrambler 400X are only from a short test ride but here are my thoughts on both bikes and how each serves the rider in their own way...
Overall, I think that the Scrambler 400X is a good choice for taller riders if:
    1. You do not plan on taking your pillion for longer rides/tours.
    2. You do not plan on doing hardcore off-roading.
    3. You like the look of the bike, which is based on the larger capacity retro-classic scramblers.
    4. You aren't concerned with the bike having tons of tech, although the Scrambler 400X has Traction Control and the Himalayan doesn't.
    5. You aren't concerned with how big the bike looks. The Himalayan is a larger, longer, and taller motorcycle.
    6. You aren't looking to get the ease of service/spares. Triumph SVC centers aren't as numerous as RE SVCs. Spares availability will take time to be as good as that of RE or other Indian brands.
    7. You prefer Tubeless tires, which is a big advantage.

Exactly what I was looking for - thank you! Also really appreciate the comparisons with the Himalayan 450 and your IG post on the 500NX. i'M 6ft 4' and 106kg, so not too different from you and have sat on a friends Scrambler 400x a while back. Like you, I found that it was surprisingly comfortable. Besides rotating the bars forward a little and possibly adding a riser, I would even go as far as saying that it fit pretty spot on from factory. Despite the Scrambler being physically small in appearance, it had a much, much better rider triangle than my bike, the much bigger Benelli TRK 502x which I have struggled with for way too long (the rider triangle felt way, way too tight with my knees above my hips. my knees also didn't fit under the bulges in the fairing with both issues together leading to lots of lower back and shoulder pain on longer rides). This is looking like a strong contender for my next commuting bike, especially at such a low price point.

I'm 6"4 and im wondering on the aesthetics of the look when one sits on it from the viewers POV? Advice?

The Himalayan is the bigger bike. Hence bigger fellows like us would aesthetically look better on it.

I’m 6ft 5 and confused between these 2 bikes , I generally do office trips 30km a day and one 70km on weekends , which would be more comfortable to do this and not have more lower back pain.

I think both are very comfortable but for your use-case go for the Scrambler 400X and put handlebar riser.

I am 6ft 6 and have the himalayan 450 but I think the ergonomics on the scrambler 400x is better than the himalayan

Thank you for your appreciation. Yes. It is in the pipeline. I had a small crash about 3 weeks back and I am recovering from the same. Will try out the husky post that. This is still a very small channel so it is a bit difficult to get bikes for a proper review. Hope you can support the channel by subscribing and sharing it with your friends.

Im 6’2” and a new rider.. Im confused between Triumph Scrambler 400X and Husqvarna Svartpilen 401.. Svartpilen 401 is in my head because of how it looks.. what is your advice for me?

Hey! Thanks for reaching out... the channel is dedicated to exactly you as the TG.
What is your most common use case for the bike? Commuting, weekend rides, longer tours?
If its city commuting and occasionally riding on the weekend, I'd say go with the Husky (or any other bike your heart desires). The Husky will also have better performance so if thrill is your thing, Husky wins. I think the Scrambler 400x would be a better tourer between the two but in general there are better bikes for touring/offroading.
Do hope you consider subscribing to the channel and supporting me on Insta as well...

@@tallguyrides792 its mainly commuting on city roads and highways within the city and occasionally go out on the roads outside the city.. Im not looking to go through and through offroad. Husky’s riding position is a bit more confident acc to me than Scrambler 400X’s.. but both look uniquely great.. so needed your opinion
