My Daddy was a crew member (engineer and top turret gunner) on a B-17 stationed out of Podington. He was with the 92nd Bomb Group, the 325th Squadron. He always wondered why he came back home when other airmen he knew didn’t. He passed away in 2015 after a full and happy life.

I'm happy to hear your dad enjoyed a peaceful, happy, long life after his service. My country did not participate in WWII, but we supplied lots of oil to the allied war effort. As a WWII enthusiast, I've always been fascinated by the engineering of the machines your dad flew in, and the outstanding courage of the men who operated them. May he rest in peace, watch and take care of you and your family from above.

Your Daddy was one of the many US airman who were so incredibly brave flying those daytime bombing raids from the UK. My lovely Dad was a flight engineer in the RAF and on a training flight flew into a US base due to engine failure. He witnessed a B-17 flight coming home from a raid and said it was the saddest and bravest event he had ever seen in his life. He survived the war only because those two bombs were dropped on Japan as he was about to be flown out to India and tow Horsa gliders into Japan.

My dad Staff Sargent Edward Neese was a tail gunner in the 42nd at Podington in 1944. Ships name was Lady Kathern. Groups name was Fames Favorite Few. He always loved airplanes, hated war. Would fly with me many times. Dad passed away two years ago.

My Uncle Lt. John W. Schearer was there flew a B-17G out of Podington. He had some of his 8mm films which someone copied. Wish you could see them. He passed away last January, at the age of 101.

These films should be run through the new technology that is available to restore them to perfection. They are irreplaceable.

Linda, I almost think that my uncle was your Dad’s pilot, I’m going to listen to his video and see if he speaks of him.
