One frustrating thing that I discovered is that the S endorsement for school bus is apparently only possible once you have an employer to initiate the background check. There are a lot of districts hiring, but they are all looking for people who already have their B+PS
Why would any one want there kids with anyone with out a back ground check. Most all people working with children has a background cheak going back to the 6th grade. Nationwide.
A lot of school districts can't afford to have a trainer,tester on payroll. $700.00 plus to train and then low pay so they don't stick around. But a cheep way to get experience and license at the childrens risk. They should be paid the best to get the best.
Does the different weight restrictions between the licenses apply nation wide or are these just NJ's standards?

I have a class b. I’m thinking about doing hotshot. I know I can drive under 26000 non cdl. I was told to get a 2500 truck. Would my cdl b let me get a bigger truck say 3500/F350 and I be okay as long as I follow the same rule as a non cdl driver with the trailer. Or would the heavier truck take away from the amount of weight I can hall on the trailer do to my total weight?

Basically I don’t want to retest. I’d like to get a 3500/truck and be able to haul on a trailer what I could with a 2500 truck? Is this possible with a class b cdl?

What you said at the end is pretty much the answer. However much the truck weighs subtract that from 26000
The question is. Does it take the same amount of effort, work, time and money as a Class A? If it does, then I might as well get a class A license.

If I'm understand this correctly. I can drive a dump truck loaded 16 tons pulling a trailer under 10000 pounds loaded with a class b ? I've heard this scenario both ways. Even asked at the weight station and was told they get back to me which they didn't. Not that it would be likely to fined that small of a trailer being cost effective, or even if one existed.
So does that mean with my cdl B, I can drive a tractor trailer that has no trailer ?

If your trailer is a fifthwheel set up yes you need a cdl regardless if it's 26001 pounds

Hello. For the class A- you are required to pass General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination. For the class B courses in our school the tests are- General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Passenger.

What do I need for a 5th wheel camper with a GVWR of 16500, being pulled by a Ram 3500 with a GVWR of 11500?
it would be a class A but if your just pulling an RV and your not making any money with it then you dont need a CDL
So if i am asked to pull a large trailer [portable grand stand] with a small 5000 pound pickup like we do, we need a class a? The grand stand is well over 10,000 pounds and requires at least a one ton according to the sticker posted. Yes it has brakes, and over 60 feet in length.

You would need the passenger endorsement if you're looking to drive a bus.

Can you go straight for class A or do you first need to get class B? Here in the netherlands you first need to get class B( here it's called C license) and then you can go for class A ( here CE) the E stands for trailer.

Hello, I’m based in FL and I want to get my class B driver license for being able to drive a dump truck and deliver loads of dirt to job sites.
I’m researching what I need to do and Class B seems to fit what I need. I know I will also need to get a truck that’s able to pull a lot of weight. So I’m thinking two options here.
Get a truck with a dump truck trailer or a dump truck.
Not sure which one to go for though.
And then I have to figure out if I want a new truck and make payments on it without worrying about too much maintenance or a used truck.
What are your recommendations?

No. The b will be easier. Backing a semi with a trailer isn't that easy.

It's not a combination vehicle without the trailer, so you should be good with a Class B.

I work for UPS. I’m a part time package handler. My long term goal is to become a Tuesday through Saturday swing package car driver for at least a year, spend the next year as a Monday through Friday regular package car driver, and then go from the package car to the 26 foot box truck. So because UPS drivers are the highest paid drivers in the trucking industry, I’ll be driving a box truck with a class b CDL license while making a good amount of money 💰💵💸🤑. And yes, I’ll be home every night with my family and friends!

Know a guy whose a garbage man in CA. Works 16+hr days and and gets close to 5k every 2weeks. That's what I'll shoot for- class b. Just need to start studying for the permet test.

In NYS, if the trailer either is.... more than 10,000 OR... legally can be more than 10,000. It'a class A. Dont get caught with an over-loaded GVW 9000 Lb equipment trailer and only a B.
Same thing with an empty GVW 10,000.... that's still an A
