  • This shows the street gutters and every other drain running the hardest I can ever recall seeing after 9 years of living in suburban St. Louis. This is during the severe weather event in the St. Louis area on 5/26/24 which was during a tornado warning and featured hail and heavy rain in addition to that. Beyond the street gutters being the fullest I've seen, you can also see how this was still insufficient drainage for the amount of water present and so the water was also flowing all over the sidewalks and pooling virtually everywhere. Also notice the yard drain directly across from us and how heavy the flow is there. Our own yard has been completely saturated for a couple of weeks it seems and at the end you see water basically pooling all over our yard. This is in suburban St. Louis County on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River (across from Illinois) and within the City of Manchester. I also have never seen water flowing over our front sidewalk from the garden and so this is another first. I think the huge runoff volume is due to the prior consistent and high rain that has left everything that can be saturated already saturated and thus any additional rain immediately becomes runoff.
