Hahaha, glad I'm not the only one who sees it 😂 I was so worried that having him as a service dog would make him less playful, but in fact it's done the opposite. I wouldn't work him if he didn't love it.

@@MommingwithMigraine its the ethical thing if they don't enjoy or live it dont force them. I feel that working dogs in general have a better bond with there person than non working animals. And I think k that because there is that swich with the gear they get really focused when you take it off they are able to let loose and play and they enjoy it more.

You (especially in the first part of this video) is 100% me most of the time. I’ve had migraines since I was 13 (I’m 30 now) and they have just gotten worse. I have a custom harness for my dog as well hoping people wouldn’t think she was a fake, but you still have so many judgey people out there. My dog is a small service dog (also fluffy), so that also doesn’t help. I’ve had to wear a heart monitor the last two weeks and noticed that people seemed to see her as more “justified” because I had it on. Invisible disabilities are rough. Thank you so much for making videos and educating about our illness ♥️

Wonderful video! I really appreciate watching Migraine Jen. Makes me feel less imposter syndromy about how I am in the non-headache stages of into and out of my migraines. Feels ridiculous now, that even as a migraneur (isn't that a fun word! My chiropractor friend taught me it, their field apparently has an actual designation for us, great word, much easier than migraine sufferers or whatever) I didn't know predrome or postdrome even existed. Or auras! Can't believe I was years into getting them and was still describing them to everyone as "you know that thing that follows your vision when you look at a light too long and then look away and it's still there? It's like that but blah blah blah". And then only just my current partner asked what they look like so I looked up pictures and learned that we don't all experience auras the same way! So freaking weird! Very happy to have found your channel and see another person in the confused brain fog states too.

I’ve found that my most “effective” patch says “STOP ignore me I’m working” because it tells people exactly what TO do, not what not to do! While we all know what distracting a dog means, it appears that the general public does not lol. People know what “ignore” means so I think it helps!

Thank you! Onset... it's hard to say. Every migraine is different. Depends on my activity. To be honest, during this recording the migraine was very mild, so that's why it came off as easy to handle. I waited for the peak to be over because I had to talk a lot. My other videos show worse ones, where I'm less functional, or relatively nonfunctional. There's a range. Hope that helps =)

What I remember is somewhere around $50-$60 for the fleece-lined harness + CB handle, and an additional $20-$30 for the cape, for the design I got. The base price was lower, but add-ons like the zippers and multi-color/custom embroidery increased the cost.

What brand of shoes do you use, do they stay on well, & also do they make his feet sweat?

The link to his exact shoes are in the description of this video. We haven't had any problems with blisters or sweating.

The brain fog is incredibly frustrating. Sometimes it's like.... can we make a trade? Can I have more pain in exchange for being able to dress myself without a lot of thought? (but only sometimes...)

I have occasional migraines. No where near bad enough or frequent enough to be a disability; but I do have all the symptoms she is marking here.

Hey, if you don’t mind me asking. What training methods do you use? I mostly see service dog handler‘s using balance training. Usually when they do service dog gear videos. I see prong collars and things like that.

    • @MommingwithMigraine
      @MommingwithMigraine  4 года назад +2

Bud was trained positively because when he was younger I wasn't versed in those kinds of tools, so now he works with just a flat collar and praise. I do believe in balanced training though, and I am always continuing my training education, so as of a month-ish ago he is finally ecollar trained (not shock), but we only use it occasionally on off-duty walks. He seems to love it. We've never used a prong.

I never realized taking photos of strangers dogs was a thing until I started raising Guide Dog puppies
It seems like every time I take my puppies in public for public access training people ask if they can take photos of them...... its weird.

The people “assuming” they aren’t a service dog because they don’t always wear specific gear is one of the most annoying things sometimes. I don’t always want to “advertise” my situation with a ton of gear. If someone asks I am more than happy to explain, but sometimes I just want to feel like a reg person.

I noticed again how Migraine Jen speaks differently from Not-Migraine Jen. She's almost a different person - less assertive, more tentative, less vocal fry, younger-sounding. Some traits carry over, though.
She's stubborn. She sets goals and isn't easily budged from following through. She still displays affection for Buddy. She copes as well as she can. Migraine Jen is an admirable person, I think.
You've shown us that the severity of Migraine Jen's brain fog varies considerably. Today's episode was milder than some of the others you've shown us. She's functional.
I'm starting to be curious about something, so I'll ask and hope for an answer. When you are suffering from a migraine attack phase, can you still get fainting episodes? Or do those episodes only occur at other times?
It strikes me that if being in a migraine attack phase rules out fainting episodes, it would be hard to conclude that the two phenomena are unrelated. They might be symptoms of one underlying medical condition.

This is migraine Jen. Hello, thank you for the compliments. I think my blood pressure drops more easily during migraine (hypotension), and I get tachycardia (pots) more outside of migraine. Same phenotype different genotype. There is overlap. But I really don't remember. I don't know if migraine Jen should be commenting haha 😅

I hate when people fake disabilities. It's something that some people really struggle with, so if someone is faking it to get the "benefits" then it is so unfair to the people who also have to face the downsides. I feel like you should have to get service dog gear from special places, so that it is not as easy to fake stuff. And the most annoying thing: I feel like the fakers get sympathy, while the people who arent faking a disability (especially an invisible one) are seen as faking. I am thankful to not have a disability, however I have great respect (not pity because that seems condescending) for those who are affected every single day.

I prefer professional stuff too, especially being that my SD is a chihuahua so gets called fake a lot, I don't want to add fuel to the fire lol
I totally respect handlers wanting to customise their gear, that's fair enough, but PERSONALLY I don't approve of things like 'service demon/bear/ghost etc'
People say to me 'you're not required to label your sd at all and if people can't tell its a dog that's in them' but it does just increase the publics belief of owner trained dogs being unprofessional or even straight up fakes, like surely handlers should want the public to realise owner trained dogs can be just as professional as an programme dog?
It's not a bear, it's not a ghost, so people are guna think 'that parts clearly BS, so why should I believe the 'service' part.
It's just not portraying a good image :(
If people want to add Disney characters or something fair enough, wouldn't do it myself but as people have said 'why not? People put stickers on their crutches' so yeh, that's fair enough, but if you're guna lqbel your dog to begin with I think it should be labelled correctly, rather than adding more confusion for the general public :/
I'm not hating on anyone, just my opinion, I think it's should either be accurate labelling or none at all

    She’s learning to bring medication
    Distract self harm behavior
    Alert before fainting
    Alert to heavy breathing
    Alert to hands shaking
    Alerts to legs shaking
She also does light presssure theraphy
    Alerts me to sit down
One time I was out running errands with my medical alert and phyatric service dog and she was doing light pressure theraphy and this dog was pulling and barking and at my service dog and she just ignored the dog I said esa dogs don’t have public access rights
And I gave her ada law cards so she would know and I could educate her on service anmail laws she said it’s okay it dosent matter what my dogs vest is I gave her the cards and I’m thinking your lucky the I dident sue that lady for distracting my service dog while having a minor medical episode
