  • After sending 2 million (typically worn out) McNeilus AutoReach garbage trucks a week to pick up heavy loads of trash and delayed recycling, the City finally decided to take a slight change of pace.
    About a month ago, the city purchased this Sidewinder from Texas Pack and Load, and I gotta say it looks incredible in Houston blue! Very glad they gave Peterbilt another shot as well for the first time in a decade. Like most new units, the arm is super smooth and body has that shine all around. The driver said although Autocars have more in-cab space, he does enjoy driving on the right side. So far, this truck is being sent to different yards every couple of weeks for drivers to get a feel for it. As far as I know there are plans to purchase more, but until then, enjoy this video of Houston’s new ride!
    Huge thanks to Antonio for being the chillest and allowing me to record his awesome truck in action! Hope you find this video!

    Boy, I thought I was dreaming when I saw this truck picking up recycling in the southeast this morning! I’m surprised the city took this long to purchase a sidewinder; as back around 2015ish they used a demo auto car unit for about a week in the southeast yard, but I’m not at all surprised that they went with a Peter built cab, as the autocars are not holding up as well as the old Condors did (over 15 years lol) . Even the brand new autocars (less than a year old) have been breaking down so often I see one getting towed back to the shop once a week! Never thought I’d see the day houston has a sidewinder picking up rehrigs, shocking lol

      Oh wow, I figured they definitely demoed one of these once before. That’s unfortunate the Autocars aren’t holding up as well. I don’t wanna completely diss the city’s mechanics or anything but some of their trucks should be in much better condition than they are. If some of the newest units are being towed back that frequently, then long-term they aren’t gonna function right. Besides that, glad you enjoyed the video!

    Man, with the sparsely distributed Rehrigs and these new trucks, Houston SWD has changed a lot in recent years! Great video.

    Great video, I like the colors on this truck. It is nice to see Houston New Way Sidewinder, It looks nice with the hopper covers, and it also reminds me of when CWD used to have Autoreach. Now CWD has added ZRs to their fleet.

    This is what Huston needs! We'll have to see how it does in the areas with less flat roads. Thanks for posting!

    Nice video! Kinda cool to see a new truck in a new neighborhood picking up new carts. Certainly a change of pace from houston. That 12ft reach would be very welcome I'm sure. I hope they get more in the future. You are not joking about delayed recycling!

    City of Houston hasn’t brought peterbilts for a long time I remember they used to have older Peterbilt 320 autoreaches that roared so loud you can hear them from miles away

    Great video Jay! Really enjoyed this one! Super nice they bought something else besides most of their McNeilus Autoreaches. This truck for sure works well and runs pretty smooth. Like when the engine fan goes on and off. Hope they get more. Awesome work!

    Excellent video! This truck looks awesome in Houston blue and it’s really cool to see the city go with something different for a change! Arm is not quite as fast as some of the Autoreaches but it is super smooth nonetheless. Pretty cool seeing an area that has a lot of Rehrigs too, keep up the good work dude!

    • @RefuseDFW02
      @RefuseDFW02  Год назад +1

      Thanks Andrew! Yup very smooth arm, but it’ll take a while for it to get that higher speed potential. Been wanting to visit an area with only new carts so checked off the list!

  • @ARGarbageTrucks186

    Glad Houston got these! I think these take better care of the carts compared to the Autoreachs. This also adds up to the variety of trucks they have. They should also buy Automizers and Amreps, too, they will definitely help reduce spills. Amazing video as always!

    • @RefuseDFW02
      @RefuseDFW02  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Yup these grippers are definitely a bit easier on the carts, especially rehrigs. I know they did demo the Automizer once or twice before

    Great video! This truck definitely looks good, I’d say that I like the 520 chassis better with a Sidewinder body than the common ACX over here. While these are almost never the fastest, I do think they’d be good for those “ghetto” parts of Houston where bins are always ending up in ditches as a result of Autoreach arms. Seemed to work like a charm for this complex area though, nice work finding this on its first days of operation!

    • @RefuseDFW02
      @RefuseDFW02  Год назад +1

      Thanks Spencer! Yup fantastic truck for sure, and at least while it’s new, the smooth arm will help current AutoReach drivers lose habits like leaving carts knocked over and displaced
