From the very first words, the warmth, tone, passion and sweetness that Angelina manages to instill in this mythical song are truly incredible, you just wish the song was much longer. Her phrasing, backed by her wonderful use of breath and her peculiar jazz tone, always fascinates me and gives me chills every time, I love this absolutely amazing, so personal rewrite of this iconic song, with so many Elvis tribute details. Now it's a different song, but it's also the same, it still has that harmony, but somehow (in a way only Angelina can process) it's even more emotional, it's slower, but it's so close to your soul flow that kidnaps you. 💛🧡❤

The baby and very little girl are Angelina's cousins - the preteen girl is Angelina's sister Juliette and the Piano Player is Rob Christie Director of the Republic Records Los Angeles Studio which is the record label that Angelina has been signed with since she was 14 years old.

James you’re a lovely guy..I enjoy your company 🙏 This song is special even by Angelina’s own standards..this particular voice is my favourite of all those voices in her arsenal..so much symbolism too..the guitar, the black jump suit, the red suit worn by pianist Rob Christie all harking back to Elvis’s comeback tour ‘68 I believe..she’s dusting off and rejuvenating old classic after old classic! She’s a joy to behold 🙏

The song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

I've heard her sing this song countless times and for some odd reason it hit me differently this time. Taking in consideration her music today, the 3 girls of different ages, the tone in her voice and sincerity in which she sings it, the lyrics took a whole new meaning and for me it's about the music from back in the days and how it used to be about telling a story, love, affection, closeness, intimacy, fellowship, friendship, and close feelings. Angelina is bringing all that back front and center because it's important to her and she wants us to know that it could be for us too. " Don't let a good thing die you know I'll never lie to you ".
I was watching your face and there's no doubt she touched your heart like she got mine 😍! Personally I think that's the best reaction. There are many songs she covered where just that warm chocolate voice grabs you instantly; Born to Die (Lana Del Rey) and When you Believe (Whitney Houston & Mariah Carey). There's a ton more out there so your journey has just begun. At this point in time she's put out an EP (6 new songs she co-wrote) in preparation for an album of new material to be released later this year. The songs on that EP are fire! Yes it's a 'cover', but only in the loosest sense, the whole thing is just jaw dropping. U may have noticed exec prod was Mery Zamani, that's Angie's Grandma. The whole production is so beautiful, no one does anything like this, not even close❤
